Some other recommendations:
Spark of the Everflame (ya/na)
The Serpent and the Wings of Night (na/a)
Fourth Wing (na)
Crescent City (na/a)
Kingdom of the Wicked (na)
Hope this helps. Happy reading love <3

I've heard good things about both of these and they're on my tbr. Thank you!

The Priory of The Orange Tree - Adult, not gothic but has a Game of Thrones feel to the location/structures, very strong world-building with ancient magic, unexpected romantic connection, and teamwork between foes for a greater purpose
The Book That Wouldn't Burn Trilogy (2 out of 3 currently out) - Adult, immersive world-building, very fascinating magic system, and romance/teamwork between conflicting characters for a greater purpose
The romance in all of these are subplots with no smut

I keep hearing good things about Throne of Glass. I admittedly am a little wary of Maas, but I do believe in second chances. I appreciate you going out of your way to treat me with a whole list of recs! Thank you!

I hope you know that you ate down with this rec. Bonesmith seems absolutely perfect for me and I'm very excited to read it!

Fourth Wing is not for me, but The Invisible Life of Addie Larue is already on my tbr and I'm very excited for it! I hear good things about the Cruel Prince and Powerless so I'll probably be checking those out. Thanks so much!

These are amazing recommendations! Thank you so much for all the detail!

A Fate Inked in Blood by Danielle Jensen (Norse mythology, only one book is out so far)
One Dark Window by Rachel Gillig (unique magic system/duology, gothic and spooky)
A Discovery of Witches by Deborah Harkness (vampires, witches, demons)
Married to Magic series by Elisa Kova (5 standalone with unique magical systems)
The Spellshop by Sarah B. Durst (cozy cottage core romantasy, clean romance but not much plot)
The Winter King by C.L.Wilson (probably closest to ACOTAR)
When the Moon Hathed by Sarah A. Parker (fast paced romantasy with dragon lore)

There are some great recommendations in your list! Thank you very much! I'm especially excited about A Fate Inked in Blood, One Dark Window, and The Spellshop :)

Rivals to lovers can be better than enemies to lovers in my opinion, so its a win for me! Thanks for the recommendation :)

I would love to be book friends with you! You are absolutely free to add me. It would be great to have someone to discuss that book with, especially since you seem to love it so much :D

You might like Chimeras of Estmer. This book definitely has a complex plot, great world-building and a very interesting magic system. There are definitely elements of horror, as there is a villain (his name is Lord Siwald) who sews people together with animals in his castle and then creates a great army from these horrible chimeras.
As for romantic subplots, there are three in this book. And in all three, the girl and the guy become allies, then friends, and finally fall in love. So it's very much in line with your wishes that they should be a great team and that they should fight through the story to victory together.
Also, in one case, the female protagonist falls in love with a reformed villain. Specifically, the servant of the main villain, who turns to the good side and then fights his former boss with his girlfriend.
I'll probably think of other books, but Chimeras of Estmer has become one of my favourites since I read it this summer, and I can't shut up about it. Besides, you might like it too. Sounds like we have very similar tastes in books.

if you haven’t read i highly recommend. it has an enemies to lovers trope (one of my personal favorites) and has no spice. i would say that maybe its slightly more of a romance with a subplot of fantasy but its hard to tell. i recommend either way!!

the cruel prince - holly black
six of crows - leigh bardugo
the invisible life of addie larue - victoria schwab
the serpent and the wings of night - clarissa broadbent
powerless - lauren roberts

Romance is secondary to the plot but it's also written so beautifully. World building is amazing and I loved every single character. It's by far one of the series I feel the strongest bond to and the one I loved to most.
The cruel prince was also amazing.
I heard about Daughter of no world and am planning on reading it soon, but I think it fits the description.
Also The invisible life of Addie LaRue, loved it!
This is long winded, I understand, but this is my first foray into asking a forum for recommendations. Your kindness and help is appreciated. Please understand that not everything I noted has to be met in the same book. These are just themes/concepts that I enjoy and would like to see. If you think you have something that may not precisely fit what my tastes are, but is adjacent to them, I would love to look into it!
Thank you very much!
