Evan was resting against the mattress of his bed, absentmindedly twirling a drum stick in his fingers. He and June had been hanging out more and more over the past few months. It was...nice. To have a friend. To have someone other than his half-siblings. They were great, sure, but they were Ares' kids. Always had to be the best. Always had to be the strongest. It got chaotic.
A few of his siblings littered around the room, on their beds or in the cabin's center. thankfully evans bunk was in the corner, so they got more privacy than most.
June knew he wasn't really supposed to be in any other cabin other then his own, but he had been for weeks now and none of the other Ares kids seemed to care. June sat next to Evan on his bed, closesed to the wall. June fidgeted with his necklace as he watched Evan absently twirl his drumstick. Today, June was abnormally chatty. He talked about his day and all of the eaphrodite kid's drama. There was a lot of Adore Kid drama, and it was mainly about crushes and breakups. Today, he went on about how he had to cover up for his sister when she snuck out with some Apollo boy. "It was crazy! Like, actually, I had to make up an entire story to explain why she wasn't in bed the next morning. She wanted to keep it a secret because my other sister, Mckenzie, she also likes this guy. Insane!." He sighed, his arm brushing against Evans.
Evan listened to June ramble about Aphrodite kid drama. He loved hearing June talk. It was soothing. Evan closed his eyes somewhere in the middle of his talking, still awake just....resting. "Wow. You Aphrodite kids are crazy. The drama. What story did you make up to cover for her?" He asked, trying not to blush at their arms brushing. Even though they've been hanging out for months, every time they touched felt like it was the first time. Evan smiled slightly, his new snake bite piercings showing. One of his siblings offered to give him the snakes bites a few days ago, who was he to pass up free piercings. (Okay he did have to do her chores for the week but it was worth it.)
"It's going to sound gross, but I just said she felt extremely sick, so she ran outside to throw up because she didn't know what else to do. She was a bit mad at me but honestly I saved her ass. Anyways...what have you been up to..." His eyes wander from the end of the bunk to Evans's eyes, then to Evans's lips. His gaze lingered on the lip piercings. Something in June's gaze shifted that made it seem much more flirtatious. That's genuinely so hot. he thought to himself; momentaily pausing and exhaling a breath. He seemed to have trailed off.
"You can make up a better cover story. I know you can, Evan said, setting the drumstick down. "Oh you know, doing my sister's chores, doing MY chores on top of that. Nothing special." He could feel June's eyes on him, and he looked sideways, his suspicions were correct. June was looking at him. He smiled wider, snake bites fully out. "What?" he sat up straighter, turning toward June more, fingers brushing June's leg on "accident"
Something about the way he said 'what' made June's heart flutter. On top of the fact that Evan turned towards him more and the way his fingers brushed against his leg? June's face flushed. His eyes widen a little and he leans back by the slightest. "Nothing.." His tone was bretahy and he found himself frantically trying to find a new topic. He wasn't used to being so flustered. "I like your snake bites." He whispered.
Evan smiled wider. "Thanks. My sister did them a few days ago, that's why I had to do her chores." he rolls his eyes. "It's worth it though. I've always wanted snake bites." Evan runs his tongue over them. "Maybe I'll get a tongue piercing next," The cabin door opens and shuts at the other end of the cabin, one of his siblings probably. His attention snapped back to june.
"You're sister is talented. I wouldn't trust a sibling to do any piercings on me personally. you're brave." June managed to recollect himself for the most part by looking away for a few seconds. He glances in the direction of the door before looking back into Evans' eyes. He kept doing that. It was getting obvious by now. June's small smile slowly turned into a more playful one. "Yeah, you should get one." He said softly. "You'd look amazing with a tongue piercing."
"Her mom was a tattoo artist or something like that, so she has all this cool stuff. Piercers, tattoo guns, the whole shebang. Surprisingly she doesn't have many piercings" he shrugged, light footsteps creaking the wooden cabin floor. "Maybe later. These hurt like hell still, it's been like 4 days." he says, "just wonder how a tongue piercing would feel," evan shudders slightly, to exaggerate the point.
"Maybe it's just different giving yourself a tattoo rather than giving someone else one, I dunno." He then laughed at Evan's exaggeration. "Probably weird...imagine eating." He leaned back against the bunk. "I'm sure you'd get used to it though."
"Can you give yourself a tattoo? I think her mom gave them to her, to practice. I don't know" he sighed, "eating with these are hard. I cant chew right, at least not right now. i need to get used to them." he copies Junes posture against the bed. Footsteps grew louder and louder, before a small shadow covered the floor. His sister stood in front of them, arms crossed. For an area kid, she was short. She wasn't always pegged as an Ares kid. Most thought she was Hermes, or unclaimed.
nodded along with what Evan said. "Yeah, you have to stick to light things like yogurt...which isn't that bad. They have good smoothies here." When the girl approached, his gaze shifted. He had seen this girl before but genuinely thought that she was a Hermes kid. So if she was a Hermes kid, why was she in the Ares cabin? In front of Evans's bunk? His gaze seemed much more intense. Maybe it was because he felt faintly annoyed that he wasn't having constant 1 on 1 time with Evan.
"They are really good. I love mango smoothies" Evan said, resisting to lick his lips again. They were suddenly so dry.
Looking up at his sister, then back at june, then back up he asked, "Whats up?"
She looked between Evan and June, narrowing her eyes slightly, "I need to talk to you. Privately" she walked toward a different bunk, waiting.
"Um ill be right back" he got up quickly, walking over to her.
June nods slowly, watching Evan get up and move away with the girl. His eyes narrowed back at hers, and his expression was suddenly oddly jealous. He leaned back and folded his hands and stared intensely at them. He couldn't explain what he felt - or why he did, it was suneccsairy. This wasn't even that bad. He assumed that he just had enough pent-up feelings that right now, smaller feelings were more intense...towards Evan. He scoffed under his breath.
Evan kept glancing back at June. His sister was talking about...something. Honestly he didn't know. All he could focus on is June. However, he was smart enough to nod along and let her talk. Something about....an Athena kid? Some fight or something. He did not care. Everything just sounded like white noise in his brain, everything he saw was blurred, except for June. Who was just....staring at him. He snapped his gaze back to his sister.
June watches Evan intently. His gaze went from Evan to the girl and back again. He decided to look away so he didn't give away how he felt. He shouldn't feel this upset when Evan wasn't doing anything wrong, and it wasn't like the girl was touching him or anything. It didn't really look like they were flirting either, so June js looked down at his rings.
Evan just kept staring at June, who was looking at his hands. His sister punched him in the arm, hard. "OW!" he gasped, grabbing his arm. "That hurt!!" his eyes flared red for a second. "Good, you can hear me. Stop ignoring me," she glared at him again. He grumbled, rubbing his arm, hoping it didn't bruise. "Dont punch me though."
June tried hard. He really did. He tuned Evan out. Then, finally he calmed down and titled his head back, drumming his fingers against his leg impatiently.
Evan just stared at his sister while she talked, apparently he was wrong and it was about Capture the Flag. Wow. She was talking about the upcoming game, some strategy or whatever. Honestly, he did not care. Evan kept rubbing his arm to soothe the pain and have something to do other than staring at June every 5 seconds.
(Ikr? My creativity knows no bounds. Deadass snrorted in class when Elz responded im dead.)
Evan was leaning against a wooden beam, just waiting for his sister to be done talking. "Look are you done? All you're doing is talking about Capture the Flag strategy, which is something I care very little about." he finally said
June's eyes looked back at Evan. The look on June's face practically screamed, 'get back over here, please', since June himself would never say that.
Evan glanced back at June, who was...looking at him. "Look, this has been a waste of my time. Go bug someone else with strategy," he pushed himself off the beam, and walked back toward June, hand still rubbing his punched arm.
