In November we will be reading Untouchable by Mulk Raj Anand for our State of the Nation category - who's in?

Mela (melabooks) | 90 comments I want to read it this month.

Pamela (bibliohound) | 149 comments I’m in, will be reading it later in the month

Mela (melabooks) | 90 comments An interesting point of view. Important voice.

Phil (lanark) | 636 comments In case it helps anyone - this book is available for free, without an account (as you can't log in at the moment) from the Digital Archive.

Phil - do you mean Internet Archive (archive.org) cos I've been able to log in for a while now (since their DDOS attack!) and was reading Pippi Longstocking on there only last night!

Me too, I can log in, for the last few days, a week or so.

Phil (lanark) | 636 comments Ah. I hadn't checked for a while and - yes - you're all right and you can now log in again. Shame about all the "borrow unavailable" signs but that's another matter entirely.

Pamela (bibliohound) | 149 comments This was a compelling ‘day in the life’ account. I was rooting for poor Bakha who had such a lot to put up with, hoping he’d just get a break. The descriptions were excellent and brought the small town to life, and I thought the book ended on just the right note.
