_______________
Appearance:

Face Claim: Alyvia Alyn Lind
Description: Marianne has fair skin, hazel eyes, and long, wavy blonde hair that goes past her shoulders. She stands at 4'11" Her clothing styles consists, skirts, dresses, and blouses, usually in neutral or pastel colors. She likes wearing bows and headbands to complete her look. For shoes, she usually wears flats and sandals.
_______________
Personality: Marianne is an introverted girl. She likes keeping to herself and prefers to be alone for the most part. However, she can be quite sociable if she's around the right people and will warm up to them if she trusts them. She can also be mischievous, enjoying playing pranks with her sister Arya and tagging along for the ride. While she doesn't necessarily like the role of being a noble, she can certainly play the part well when she needs to. She's elegant, graceful, and poised, and is mostly quite mature for her age. In many ways, she's the complete opposite of Arya: the calm to Arya's wild and rebellious behavior, the shyness to the outgoing. But she loves her sister and the rest of her family dearly and wouldn't trade them for the world.
_______________
History: Marianne was born to two commoner parents in Voxthain. She doesn't remember much about them, but what she does remember is that being their only child, they adored her and showered her love and affection, spoiling her when they had the chance. When she was five years old, her parents fell ill, passing away a few weeks after. Having no other family to go to, Marianne had to learn how to be resourceful and fend for herself.
A year later, Marianne was adopted by Topaz and Fae Ellington-Wyver, two noblewomen who married to keep their families strong. Now she was suddenly a noble. She had a hard time adjusting to a life of nobility at first, but she slowly got used to it over time. Despite not necessarily liking the role of a noble, Marianne was, and still is, grateful to Taz and Fae for providing her with a better life.
Not long after she was adopted, Taz and Fae adopted another child: Arya, an orphan like she was. Marianne quickly learned that Arya was wild and loved causing mischief. Although they have vastly different personalities for the most part, she grew to love her sister with all of her heart and even joined in on the pranks once in a while and developed a strong bond with her.
Now, Marianne is fifteen and loving life. She is currently enrolled in Cogworks, where she is a student in Homeroom Diamond and mainly focusing on her enchantment magic. She loves the school and enjoys every minute of it.

15⠀⠀ Nonbinary⠀⠀Voxthain⠀⠀⠀ ⠀Noble⠀⠀⠀ Bi-ace ⠀⠀ conjuration/enchantment
Tris is energetic. They cannot sit still for long periods of time, and are often found fidgeting or running through the hallways of the estate or outside. The world at large is an expanse waiting to be discovered, and Tris is eager to find everything the cities--and beyond--have to offer. They hate being cooped up, while exploring and having a natural sense of curiosity is much more their speed.
Reckless is another word to describe them. Tris does not have a very solid head on their shoulders, often getting into scrapes and situations because they don't think before plunging headlong into something that excites them. They love experimenting with magic, and find it really fun to use, and often use it in ways Voxthain dislikes, and ways that get them scolded by extended family members. While they hate regular academics at Cogworks--politics is boring, history was in the past, math sucks, science is iffy--Tris adores their magic classes, but has often been in trouble for using magic in "dangerous" ways the school did not necessarily tell them to. They also ditch class often because they cannot sit through it, and are very disruptive.
Tris is outdoorsy and adores animals, spending their time sitting outside, tromping through the woods, and picking up critters to take home. They have a collection of lizards, snakes, a fox, and a rabbit, as well as some other ones they have found, and names all of them. They're also dramatic for dramatic's sake--Tris was born into a powerful family, and has no interest in politics, but thus ended up spoiled and a bit vain. They're not exactly unkind, and would never harm someone on purpose--and pranks are not their thing, really--but they can be very loud and dramatic when they don't always get something they want. They have a small bead of classism conked into them because of who their family is, but Tris will still speak to commoners without a problem, though they are kind of vain, preening at a mirror to make sure they look alright.
Part of their acting out in class comes from being too young to realize the family name, and because they find subjects boring, but some comes from ADHD. Another part of it comes from Tris wanting some attention by students and professors who see them for who they are--unlike some of the extended Delacroix family.
Their family--Aunt Esmeralda, the late Uncle Oliver--would never approve of Tris's sexuality, nor their gender identity, and would never try to understand, so to them, they are still Beatrice, and it infuriates them so much that they can't stay around the estate and act out just because at Cogworks, they can. They realize the Delacroix name carries weight there, and nobody has quite informed their parents of their behavior. They are relieved they do not see them on a very frequent basis.
This all being said, Tris loves their sister, Mari, very much, and she is one of the only ones Tris trusts. However, even sometimes, Tris worries Mari hates them for being so loud and loving to explore life and for their desires to get outside the sister cities and explore and travel. Tris's desire is also to be an actor. They are a good liar, quick thinker, and participate in drama clubs at Cogworks, always getting tickets to see all the shows they can around Voxthain and Asterath. They take acting classes outside of Cogworks, too, but lie about it to their extended family (ie Esmeralda's branch).
Standing at about 5' 6", Tris is taller for their age than many. They have a longer face, tanned skin often sunburned from being outside, and a more gangly build. They have dark brown-black hair that naturally grows in tight curls, but they often keep it in many braids, often changing the style between longer braids and shorter ones. Tris adores dying their hair, and despite being a Delacroix, they show up to events with blue, pink, or even bright neon shades, depending on how they feel. They have dark brown eyes always filled with a sparkle, full lips, and and a grin.
Tris wears rounder, wire-rimmed glasses, chipped, darker-colored nail polish when they feel like it, and often wears anything androgynous. They despise dresses and skirts, and on the occasions they have to make an appearance as what the rest of the family thinks they are--as Beatrice--they wear sneakers under their dress and bitch the whole time. Darker colors, with the occasional splash of differing shades of blue and green, are Tris's go-to colors.
They also go by Arden sometimes.
Tris was born to Ender and Wyatt Delacroix, with their twin sister, Marianne, as Beatrice Arden Delacroix. Mouthful, right? Well, suffice to say, that did not last long. Tris was always an adventurous child, getting into things they were not supposed to, like the kitchen and their parents' closets, trying on random clothes because they could, or into Uncle Andre's study when they were at the Delacroix's main estate because he had so many books on magic that caught Tris' attention as a child.
But as a whole, they had a very happy childhood. They were close to their sister and raised by loving parents and grandparents who were accepting of their children the way they were, something that was so rare amongst the Voxthain nobility, especially the Delacroixs. Tris was wary of the main branch of their family, and this is still true to this day.
When they were about eight, they realized that something was different about them--they did not identify with being a girl, as they had been raised as until that point. They had never liked their name--Beatrice--both because it was too long and old-fashioned, but also because it was too feminine. Tris realized they were not a girl and not a boy, but nonbinary, which they learned about and identified with after they told their mother and got aid from some friends at Cogworks who helped them find language to resonate with how they felt. This was freeing for Tris, who shortened their name to match how they felt inside, and they were so relieved their sister and parents approved and loved them no matter what.
So Tris began to change the way they dressed, and began to be happier and live more freely as themself. Over the years, they also learned they loved men and women, but Tris never really wants to settle down, and is happy to just live life exploring, acting, and being with their family. They hate the extended branch, though, and in instances where they had to go to galas, they reverted back to pretending to be straight and cis, just for their own safety. They are not close with Aunt Esmeralda or Draven.
Over the years, as they attended Cogworks, Tris was diagnosed with ADHD. They had a problem focusing and sitting still, while also acting out sometimes because they liked to be the center of attention, and liked to preen. After one incident, Tris was directed to the drama club, and they fell in love. They could be different people, be dramatic, and have fun all at once, and their love of acting was born. They have since seen all the plays put on in both cities, learning and eating up the shows, and is a theatre nerd. While they know they are from a popular family, Tris just became vain from this information, and is not the most classist.
They befriended many people their age in drama and in magic classes, but this magic class became a problem: Tris found another love in enchantment and conjuration, but began to use and experiment with the magic and the limits they could push themselves, and in ways Cogworks and Voxthain as a whole did not exactly appreciate. This landed Tris in some trouble, lectured endlessly, but none of it ever got through their head, and some days, they will go outside or lock themselves in a study in their house, and experiment with magic in ways that could get them in trouble with the Council.
They also began to gain insecurity. Tris struggled with school Mari did not. Mari was shy, Tris was loud and a bit vain. They worried their family loved them less, and that their parents and sister were disappointed in them. This has them acting out more despite an effort to behave, but Tris hasn't discussed this with anyone yet. Still, they are so glad their mother supports what they want to do, but they get frustrated at her protective nature. They were always close to Mari, however, but worried she doesn't feel the same deep down.
Tris signed up for self-defense classes when they were twelve, and is the type who would punch someone for talking shit about their sister or family, and has before because they know they are not popular amongst the Delacroixs and nobles necessarily. They love fencing as a spot, and archery as well. When Tris was eight, they adopted a little fox kit they found whose parents had been killed, and named her Rowan. They also have been known to pick up snakes and lizards and is in awe of them.

Twin Sister | Marianne Delacroix | Voxthain Noble | @isabella
Tris loves and trusts Mari and is close to their sister. While they feel less than for their lack of interest in academics (Mari often doing Tris's homework, for which they are grateful and guilty), as well as their overall more raucous demeanor compared to her, they love and trust her and very much would try and hurt someone if they came after their sister. They worry Mari secretly judges them for their goals an desires in life, but wants acceptance.
Mother | Ender Delacroix | Voxthain Noble | @rory
Tris trusts their mother more than most people. Ender does not mind that Tris is queer and nonbinary, and they are so relieved that even as a Delacroix, she doesn't mind, and readily accepts them for who they are and know themself to be. Tris adores it when their mother teaches them something new, so long as its not something they have to sit still for long periods of time to learn, or something like--snore--politics. But they love being around her, but still inside feels like a failure for being so loud and unable to focus sometimes. Still, they know she accepts that they want to act one day, and explore Lux once the shadowfog is gone, and Tris adores her, despite being difficult as a student/child at times. As Ender can be overprotective, this grates on Tris's nerves, and one point of contention is that butting against Tris's desire to go running through the cities and outside on their own and explore everything they can. They often butt heads, and Tris insists that they're fine on their own, despite loving Ender very much.
Father | Wyatt Delacroix | Voxthain Noble | @user
TBD
Cousin | Elliot Delacroix | Militia Investigator |@bella
Elliot had always been their favorite cousin when they were at larger family events, as he always had an air of fun to him, of not caring what others thought, and they admired that about him. When Elliot was disowned, Tris was bitter, but it just confirmed to them what a mess that side of the family was, and to avoid Aunt Esmeralda at all costs.
Cousin | Draven Delacroix | Voxthain Noble | @bella
Tris does not like Draven and has steered clear of him as much as they were always able to do. He always seemed cold and standoffish to them, and they worried he would never understand them or judge them for who they were. Draven left Tris feeling a little uneasy most of the time.![]()

FILE OVERVIEW
Matthias Seavey: the second-born son of the newspaper mogul [name] Seavey. M. Seavey follows in the family line of investigative journalists and has been spotted trespassing on crime scenes on numerous occasions. Articles written by M. Seavey are less likely to hold the level of classism, bias, and outright lies of his father's work. For unclassified cases, it is deemed safe to respond to M. Seavey for interview questions, but follow your training. Like the rest of his family, M. Seavey will twist your words and actions to suit his own purposes.
[Note to foot soldiers: a photo of M. Seavey can be found tacked to the bulletin for reference. Remain vigilant for his presence while guarding active crime scenes.]
M. Seavey has a known addiction to potions. If spotted, remain vigilant of slurred speech, impaired coordination, and agitation. You are under orders to bring him to lockup if he appears to be a danger to himself or others. M. Seavey has a history of risk-taking behavior when under the influence of potions.
Do not, under any circumstances, treat M. Seavey as hostile. You are at no risk when dealing with him. The boy is pushy and unaware of his privilege, but he is respectful and polite if treated well. He is not a threat. If M. Seavey is found in need of medical care in lockup again, the arresting solder will be written up for disciplinary action.INCIDENT REPORTS
Incident: B&E
Action: Responded to scene, no further Militia involvement necessary
Responded to call about a young boy breaking into the Calico Estate. M. Seavey, age 9, found in Eadric Calico's office attempting to open a filing cabinet. The boy claimed to be acting on a dare from a member of the household, stated he had permission to enter the estate. E. Calico wished to press charges, but due to the age of the child and lack of real crime, the Militia will not be pursuing further action.
Incident: Assault
Action: Responded to the scene, requested Medical. No further Militia involvement necessary
Responded to a report of screaming coming from the Seavey Newspaper Offices. Lord Seavey was found in a state of agitation with his son, M. Seavey (age 11), who was crying and had a bloodied nose. Medical was called (find the full medical report attached) and found no broken bones. Lord Seavey claimed that the boy tripped and fell and M. Seavey corroborated, but the responding officer (S. Altan) is not convinced this is the case. Put a note on the file that Lord Seavey may be using force to discipline his children.
Incident: Interfering with Militia Investigation
Action: Verbally reprimanded M. Seavey
M. Seavey (age 12) was found sneaking onto an active murder investigation site. He was promptly removed and sent home.
Incident: Interfering with Militia Investigation
Action: Verbally reprimanded M. Seavey, correspondence sent to Lady Seavey
M. Seavey (age 12) was found sneaking onto the same active murder investigation site a day later. He was promptly removed and sent home, this time with a note to Lady Seavey. Further action will be taken should this behavior continue.
Incident: Interfering with Militia Investigation
Action: Verbally reprimanded M. Seavey, confiscated notes, disciplinary action for leading Investigator
M. Seavey (age 14) approached Commander K. Hayden in her office with a notebook of notes, physical evidence, and photos from the ongoing string of burglaries. The notes were impressively thorough and accurate, more so than the notes from the lead investigator. M. Seavey commented on the negligence of the investigator and brought forward new clues. The notes were confiscated and M. Seavey was sent home with a stern warning to stop interfering with ongoing investigations. The leading investigator on the case has been suspended and their work will be reviewed.
[Note: M. Seavey has numerous more incidents involving Militia Interference. Notable incidents will be recounted below, but know that there are many, many others.]
Incident: B&E
Action: M. Seavey was brought to the Militia for further conversation and assigned 10 hours of community service
Responded to report of suspicious activity near Cogworks around 2200 hours. M. Seavey (age 15) was found jimmying open a window to the staff lounge and was apprehended. Claimed that he was writing an article about evidence of fraud in Cogworks staff. As punishment, M. Seavey was assigned 10 hours of community service cleaning the streets of lower Voxthain. Lord Seavey attempted to have the community service removed from the record, to which the Militia refused.
Incident: Public Intoxication
Action: M. Seavey was brought to holding to sober up, potions were confiscated
Responded to report of a teen boy wandering the streets of upper Voxthain yelling obscenities. M. Seavey (age 16) was detained, clearly under the influence of potions, and was sent to holding to sober up in peace. Lady Seavey was contacted to collect him and his potions and alcohol were confiscated (Item #F47WB7).
Incident: Potions Deal Bust
Action: Potions confiscated, dealer sent back to Asterath, buyer verbally reprimanded
Patrolling foot soldier stopped a potions deal in progress in the alleys near the Asterath stairs. The potions were confiscated and locked up in Evidence (Item #2D34LB). Asterath Council authorities were contacted to claim the Asterathean dealer, and the Voxthain buyer, M. Seavey (age 16), was sent to Militia holding. Lady Seavey was contacted to collect him and was given information on managing addiction.
Incident: Public Intoxication
Action: M. Seavey was brought to holding to sober up, requested Medical
Patrolling foot soldier brought a heavily intoxicated M. Seavey (age 16) to Militia holding to sober up. While in holding, his condition worsened to the point of needing Medical. Medical tests of what he consumed were inconclusive. Lady Seavey was contacted to collect him, Commander K. Hayden personally had a word with her about M. Seavey's concerning potions usage.
[Note: M. Seavey's potions use and public intoxication has increased in recent years, but not as much as his investigation interference. Neither will be mentioned unless the event is particularly notable.]
Incident: B&E
Action: M. Seavey brought to lockup, released on bail
Responded to report of clattering around home that experienced recent homicide, found M. Seavey (age 18) inside taking photos of the crime scene and the broken window he had used to force entry into the home. M. Seavey was willing detained and brought to holding, where he was released on bail paid by the Seavey Newspaper. The crime scene photos were published the next day in an article written by M. Seavey.
Incident: Assault
Action: Locked up assailant for this assault and numerous petty thefts, requested Medical for M. Seavey
Responded to reports of a fight in lower Voxthain, found the assailant kicking a nearly unconscious M. Seavey (age 18). The assailant was the suspect involved in the recent string of petty thefts, and was unharmed. M. Seavey was sent to Springhaven Hospital for medical attention. Suspect was apprehended and received three years in prison.
Incident: Assault
Action: Foot soldier suspended, requested Medical
Investigator I. Altan interceded in a fight between foot soldier J. Bowd and M. Seavey (age 20). J. Bowd claimed that M. Seavey provoked him into fighting, but M. Seavey has no history of violence and shows no evidence of fighting back. I. Altan suggested that M. Seavey was being "annoying and invasive, like he always is" and J. Bowd reacted with anger and violence. Medical was called and M. Seavey was sent home with a concussion but no major injuries. J. Bowd is suspended until further notice.MAGICAL CLASSIFICATION

༉‧₊˚. history.
time is both your friend and your enemy, and i know that more than anyone else.
lysa was born the third daughter of the leclaire household and to an ailing mother. she was practically raised by her sister elara and grew up bubbly and laughing, as children typically were. she lived the first few years of her life completely normally like nothing was wrong - because nothing was wrong. until lysa hit the age of five, and the family both gained a new life - lyanna, and lost another - her mother. lysa had never been close to her mother, but her second mother elara had been and elara changed a lot. she stuck to lysa as if lysa was the only person she had left, and lysa had been afraid to let her down.
eventually, elara found happiness with eadric calico when lysa was eleven, but shortly after the wedding, the leclaire house went up in flames. apparently elissa had trashed her room and more than what she had originally intended went up in flames - including lysa. to this day, she can still vividly remember the feeling of the flames on her skin, the choking sensation when she had nothing to breathe but smoke. she had struggled to call for help, and the rescuers managed to get her out just in time for her to still be alive. she still has nightmares from this and refuses to be close to fire.
though her life came at a cost.
lysa woke up a few days later in the thorne hospital, and immediately something was amiss. when she opened her eyes to look at her surroundings, there were pieces of information hovering over the eyes. elara calico, née leclaire. twenty-three. lysa struggled to understand what had happened, until her nurse asked her ‘how are you feeling?’ to which lysa replied with ‘fine,’ which was a lie, and a little orange light flashed in the corner of her eye. a lie detector. that when she realised what had happened.
she had a new hand, a new foot, half a new brain and heart and a new lysa in general. gone were any giggles, any light-hearted laughter. she had nearly died, and that awoke something in lysa. at cogworks, she was bullied for her metallic parts, but her perfectly logical computer-brain beat them every time in everything but physicality, and lysa didn’t let that get to her. she just deferred any bullies to the computer side of her brain and let the computer deal with them. lysa was determined to make a difference the way her nurse had made a difference for her. she wanted to save people, and contribute to society. she had been allowed to live on for a reason - to do the same thing for others. living on borrowed time was one way to put it. there was nothing wrong with being a cyborg - it was simply another way of living - so she learnt to embrace her uniqueness and wield it as her strength, because then no one could use it against her as a weakness. the only weaknesses are the ones you allow to weaken yourself.
she focused on transmutation at school for healing properties and conjugation and mechanics so she could fix herself and others like her if anything went wrong. after graduation - which her computer brain aced - lysa went to apply to become a militia medic immediately. she only got an apprenticeship at the beginning, but lysa persisted, and being cyborg, she caught on incredibly quickly to her job. within a couple of months, she was promoted to a full, proper medic, and her practices were efficient and effective - leading to her becoming very popular within the militia and also outside. now, lysa also volunteers at the thorne hospital when she has free time and loves her job.
when lysa was twenty-three, the next tragedy in her life struck, one named ‘lyanna leclaire’. in her devastation, she was quick to blame lorelei delacroix, anna’s only friend, even though the logical part of her mind told her otherwise. lysa cared not, but soon came to see the truth and apologised to the girl, and they mourned lyanna together, becoming good friends along the way.
now at thirty-two, lysa just continues to live her life, saving others and not being ashamed of who she is. she is a renowned nurse and medic across voxthain, and has just started to extend her services to asterath and in secret, the fighting ring fighters.

arya ellington-wyver. an innocent, lovely little child. or so everyone thinks. you would have thought, an adopted daughter of fae and topaz ellington-wyver would be the perfect lady. but no. arya is wild and adventurous, and has developed a keen interest in swordplay and fighting. she often acts rashly and without thinking, but does she care? no. she is a lovely and kind child, but does not fit in with what society expects of her at all. in the place of a perfect child who sits upright all the time and smiles to the point where her cheeks hurt, there is a wild spirit running around the training grounds with a sword in her hand, a bow in the other and a quiver strapped to her back. arya loves to play rebel, and she really does not care about what others think of her and her ‘weird’ hobbies.

all arya could remember about her birth parents were that they were poor, and couldn’t afford to keep her. but they had loved her, she knew this. suddenly, one day the house caught on fire and killed her parents. arya escaped - but barely, and on her shoulder, there is a burn mark that vaguely resembles a paw print, and it has been there to this day. therefore, without anything except a desire to live, arya took to the streets, but not for long. soon, she ran right into topaz and fae ellington-wyver, and they were surprised at this four year old fending for herself on the streets successfully. before she knew it, arya was part of the ellington-wyver family.
little did she know that her birth mother had actually been elissa leclaire, head of house leclaire. she had never played a part in bringing up arya, instead giving her away to the streets for some random commoners to pick her up - which they did, only it was their house that went up in flames. to this day, arya remains blissfully unaware of her ties to house leclaire and more nobility, and elissa remains unaware as to who arya is.
she soon forgot about heradoptivebirth parents and life on the streets as she adjusted to her new life as the daughter of two very noble and honourable women. but, arya soon found that the life of a lady didn’t suit her. ‘that’s not me’, she would often say. she refused to do what was expected of her, but surprisingly her parents supported her, and she loved them for it. when arya was eight, she was wandering the woods with her sword, needle, and ran into a wolf pup. it was all alone and bore a scar on its coat of fur, and it wasn’t afraid of arya’s sword. then, all of a sudden, arya saw herself in the wolf and took pity on it. they had both been hurt and abandoned at a young age and had to fend for themselves, and both were unafraid of anything. instead of pointing needle at the wolf, arya scooped it up and headed home with it.
she had no idea what taz and fae were going to say, but she was still astonished when they let her keep the wolf. her uncle lucien was less enthusiastic about the idea, and often avoided the wolf as much as possible. nymeria - arya’s wolf - followed her everywhere, and even slept with arya. she was very loyal to arya and defended her whenever she could, even at cogworks. for arya, she valued nymeria’s life above her own, and as nymeria would defend arya with her life, arya would defend nymeria with hers. she had saved nymeria, and nymeria meant everything to her. it meant that she had done something worthy and saved a life.
arya is a student of cogworks and her homeroom is amethyst. she loves cogworks and especially the fighting lessons, but she doesn’t really have very many friends. a true lone wolf at heart, like nymeria. and she didn’t particularly want that many friends anyway. as long as she had nymeria, arya was happy.

Ranami is intelligent. She is observant and focused, driven at academics, and has a knack for science, tinkering, and history. Her brain is analytical, and Ranami wants to venture to the best research jobs she can after Cogworks, or work at the museum as a archivist or researcher. She thrives in her academic classes, and isn't afraid to share her knowledge and intelligence and offer input when it's needed. Ranami is also someone who can get so caught up in her head that she's also very reclusive, but she's not mean and has no ego whatsoever. She just gets very stuck on problem solving and puzzles and such and her work, and will lock herself away and start muttering as she works through things.
Thus, she's kind of socially awkward, and isn't the best when it comes to meeting other people. That, and because she grew up partially in an orphanage. She never really knows what to say and isn't self-aware in some instances. She's a tad disorganized, and often ends up neglecting her health when she's working on something. Ranami also loves hands-on projects and learning from the past or her experiments and inventions.
She's also very kind, despite her social ineptitude. Rani is the type to have rumpled dresses or pants, and tries to make conversation, but isn't great at it. She's bullied a little, but largely ignores it, but hates being utterly alone. Still, with her group of friends she's comfortable with, she is close and can make funny jokes, smiling with them. She's a bit of a shy tomboy in a sense. Despite being a noble, she knows it is not in her blood and does not have a sense of classism like so many others.
While she doesn't have that strong of a temper, what really does make what small temper she can have fester is when someone insults her family or intelligence, or tells her she's unable to work on science and inventions, or historical research, because she's young. It makes her very angry, and Ranami will sometimes tell someone off when this happens. This is to say, she does tend to want to give people second chances if she knows how remorseful they are, and given her powers, she does know.
She's quieter, and feels a lot, and while she's decent at not breaking down crying, she will tear up and take criticism to heart. That being said, she's also prideful, and will stand her ground while being lectured, even with tears in her eyes, and she knows her worth and value, even if she is sensitive. Ranami is much better socially around like-minded students and people and chats professionally better than she does fun stuff, even though she has nothing against small talk. She's a little clumsy and is the type to have grease or ink stains from history papers staining her clothes without realizing it. Or to accidentally throw on mismatched socks.
She's not an open book. She keeps to herself and doesn't offer personal information excessively because she doesn't trust people and doesn't like the idea of random people knowing her, thanks to the orphanage. She is generally kind, but sometimes has nightmares and a small darker side that doesn't come from malice, but fear: she steals small food items from people and stores, worried on occasion that she will not be allowed to eat. Her habit is breaking the older she gets and realizes what love and a family are, and she sees a therapist, but it was hard at first.
Ranami has brown eyes and dark, black-brown hair. It's wavy-curly, and she has darker tanned/olive skin. She stands on the taller side, about 5' 7", but is very thin and a bit bony/scrawny, with delicate muscle features, and she has some freckles on her cheeks and nose.
She prefers looser pants, and doesn't like dressing super femininely, or richly. Ranami is often hard at work, and thsu wears things that can easily be washed, as she has a penchant for getting grease and ink on her attire.
Ranami was born to a woman in the Night Riders in Asterath who had gotten pregnant after a too-fun night-out on the town. Ranami was raised by her neglectful mother until she was about two years old, when her mother gave her up for adoption, simply because she was too committed to the Riders and to causing chaos to raise a child properly, albeit she did love her.
At the Asterath orphanage, Ranami grew up scared and alone. She struggled with making friends, finding solace instead in Cogworks and her academics, adoring history and inventions, creating little tinkering things to occupy herself at a mere eight years old, and enjoying writing extra papers for fun. She felt out of place, never quite wanted or loved, and so the orphanage did do damage on her--she began to steal when she was hungry, often burying herself in her schoolwork, as it was her only real comfort, as she was socially awkward and tried to make friends, but was just not always the best at it.
When she was ten, however, she was adopted by the two patriarchs of Voxthain's Lucke family, the noble family of historians who owned the museum. Ranami was both thrilled and terrified--she adored that her new dads had a history museum, and she found herself thrilled and excited for the first time--and to have a family.
She had taken herself to Voxthain one day, hearing they had a wonderful museum, and Ranami was amazed by the artifacts in it and the information, eating it up like chocolate. It was there that she was found by the Lucke patriarchs, who ended up taking her in and away from Asterath, a place Ranami had always despised and feared.
Ranami adored her new home--she had a family, parents who loved her and showed that love through family game nights--but she and her new father were always so dedicated to their work they often forgot to take care of themselves, and to this day Ranami is anxious she was only adopted to be of use in the history department. She also struggled so much with trusting her adoptive parents, on believing they would treat her right, and when she was eleven, Ranami began some therapy for the trauma she had endured in her past.
Over the years, she is better about trusting her parents, but adults as a whole are hard. Cogworks remained a constant for her, however, and Ranami buried herself in the schoolwork, adoring the learning and the Tinkers' Guild in Voxthain, writing papers, working at the museum despite being made fun of off and on for loving school as well as who she was. Voxthain's nobility largely scare her, so she stays out of the public politics as much as possible, but she has been keeping track of two people on Council: Jingyi Wei-Xsu, because he's a Tinkerer, and Caledonia Hayden, who was adopted, like her, and cares for people like them in making the world better for kids. But, as she was a noble, she always felt out of place, due to being adopted as well as not interested in following their ways of life.
At Cogworks, Ranami also sped through her classes, proving to be a genius. She graduated early, and was so skilled that they allowed her to become the TA for the history class, which she both is new to next year, and is excited and terrified for. Ranami has heard amazing things about the professor, but she's anxious because that will be a lot of people relying on her.
On her days off and free time, Ranami splits her time between the Tinkerer's Hall and the Lucke Museum, working on conducting her own historical research, working in her father's archives, or inventing and tinkering around with things at her own little workshop in the estate. Deep down, she is very afraid her father doesn't truly love her, and Ranami does still struggle with the occasional theft and bout of major insecurity in herself as a person and her relation to those around her.
She, however, did get very close to her parents' first adopted daughter. While the two could not be more different, Ranami loves her and knows her sister adores her, too. She is one of the only people--along with her best friend, Saffron Voss--who she has absolute certainty in that they love her. Her sister always stood up for her when the need arose, and was always by her side, just as Ranami was there for her when she needed her.

Adoptive Father | Kyo-Hae Lucke | Noble | @rory
Ranami and her father are both very academic and into their respective work. As such, they often forget to take care of themselves. But, as he is focused on his work and more detached as a guardian, sometimes Ranami worries that he doesn't truly love her, and only adopted her because she loves history, and for what he could get out of her instead of because he wanted a kid. They stick mostly to themselves, but Ranami adores the family game nights when they happen, and she does love him, bust wishes he were more proactive as a parent sometimes. She's working through this insecurity of hers, because she knows he cares, but sometimes she worries.
Best friend/partner | Saffron Voss | Asterath Something | @rory
Ranami has known Saffron for awhile now, and they are best friends who love one another deeply in a very platonic sense. They will come to be partners, but not in a romantic way, as they found out that what they feel for one another is not that. Ranami will stand by him, regardless of the fact both of them are not great in social situations, and she loves him wholeheartedly, so happy to having another human who loves her so purely in her life, especially given she is not quite used to being loved.
Adoptive Sister | Mia-Aesira Lucke | tbd | mine--wip
Ranami is very close to her older sister. Mia-Aesira was always the one to defend and protect her when they were in Cogworks, and she admires her sister's more happy-go-lucky attitude and her love of life. However, she often worries that her sister taking things so romantically and cavalierly will end in some trouble. They are extremely close.![]()

A QUIET FLOWER ─────────────────────────────────────────
Anxious and shy, Mari isn't very good with people. She tends to hide behind her trusted people when out in public, letting them take the lead in any conversation. The thought of talking to strangers makes fear roil in Mari's stomach, and when she does have too make conversation, her voice is soft and mousey. When left alone around her twin, Tris and her close friend, Ranami, Mari blooms into an entirely different person. She speaks up, cracking jokes and showering her loved ones in compliments. Even with them, she isn't the biggest presence in the room, but she contributes all the same.
Too gentle for her own good, Mari can be a bit of a pushover. She doesn't speak up for herself, passively letting things happen even if it goes against her wishes. Mari is often cut in lines or left to do the brunt of group projects. She hates how much she lets things happen to her, but she doesn't know how to be loud and proud like Tris. Mari has endless love and respect for her twin and how much they are so unashamedly theirself, wishing she could just be a little more like them.
School comes easily to Mari. She knows the answer to every question posed in class but never has the guts to raise her hand and answer. She studies much more than she needs to, worried for the day when school won't be her one proud skill. She favors math over writing, but she isn't quite sure if she actually likes any one field of study over the other. All of her friends and classmates are starting to figure out who they are and who they want to be, but Mari is stuck, unsure of herself and her interests. Sure, she's studious, but is that because she likes to learn or simply because she's good at it?
Academics are the only thing Mari has going for her. She doesn't have a single athletic bone in her body and would melt into a puddle of sweat and tears before performing any music or acting on a stage. She is neat and organized, keeping her room and workspace tidy without a speck of dust to be seen. More than anything, Mari yearns to know who she is and where she fits into this world.┏

Even though she was born minutes before Tris, Marianne Delacroix has always felt like the younger twin, always lagging behind her braver and bolder sibling. She learned from a young age that she would never belong with the main Delacroix family, too gentle and kind for their politics and might. During one visit early in her childhood, her Aunt Esmeralda took her aside and told her that if she did not get herself together and make herself known, she would never be worthy of the Delacroix name. All of her cousins were so much older and more sure of themselves, scaring her even farther away. Ever since, Mari has dreaded visiting the main estate, avoiding it as much as possible.
The galas held for the nobility were even worse, forcing her into frilly dresses that made her feel ill at ease in her skin, parading her around to be gawked at by nobles she didn't feel like she belonged with. Tris hated the galas more vehemently than even Mari, the twins standing together against the unavoidable revelry. Even if Mari didn't feel comfortable enough to speak out against them, she could always stand behind Tris when they did.
Entering Cogworks was the start of a better time in Mari's life. She was introduced to Ranami and the Lucke family, people she fit in with better than her own extended family. In school, she was able to blossom in ways she never could with the nobility. She showed her worth through her test scores, even going so far as to demand to do Tris' incomplete homework. She didn't have the bravery to put herself out there socially, but she had her group of friends, and her name was always at the top of her class.
As she grew and aged, Mari found that she had a knack for illusion magic. Making herself unseen and unheard was the first thing she learned, more of a defensive measure triggered by her anxiety than anything intentional, but she has more recently been working with the illusion teacher on bigger spells. It's slow going, but she has started to have the strength to spread silence away from her body, filling a room with empty nothing. Her silence is magic in itself, sucking away not only sound but the ability for others to cast magic themselves.
Mari loves her teachers, and after years, she has been able to open up more to Mr. Westlake, the illusion teacher, and Ms. Blaine, the math teacher. They have both been kind and nurturing presences in her life, giving her the space to open up more, figure out who she is. Along with them, Mari would be lost without her twin and parents there to guide and support her. Mari has so much love for her immediate family, and she tried to tell them just how much she loves them.

20⠀⠀⠀Male⠀⠀⠀Voxthain/Asterath⠀⠀⠀Noble⠀⠀⠀Aroace⠀⠀⠀abjuration/evocation
Xavier Amaranth is, at his core, a good person. He's kind, without an ego, and despises aloof people. He knows how much of a mess the cities are, and it breaks him inside. It isn't like he's idealistic, exactly, but Xavier wishes he was, having spent his whole life trying to create ways to keep peace between Asterath and Voxthain, as well as aim for each city and its leaders to appreciate one another. Injustice makes him sick, and politics exhaust him, as Xavier is at his core a family man who likes to stay healthy and fit, going on daily runs with his cousin and swimming and playing music when he can. If he could live a quiet life, he would, but he knows right now he is no place to do that, and Voxthain is a viper's den he has taken the burden on to navigate. Xavier takes one for his family and steps up as the political head, often combating the other nobles to fight them and advocate for better relations between Asterath and Voxthain.
He also harbors a love and appreciation for both cities in their own ways, as his family is from both. Xavier adores the freedom of Asterath, and the way people can actually be themselves, while he loves the fresh air and natural beauty of Voxthain. He's not exactly the most outdoorsy person ever, but will sit out and spend time there with his sister when she's working in her garden.
Xavier is not the most science-and-math oriented person in Cogworks, but he's someone who is, despite hating it with a burning passion, is skilled at politics. He participates because that is the way Voxthain works, petitioning the Council in both cities and navigating the upper crest of Voxthain's society as best he can, taking it so his family won't have to. Injustice in the world makes him sick, and he cannot sit by and allow the bad things to happen--seeing people ignore them, and not helping others, and the class disparity, has him often getting angry, his blood burning. Xavier doesn't often have a temper, but when human beings are mistreated, he gets furious.
He is an organized individual, set on keeping his workspace and life as together as possible, though he's also not afraid to get dirty if the situation calls for it. He is personable, friendly, and kinder in general, as well as does not hold any classist beliefs aside from wishing the nobles were better people and that the Councils in both cities are better, more organized, and more efficient, as well as worked together more and saw one another as people, not opportunities. While his kindness extends to animals, they are not his priority, and Xavier prefers people to animals.
He does not flirt or drink, and has no interest in marriage or children, and isn't particularly good with them unless they're a part of his family. Otherwise, Xavier adores being around his loved ones, and will get very protective over his sisters and cousins, despite being a more serious person usually who does not partake in his cousin's more joking, mischievous nature. Xavier loves using magic more than Voxthain would permit, another reason he adores Asterath, and he was more skilled at magic than he was at academics in school. He does have an affinity for poetry, and writes it in his free time, as well as plays the lute and violin.
Xavier stands taller at 5' 8", while he sports olive skin and a head of thick, curly brown-black hair. He has dark brown eyes, a smaller nose, and a muscular build often hidden behind suits he wears for the sake of keeping the other nobles from completely tearing into his family. He prefers darker colors, but also loves to wear a splash of amaranth at all times, in honor of his name and his family--a bandana, a handkerchief, a watch.
Xavier was born to an Asterath parent and a Voxthain parent. One was the sibling of the Stormvale's current head of house, their uncle, and one was from the bustling city of Asterath. Both cities had always been in the family's blood and history, and so Xavier was always going between them to visit family in both locations, and thus learning about the rich cultures and unique gems each city had to offer.
As he grew, he realized he loved Asterath for it's magical freedom, and the way that no nobles proceeded over everything and stepped on everyone, but he feared the gangs that ruled in their stead. They were deadly, and Xavier's first interaction with injustice was watching someone get nearly murdered in a vicious drug-deal on the streets of the underground city. It scared him, sickened him, and, at only eight he stupidly tried to jump in to help the victim, getting himself beaten up in the process, and rushed to a nearby hospital for a healer. He had been in the Asterath market with his family when he saw this in an alleyway, and ran over.
This incident changed him. While it never made Xavir hate Asterath, he became more aware of the wrongs in the world around him--both there and in Voxthain, where he realized as he got older at noble events that his family was shunned at times and seen as different, always being mocked by some of the more "pureblood noble" families. It angered him, as did the way these families treated citizens in Voxthain who did not share their blood, and it kickstarted how hotheaded he could be, how he always had to speak out, when he saw something happening that was wrong.
It happened at Cogworks and it happened in both cities--Xavier was friendly, and he liked meeting people, speaking to them, but he got fired up fast when something wasn't right. It led him into loathing both Councils as well. They were largely useless, not doing anything to help people. Voxthain's was a mixed bag, and some people, he realized, did good for the city, like Councillor Wei-Xsu, Councillor Hayden, and later, Councillor Daenerys, but he was still furious that some of the others had an agenda only focused on themselves. And Asterath's? They were a disaster, letting gangs run free, and Xavier desperately wished--and still does--that things would change. That the gangs would be eradicated, and that the nobles would be more compassionate and less self-obsessed. Bigotry never sat well with Xavier.
But, he does appreciate other parts of both cities, finding them beautiful and unique, and often spends time in Asterath experimenting lightly with magic he knows Voxthain doesn't appreciate, while he nevertheless sees Voxthain as a prettier city. Both are in his blood, and he loves the people. As a result of all this, though, as much as politics made him ill, Xavier found they were his one strength in school aside from some magic use: he was a skilled politician, and will suck up his horror and disgust at it to lead and command and try and help people and his family work on finding peaceful solutions between the cities.
Xavier wants Voxthain and Asterath to get along, and he wants peace and respect between the two, often petitioning both Councils and trying to skillfully and artfully work with and among both. It's a burden, politics is, and he hates how fake everyone is, how selfish and unkind. But he knows how to work through it, and he works with his uncle sometimes to learn all he can, as Xavier is poised to take head of house one day despite not being utterly thrilled about it.
Growing up, he was very close to his sisters, Catalina and Camila. More to Catalina, but he is a family man who adores his sisters, uncle, and extended family, especially his cousin Antonio. Xavier de-stresses from his work between cities and amid nobles, who he is not fully comfortable with but has perfected the art of pretending to be, with running, swimming, playing the lute and violin, and writing and reading poetry.
He has some friends from school, but his true love and friends are his family members, and Xavier does have some people built up who dislike him thanks to how vocal he can get about injustice, and he has stepped in more times to try and top fights or stop a noble or a gang member from beating up on someone innocent, earning a lot of bruises that he has to get rid of.

Sister | Catalina Taupe Stormvale | Noble | @alpha
Xavier is very close to his older sister, and admires the way she is so in touch with their more traveling-nature routes. Sister | Camila Taupe Stormvale | Noble | @kyleigh
Xavier's younger sister is one he also loves, but he's not as close to her. Nevertheless, he wants to keep her safe at all times, and he would go out of his way to protect her if the need arose. Xavier respects both of his sisters and his cousins, and he loves her.

Aesira is a sunshine child. She's positive and peppy. She's very rowdy, loud, disorganized, not great at multitasking, and can often romanticize things that really are not meant to be romanticized. Despite this, Aesira is also unafraid to speak her mind, and she's a very passionate, determined person, who can be loud and demanding when she wants to be. She doesn't like drinks nor sleeping around, but she's always down for a good challenge--and prank--so long as nobody gets hurt. Aesira is very cocky at times, but likes meeting new people and can often talk someone's ear off. She's a very high-energy, high-adventure type person.
She also works hard in whatever she does, and, as she is in the militia, is skilled at staying up late to do what she needs to do, though mornings can be a tad problematic for her. She hates sitting still and often fidgets a lot. A problem can arise because she romanticizes heroism and fights, longing to be a hero and save everyone. She also romanticizes, well, romance and history.
While the girl is friendly, she also has a short temper if someone insults her or a loved one, and she's unafraid to get in someone's face and tell them off. Mia is very protective of her family. The girl is also a bit too curious for her own good and likes to explore.
Mia is willing to prank and break rules because she’s curious or it’s “funny” or to get even with someone, and she holds a grudge if someone hurts her family.
Her abilities include: magic hacking, some invention things, and her evocation magic. Mia is also good at communications skills, and skilled with a gun and hand-to-hand combat thanks to the militia, but better with her magic. She’s not the best at strategizing, investigating, and leading things, or really following instructions, but she will follow them unless she sees them as pointless, in which case she will question orders. It kind of depends on how she feels.
The girl can be a lot–she’s extraverted, likes to talk to people, and is overall pretty friendly--the sunshine child. If you let her, she’ll chat your ear off. That being said, she also does have a lot of trust, and while Sira's friendly, she always has her ear open for information that may hurt people. Mia loves the outdoors–photography, hiking, and exploring, and she’s one of those people who likes to try thrilling things for the adrenaline rush. She likes conspiracy theories, which probably drives her historian fathers insane, but alas.
Mia is generally impatient and hyper, and likes a good social gathering, but all of that said she can, when working, be very focused and likes working with data and magic, and knows how to buckle down and get work done when she needs to, and she’s very intelligent when it comes to data analysis and hacking transmissions and magic spells and wards, but her cracking jokes and passing notes in class was a complaint of a few Cogworks professors, while some of her militia coworkers leads think at times she takes things too lightly.
Mia has an optimistic outlook on life and likes making friends. Still, one weakness is that Aesira is a bad liar and isn’t always great at secret-keeping. She’s a very curious person, and likes to eat popcorn and snack foods as she works.
But Mia is also caring, and loves her family and family time and being right next to her dads and sister at game nights, and she feels safest with them, even though she does have lots of energy, which hasn’t changed since she was a kid. She knows her father is distracted with his work, but for Mia, she doesn't always mind as much. She knows Ranami does, however.
She’s an optimist, and she can be very sweet around people if she wants to be, and is always willing to lend a newbie in the militia or museum a hand. She will sometimes chatter someone's ear off by accident, and will do so if nobody stops her. If she's going on and on about theories, or her work, or nature or anything, she will lose track of time and sometimes forget she's supposed to be doing something else.
As she can buckle down to her work, Mia, though, can get a little overwhelmed if she has too much to do, and gets stressed easily. While the militia has helped her learn to stay calm in emergency situations, Mia panics sometimes, but she’s doing better, remembering to breathe and know she has skills. She’s an observant person, taught by the militia to always check your surroundings, plus, as a data analyzer and occasional foot soldier and magic hacker, she has to be observant.
She is not great at being vulnerable. Aesira likes to put on a tough-girl look when she's upset. Still, she's not the best when it comes to honesty, but she's working on it. She's not a chronic liar, per say, but doesn't cringe much when it comes to lies, especially around her emotions. When upset, she's quieter, but she'll sit with her sister because her presence makes her feel better for the most part. She values her parents and tries not to lie to them, unless it's emotions, and wants all of them to be honest with her, but with emotions, she always says she's fine even when her quietness is proof she is not.
Aesia has pale skin as well as green eyes. Her hair is long, wavy, and dark brown-black. She has smaller features and faint freckles. The girl is on the shorter side, which she hates, and she always feels like she has to prove she's not some tiny thing in need of protecting. She's like a small ball of bouncing, in-your-face energy sometimes.
Mia-Aesira was born as Aesira to two parents in Mezd Kathir who abandoned her on the streets when she was a baby, as she had been the illegitimate daughter of one of their nobles, so the family had "gotten rid of the evidence". Taken in by a family of the noble's servants, she was renamed as Mia and raised by that family until the nobles found out and tried to kill her, as an innocent child of almost two. Her adoptive family was killed trying to flee with her, and the nobles thought they killed the child as well.
Instead, one of the family members had managed to escape with Mia, and they took her to an orphanage where she would be safer, and to this day Mia only remembers all this in flashes, but she is determined to find out more where she came from and who her birth parents and the people who helped her are. She knows the city she is from, and she knows from the lady who ran the orphanage who dropped her off, but she has not tracked down who her actual parents are yet because, despite being generally confident and loving her dads, she is worried it's a bad story. But she's very curious and may try later.
When she was about four, she was adopted by the Voxthain noble Kyo-Hae Lucke and his husband, who ran the Lucke Museum in Voxthain. They had been in the city for historical and archeological research, and they adopted Mia when they found her wandering the streets skipping ahead of the outing the orphanage lady was taking the kids on. They fell in love with her cheer and happiness, and as they'd been anting to start a bigger family, they adopted her.
Mia knew her birth name was Aesira, but she liked Mia, too, so she took both. She also had some random flashes she would get of her her first few years--the escape, the fear, a sadness she can't place a finger on that had to do with the first adoptive family she had--but it's because of all that she doesn't look too hard into it. She's a cheerful person by nature, as the lady at orphanage knew who she was and treated her with kindness and nurtured her.
Growing up, while Aesira held some insecurities about her birth parents, she adored her adoptive dads. They were kind and good to her, but she ended up never feeling good enough due to her lack of love for studying and focusing on Cogworks when it came to history. Aesira found a love for analyzing documents, data, and using abjuration magic to hack wards, spells, and transmutation magic between two different parties, as well as in some science departments for engineering, just not exactly complex things. She also found an adoration for evocation magic, and so evocation and abjuration became her two magic focuses, namely water and air manipulation for evocation.
Mia-Aesira was pretty popular among a lot of her peers at Cogworks, despite being adopted into a noble family. It earned her some enemies among the more classist nobles like the Seaveys, Calicos, and Delacroixs, but Mia didn't care much. She remained peppy and a ray of sunshine who loved to antagonize people when she could, genuinely funny and friendly, and at Cogworks people could not help but be attracted by her charm and smiles. She became popular fast, but she would often boast about being the daughter of two intelligent and wonderful fathers, and that her sister was a genius.
Aesira became confident, surrounded by friends, but even while she was, she was still most comfortable around her loved ones, her sister and dads, even if they were distracted at times. Family game nights are her favorite, though, and she gets so competitive and loud, but she adores games and adores their company.
Speaking of her sister, she was thirteen when Ranami was adopted, and loved her instantly. She wanted to know all about her new sister, but she also had to be told to give her space. It was hard for the fireball that was Sira, but now, they're very close and love each other a lot, always there when they're having an insecure day, as Mia has some as well, but she hides it easier than Ranami does.
But she also did go through some heartbreak--at Cogworks, at fifteen, one girl she had a crush on ended up hurting her when she kissed her and then admitted later she felt nothing and had wanted to "practice" kissing on her. But she had pretended she liked her and led Mia on, leaving her furious and heartbroken.
She also joined the militia with her skills after Cogworks' graduation at seventeen, and hops around between being a war caster and foot soldier and helping hack magic wards and analyze and crack codes and data. She is afraid of disappointing her history-aligned dads, but that's not her passion.
Mia graduated at seventeen, which was a relief because she was always half-focused in class, passing notes and having fun, and getting notes sent to her fathers in exasperation from teachers. She focused in some classes, but in general was fun-loving. Now, she romanticizes being a hero in the militia and helping people, going on grand adventures. But she also does deeply want to know more of her past, but something like a rare piece of fear is keeping her from looking too far into it yet, albeit sometimes she almost asks her dads.

Mia-Aesira is close to Ranami. She loves her younger sister whole-heartedly and would do anything to keep her safe and happy. 23⠀⠀⠀⠀Female⠀⠀⠀⠀Voxthain⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀Noble⠀⠀⠀⠀Pansexual⠀⠀⠀⠀Transmutation
Avaliyah is, around most people, very shy and anxious, unless she knows and trusts a person. It’s hard for her to get over her shyness, and she’s always had a tendency to hide behind her parents. This said, she’s very caring and has a mind to help others and be there for her loved ones. Despite her shyness and anxiety, when she’s in a good mood and with people she loves, Avaliyah loves to go on excursions.
That said, Vali is also very sensitive and takes things too personally at times. She struggles with a lot of anxiety and OCD, so she has instructive thoughts that have bothered her for years while her anxiety tends to get the best of her at times. It manifests itself in her social contexts and some health anxiety, hence why she takes to healing—so she can face that and know the facts for wounds before her brain jumps to bad conclusions.
As she’s sensitive, though, she has moments when she doesn’t have the guts to always stand up for herself. She can at times, but her social anxiety can be so bad even if she wants to. She’s better standing up for a friend, as Vali cares a lot for her family, than she is in regards to herself.
Avaliyah also doesn’t put up with a lot of garbage. When she has friendships and relationships she wants to last, she tries to be vulnerable, which scares her, but she wants to do it. She's very empathetic and sweet, even to people she is not comfortable around, and can be sensitive. She’s socially anxious and shy, though she wants to meet people but is scared of being judged. So around her family and friends she’s much more talkative, though she does come to life when she’s excited about something and will more eagerly join in conversation. Vali is quite level-headed around crises more and more as she grows and learns more about healing.
Avaliyah stands at 5'8". She has dark brown skin, full lips, and beautiful, soulful brown eyes that often seem to express her emotions before she can get a word out. She's gorgeous, with long, thick dark black hair that she liked to wear in many braids, but that she pulls back when she's fighting or helping in the infirmary. She has some scars from some incidents when she was a little younger, like the one on her left knee from falling as a child on some pavement while racing her brother.
Avaliyah often wears dresses. She feels more feminine and elegant in them, and she also likes to match her makeup to her dress of the day. She will wear dark pinks and burgundies, or light blue, the color of her house, most. often.
Avaliyah was born the youngest of two children in the Voxthain noble family of Thorne, to Nahilia and Terrance. Though, 'noble' was often a stretch, as her family had been under some fire lately. Her mother had run the largest hospital/medical facilities for Voxthain, but she had never had a hands-on approach. Simply, she controlled the medical supplies, built hospitals, recruited students talented in healing magic and such for the buildings. But she fell in love with one of the healers, a common-born man, and married him.
This earned her hate among some of the other noble families, but others did not care at all. So, Vali was born as the second child, the only daughter, about two years younger than her brother, Izeal. She loved her brother at first; Izeal cared about her, and now, she knows he does love her, but as he got older, he began to tease and prank and hurt her, sometimes going too far with his words. Avaliyah was hurt, often crying over his actions, and he's taken a toll on her self-esteem that she hasn't opened up to many people about. But she's hurt by him, seeing him as a bully she largely avoided growing up.
However, she was close to her father. Terrance was a loving, gentle man who helped Vali be the same, and she took an early interest in his line of work--in actually being a healer, a doctor, and helping people. So she began to help him out. She also showed early signs of health anxiety and found that learning to heal and learning the facts was a way for her head not to jump to the worst conclusions when she got hurt.
But when she was seven, her father died in an accident. Vali was devastated, but kept up healing to remember him, because she wanted to help people, and because it was a way to tamp down on her anxiety in that area. She genuinely enjoyed it, and kept it up, even as she gained some hate for being a noble who enjoyed spending time doing something most thought of as "manual labor for common people". It hadn't been like she was looked fondly on in the first place, given her father wasn't a noble, including by her own extended family. She is close enough to Kieran, and loves him, but she has some qualms about what he does an dhow he does it.
When she was eight, Avaliyah went to Cogworks, studying Transmutation--mending, any other magic healing, and fabrication so she could make people prosthetics who needed them. She also learned about non-magic healing skills further, and potions that healed. She was quie, and didn't make a ton of friends, though she had a few. But it was hard because of Avaliyah's social anxiety, which got worse after her father's death. She also took up playing instruments as a way to soothe herself afterwards, the violin and harp.
But one day, she noticed a new student joining her homeroom--Caledonia, Lady Hayden's adopted daughter. She was immediately curious about the bitter, ill-tempered girl who couldn't make friends and who others bullied, both at school but mostly in the Voxthain noble circles, and Avaliyah found her heart going out to her. Unlike many nobles, Vali always had an open mind, given her father's heritage, and after many months of being rebuffed for her efforts, the two girls became friends. Caledonia began to stand up for Vali when she was made fun of for wanting to be a healer, and for her father's heritage, and Vali found her voice to defend Cal, too.
For many years they stayed best friends, spending time together on picnics, hen Vali played instruments and Cal would read, or when Cal would train for the militia and Vali would work on her magic. They were easy with one another, and over the years, Caledonia opened up to her about her abusive father, and Vali, in turn, opened up about her struggles with anxiety, her brother, and her father's death
When Vali was a tween, she began to have crushes. She’d always been a romantic. But one day, out of the blue, her crush became Caledonia. Vali realized at around fourteen that she hated it when anyone flirted with Cal, that she hated seeing her engage in a dance with anyone at a Voxthain gala. Vali knew Cal was into women, but seeing anyone, ever, dance with her sparked this horrid jealousy. And the urge to kiss her pulsed in her heart. This was a problem--they were close, and Avaliyah was tossed into an identity crisis; she thought she’d only liked men. She didn't, and after a panicked talk with her mother, she calmed down, accepted who she was, and was encouraged to go after her crush.
And she did. More than anyone before she wanted to kiss her best friend. But her shyness and anxiety stopped her—she was Caledonia’s only friend. Cal trusted her, and Cal didn’t trust easily. So she didn’t want to wreck it by admitting feelings. But at a Voxthain gala one day, Caledonia almost kissed her, and Avaliyah, who realized the chance would pass, leaned in to do what Cal had stopped herself from doing. It was the best day of Vali’s life when Cal kissed back, both admitted feelings, and got together in secret, only some of Avaliyah’s family and Caledonia’s mother knowing.
They stayed together in secret until they were about seventeen or eighteen. Avaliyah cried happy tears when Cal was elected Councilor, and again when she was promoted in the military. But their happiness didn't last long, as one evening at a gala, Avaliyah and Caledonia were caught making out by Alianna Calico. Vali remembers Cal begging Alianna not to tell her father, and running after her, and Vali had a sinking feeling that this was the last she would have of her girlfriend. She was right.
Hours later, the note came in--distant, cold--that Cal was breaking up with her and never loved her. Vali, who knew it was probably under force of her father, tried to not let that hurt her and tried to reach out after and talk with her, but Cal ignored her, and she doesn't know why, especially given James Laughlin's arrest only the next morning. She never believed the reason was fraud, and so she understood some of why Cal was ignoring her, but after five years, she's still not reached out, ignoring all Vali's letters and attempts, and it hurts, a lot.
Since then, she has mainly stayed in her family's estate and thrown herself into helping people as a healer, as well as wants to do all she can to help Voxthain citizens when the shadowfog gets here, and hopes Asterath with help them. She's intelligent, and focusing on work so she won't think about her ex.
Vali senses Ca is hurting--knows she's hurting, and she at first gave her space, but five years later and Avaliyah is actually a little angry at being avoided. So, she's focused on work for now, but she's still hurt by what happened. She just wishes they'd talk--they were once best friends, and now, nothing. She may not have a crush on her anymore, but they don’t even speak now…and she’s worried about her.
She has tried dating a few other men and women, but Avaliyah is so worried over the shadowfog and her anxiety has skyrocketed since the breakup. Her emotions are all over the place, so she hasn't dated anyone in over two years.

Ex | Caledonia Hayden | Voxthain Councilor | @Mine
Avaliyah met Caledonia at a noble gala and Cogworks when the girs were younger. Vali's heart immediately went out to the girl, who was mocked and bullied for her blood, and she tried to reach out and be kind. Vali found herself rebuffed, but she kept trying, and finally, an uneasy friendship formed after they began to talk and Avaliyah was always kind to her. Over the years they became best friends, both looked down on for their blood, until one day Avaliyah realized she liked her. They eventually began dating, and for three years did so in secret. Vali was very much happy with her regardless, and knew about Cal's abusive father. But Avaliyah was dumped coldly one day, and she never understood why, being cold-shouldered or being treated professionally by Cal ever since. Vali's heart has been broken, but she's kept trying to understand. She cares about Cal still, but barely knows her anymore. She is worried.
Cousin | Kieran Thorne | Noble | @Ash
He pressures her to ignore her half-noble status and she feels too much pressure from him. They barely interact, and it pains her. She wishes that Kieran didn't spend his days in Asterath trading in secrets, and while she admires his dedication to helping people as well, she feels as if there are better ways to go about it than simply spending days down there risking his life. She doesn't like gambling but at the same time, does love her cousin.
Mother | Nahilia Thorne | Thorne Matriarch | @Rory
Avaliyah and Nahilia have a generally positive and loving relationship. While they care about one another, Avaliyah finds it frustrating, disappointing, and disheartening that her mother sometimes get frustrated at her moments of emotional compromise when she is on the job. She respects her mother, as it is not easy to run clinics and raise kids on your own, but she believes Nahilia needs to allow more love and understanding into her heart sometimes, and Avaliyah does not feel comfortable around her when it comes to opening up about her anxiety and other emotions, thoughts, or feelings.
Brother | Izeal Thorne | Noble | @Charlie
Izeal was excited for Avaliyah's birth, and she loves her older brother. However, she does not appreciate that Izeal turned to teasing her as they got older, borderline bullying. She had enough of that at Cogworks from nobles who knew her father was a commoner, and then from people who made fun of her anxiety and shyer nature, and people who teased her for actually being a doctor in the clinics. She began to withdraw from Izeal, and Avaliyah has never known how to stand up for herself to him. She wishes he was a better brother, and honestly does not care why he's involved himself with Kieran. However, she does appreciate that he was there for her anyway when she was suddenly dumped out of the blue, but she wishes that Izeal would just apologize for his teasing when they were younger. She does not fully trust him.
Eventual Girlfriend | Europa Vyperion | Asterath Councillor/Snake | @Isabella
Discuss with Isabella. As Europa will show her her sweet side, Avaliyah will be very flustered and attracted to her, and like that side of her. She will adore Europa's love of life and freedom she moves with, but she feels as if she's walking a fine line. She is afraid of how the relationship may end, because Europa is, well, a Snake, the daughter of the leaders, and she's struggling with how to date this woman when she's done so much bad...and when she's essentially been complicit in the torture of her ex.![]()

sua is kind and friendly to everyone around her, being polite and courteous even to the people she hates the most. she is dedicated and always gets tasks done the day they were given to her - unlike her friend tyene. sua is always there for her close friends, which she doesn’t have that many of, but that’s only because she prefers making special and few bonds over rushed and many. being incredibly smart, sua has a passion for history and her spare time is her studying more - though not obsessively. she hates it when people swear or say mean words, making them apologise, but often she will join in on complaining, dissing and trash-talking people she doesn’t like - but only with her close friends. because she has an incredible memory, sua never forgets and holds grudges even though she knows that the person she holds the grudge against has probably forgotten why sua is holding it in the first place, and while it may seem like sua is being nice on the outside, it is often very not what she feels like inside. her good opinion, once lost, is generally lost forever.
sua is your average autistic girly and she also has adhd, which means she has to take meds to stay focused and positive and awake, and she always has bread on her to boost her adrenaline. having autism, she constantly has obsession phases - for example once it was ‘how many backflips do you think you can do from the top of the asterath council room?’ targeted at mostly adéla. sua’s mind never rests and she has to do specific things at specific times and her life has to be a perfect routine otherwise she will get very depressed and stressed. she loses focus quite easily which is why she has meds and she also knows a lot of random knowledge which she will just sprout at you when you’re least expecting it (and she also speaks really really fast so she often has to repeat herself to make herself understood) but she is a lovely person to be around.

but there’s nothing ‘sob’ about my story.
sua was born the illegitimate daughter of the devoe heir, and she was raised by her mother, park kyujin. her mother had once sworn that the only man she would ever love was sua’s father, making it quite clear that it would just be them two, battling through life together. kyujin was the sun keeper of the coven, and raised sua up as her heir, teaching the girl all about the grimcroft line and telling her all sorts of stories to do with her heritage. sua grew up distanced from her father and his family, though he did often visit her before his marriage, in which afterwards he would pretend sua didn’t really exist - not that she cared anyway. she had never needed a father figure in her life, not when the coven was purely female.
when faced with the choice of where to learn magic, sua chose the option of cogworks which was untraditional for the sun keeper’s daughter, but only because she had an affinity for two types of magic and she wanted to learn more. and, she could also learn history, which she had developed a passion for thanks to her mother. abjuration and history became her favourite subject and she mainly focused on it, as well as illusion and art, her favourite art form being sewing.
the year sua turned thirteen, her mother gave her a huge surprise. she had found a partner, a lovely woman called an xiliu, and sua didn’t just now have another mum, but also a little sister! sua was noticeably both excited and anxious for the addition to her family - she had gone thirteen years with only her mother - but she absolutely melted when she first laid eyes on cute, four-year-old yujia. all of sua’s doubts melted away as she learnt to care for her adorable little sister and it seemed like life couldn’t get better.
soon after the arrival of two new people into sua’s small family, her mother suddenly decided to talk to her about getting tested for autism and adhd as kyujin herself had them and she wanted to know if sua did too as sua was struggling to focus in class and not by choice. the tests soon came out as positive, and sua was absolutely delighted as she thought she was more similar to her mother, her role model, than before and she got given meds for class. she adjusted her lifestyle and was very calm and collected and cool about being neurodivergent, which pleased her mother.
at fourteen, sua became best friends with adéla lafortézá, the smartest girl in the year, and in her last year, tyene sand. she wasn’t too sure how she became best friends with tyene of all people, but she was now tyene’s friend and she didn’t regret it. sua aced the exams and graduated as easily as adéla, and all her hard work during those years of studying paid off. adéla immediately started work as a bartender before running for councillor, and tyene carried on with her music, and that left sua.
after graduating, sua trained under her mother’s guidance to succeed her as sun keeper of the coven, and in the meantime, applied to be an employee at the lucke museum, and got the job, giving her a chance to show off her history expertise and she had a job she loved. she didn’t want to leave the lucke museum for the coven, so she tried to juggle them both at the same time with her mother helping her on the coven side of things and with her family’s help and support, sua adjusted to things within a year. by twenty-three, she was fully ready to take on both jobs full time.
kyujin took that as her excuse to retire as she wanted to spend more time with her partner xiliu and help yujia through her last through years at cogworks, and sua successfully took her position as sun keeper, and has been healthily balancing both her work lives and her personal life, not missing any of tyene’s concerts or adéla’s important speeches and other events.

Face Claim: Ju Jingyi
Description: Sera has pale skin, wavy, dark brown hair, and brown eyes. She doesn't style her hair much, preferring to keep it simple with a ponytail or bun. She stands at 5'3". She likes to dress a little more formal, wearing dresses, skirts, and blouses. She also dresses casually though sometimes, wearing t-shirts and jeans. She typically wears sandals and high heels, but she will wear the occasional tennis shoe or combat boot to complete her look.
_______________
Personality: Seraphina is an outgoing and energetic person. She is kind and friendly to everyone she meets, even those that she doesn't know. Her strongest assets are her charisma and intelligence and knows how to give advice. Sera is a people pleaser, always wanting to do whatever she can to make other people happy and doesn't like hurting or upsetting others in any way. Sera is a hard worker and determined, although she can be quite stubborn once she has her mind set on something. She has strong creative skills and enjoys expressing that side through music and writing, her two biggest passions, while also occasionally dabbling in painting. Sera considers herself to be the more extroverted sister compared to Venus, but despite this, she can be quite shy in certain situations depending on what that is.
_______________
History: Sera was born into a wealthy Voxthain family, the younger of two daughters. She and her older sister Venus were adored by their parents and were raised with plenty of love and affection. Her mother was a councilor for Voxthain, and because of this, her family was well-known throughout the city. While not nobility, Sera still grew up with relative luxury due to her family's wealth, and her parents spoiled her and Venus when they had the chance.
Sera attended Cogworks as a child, discovering that she had a natural talent for evocation magic. She made friends with some of the students there, including Megan Avanzini. Cogworks was a great experience for Sera, having great friends and being able to master her magic was the perfect blend of socialization and education for her.
Growing up, Sera's parents enrolled her and Venus in private music lessons, developing a love and passion for music as a result. Venus learned how to play the piano and violin, while Sera learned the guitar and flute. When she was thirteen, Megan and some of her other friends formed a band while they were in Cogworks. Megan convinced Athena Delacroix, whom Sera befriended later on, her to let Sera join. She loved being in a band, as it allowed for her to release her creativity with music outside of her lessons.
Shortly after Sera graduated from Cogworks at eighteen, Venus ran for a position on the council after their mother stepped down to retire. Sera was extremely happy and proud of Venus after she was elected and took their mother's place, knowing that this was her sister's dream. While they're as close since, they still love each other, sending messages to each other often to keep in contact with each other.
After Venus's election, Sera thought about her own future. While she did love being in the band and performing, she wanted to do more. Besides music, she also had a love for writing and enjoyed creating stories as a child. This inspired her to pursue her childhood dream of becoming a journalist. So, she decided to take action. She applied for a position as a journalist and was accepted for the job. This made Sera ecstatic, allowing her to fulfill her dream.
Now, Sera works as a journalist while still performing in the band, playing the guitar and occasionally helping Athena write songs for their performances. Venus attends the band's shows when she can, showing her support for her younger sister. Sera is living the life of her dreams, just like Venus is.

Before anything, Draven is a Delacroix. Well, scratch that, before anything, Draven was Draven, but that didn’t last long. The sweet, shy boy who rambled about pretty things, and lit up when he was happy, and cried far too easily, couldn’t survive within the environment of the Noble House of Delacroix. So, Draven changed, he learned to hide his emotions, numb himself. And accept that what he wanted didn’t matter. Deep down this hurts, so he tends to almost subconsciously gaslight himself into thinking he wants the same things as his mother. He is ambitious and determined, but that ambition and determination have been turned to the wrong things, to simply being the perfect son, making his parents - or now, parent - proud, even if he can’t earn their love - oh how much he wishes he could earn their love - well, it’s certainly too late to earn his deceased father’s now.
The thing is, Draven doesn’t exactly love easily. He tends to rather dislike people as a general rule, but when he does love someone, it’s very real, and very strong. And terrifying. Because he’s sure he isn’t good at it and also struggles with a crippling fear of abandonment. So maybe a part of his rudeness is also just trying to push people away for more reasons than one.
He takes pride in his family name, as well as his title and strong magic abilities, and is often arrogant, rude, and condescending, with a tendency to be sarcastic and dramatic. Although, really, the arrogance is just a mask to hide his insecurities. Because he’s spent his whole life being told he isn’t good enough and has come to believe it. He feels like he never will be, as both his mother, and himself, hold him up to impossible standards.
He'll often pour his emotions into playing the piano, and even more so, into his writing, which no one is ever, under any circumstances, allowed to read. Only the journals can ever know the truth, or as much as he admits to enough for it to slip out. When he's around someone he's truly comfortable with - which, granted, is only one or two people - pieces of the old Draven can shine through, but truth be told, he doesn't really know who he is anymore. If he even is anything, past the perfect mask he wears.Draven has always looked rather like a sickly Victorian child. He's quite pale, as well as thin, and on the short side at 5'8". He has brown eyes and dark brown curls, which he wears slightly longish. While he's always been pale and thin, he is slowly growing more so, due to his potion addiction, and lack of sufficient nutrition, however, he often uses illusion or illusion potions to hide this fact, as well as the dark circles under his eyes which seem to be growing more permanent as time goes on. He has scars along his torso, especially his back, as well as some on the backs of his legs, from old punishments, which he keeps hidden at all times.
There is no such thing as informal in Draven's wardrobe. He practically always dresses formally, generally in all black, with the exception of perhaps a white shirt paired with a black suit. For pants, he wears essentially only slacks and wouldn't be caught dead in shorts. All his shirts are button downs, mostly in either black or white, and many of them have lantern sleeves. He has plenty of black jackets, all at least somewhat formal, and often wears vests as well. The only other colors he rarely - very rarely - wears are dark green and brown. He loves silver rings and always has at least one on every finger. Apart from the rings, the only jewelry he generally wears is a silver necklace with a moon pendant from Elliot, but he always keeps it hidden beneath his shirt. The Delacroixs are one of the oldest noble families in Voxthain, and very proud of that fact. Draven was the second son of the former patriarch, his older brother, Elliot, the heir. So, at first, Draven was really nothing more than the spare. The back-up everyone hoped wouldn’t be necessary. Elliot was the one people cared about, Draven was just the other son. Not that this exactly saved him from punishment, not being noticed only lasted as long as he didn’t mess up. And he was always messing up. Always crying, or saying something he shouldn’t, or losing control of his magic. Elliot did his best to protect him, to take as much punishment on himself as possible, but it didn’t always work. And Draven began to feel guilty about this, even as a selfish part of him was thankful when he was able to avoid it, himself.
At any rate, that time didn’t last very long. Elliot soon proved to be a disappointment. Their parents hoped he would get better as he got older, but he only seemed to get worse. Soon, he was being outright rebellious. And so, their parents turned to Draven, placing all their pressures and expectations for Elliot on him, instead, although perhaps not fully, just yet. Draven had always been more obedient, and his natural talent for magic - evocation in particular - didn’t hurt, as long as he learned to control it. His sensitivity was a problem, but he learned to control that as well. Before even Lala, the eldest of the Delacroix cousins, had embraced their heritage, had donned the Delacroix mask, Draven was doing just that. Being a child was no excuse, nor was it an option. As time went on, and Elliot just grew more and more rebellious, Draven grew more and more compliant. He both wanted to, because he truly wanted to make his parents proud, and perhaps, if it was at all possible, earn their love, but at the same time, he felt like he didn’t really have a choice. If Elliot disappeared from noble events, and pulled pranks, Draven had to remain and be exactly what was expected of a noble. If Elliot was all but failing school, Draven had to be at the top of his class. If Elliot was befriending people his parents didn’t approve of, Draven had to show he would never, might as well just bully all the commoners, that should convince them. If Elliot couldn’t be a good son, Draven had to be a perfect one. But perfect was unattainable.
And, as much as Draven wanted to please his parents, the realization that he might have to choose between them and Elliot - his brother, the one person he loved most in the world - terrified him. Elliot had been progressively spending less and less time with him, and more and more with his friends, most notably Antonio Stormvale, who Draven immediately clocked as a rival, from the least noble of Voxthain’s noble houses, as well as Oakely Gallio, a commoner. Just as an aside, neither were people Oliver and Esmeralda Delacroix would approve of their sons being friends with. It was easy to understand, really, Draven was Elliot’s brother, he had only ever been his best friend by default. And Draven had close friends of his own, in his cousins, Isley and Alex Calico. But he still felt somewhat abandoned by his older brother.
Draven tried to talk Elliot into being less difficult, but this only upset Elliot, who demanded why Draven was letting their parents control him. Draven knew Elliot was punished more than him, and hated feeling like there was nothing he could do about it, but he couldn't understand Elliot’s stubbornness, his apparent lack of any self-preservation. He also feared that Elliot would be disowned and kicked out, separating them. But when he tried to reason with him, Elliot replied that he would welcome disownment and suggested that perhaps he should just run away. Draven had already been terrified at the prospect of being left alone with their parents if Elliot got kicked out, and while he couldn't really blame Elliot for wanting to leave, the thought that he would by choice hurt. Elliot then claimed he hadn't been serious, but Draven wondered if it was just because he had seen how scared he was.
For a little while after that, Elliot seemed to be putting in more of an effort. Staying around more often. But it didn’t last long. Soon, he had returned to spending far more time with Antonio than Draven, staying over at the Stormvales’ whenever possible.
One day, as fifteen-year-old Draven was helping him after a punishment, Elliot suggested that they run away together. A part of Draven almost wanted to take him up on the offer. Yes, he wanted to make his parents proud, he really did, but he didn't truly like this life. But there was also the matter that if they both left, their parents would have no heir. Yes, the brothers had cousins, but their parents would want to pass the title down to their own son. Draven knew that that son would be him, and that if they both left, they wouldn't get away with it. Besides, he didn't even know who he was anymore, apart from his parents. He told Elliot that he had no desire to run away, and to stop coming up with such stupid ideas, and after that, he often feared that Elliot would run off on his own.
During that same year, the tension between the two brothers continued to grow, and showed itself in a full-on prank war at Cogworks, between their respective friend groups. Draven did his best to try and ensure he and his friends were never caught, however, he did get punished twice due to that prank war. Still, in spite of everything, that was the closest he had felt to Elliot in a while.
Elliot didn’t run away, but he continued down the same path of rebelliousness, and then, when he was eighteen, his parents tried to arrange his engagement to Emmaline Leclaire, a noble girl who he was actually friends with. Elliot flat out refused. What was meant to be the betrothal ceremony was a disaster, and that was the last straw. Elliot was disowned and forbidden from setting foot on the Delacroix estate again. Elliot moved in with the Stormvales during the duration of his final year at Cogworks - oh, how Draven hated the Stormvales - but Draven still saw him at school from time to time, not that they ever really talked much. And then, after his graduation, Elliot just… disappeared.

Of course, after Elliot was disowned, Draven was officially the heir of the House of Delacroix, under more pressure than ever, and it seemed that all hope of ever being close to his brother again was gone. Then, when Elliot just vanished from his life altogether, Draven didn’t know what to do. In spite of being a pessimist, and knowing they weren’t going to fix their relationship, it seemed like maybe there had still been the tiniest seed of hope left in him, as long as Elliot was still in his life in any capacity. So, after that, he was left with what felt like a hole in his heart, a hole he didn’t know how to fill. He had Izzy and Alex, of course, as well as some other friends at school, although to be fair, aside from the Calico twins, his “friends” hardly counted as such. Still, he missed his brother. But if a part of him almost wished he could have left with him, no one needed to know.
Enter Edward Leclaire, who was ironically the older brother of Elliot’s almost-fiancée. Edward was a few years older than Draven and had already graduated from Cogworks. At first, he just seemed friendly, and like with anyone, Draven wasn’t exactly quick to trust, but he was at a vulnerable moment, and desperately lonely. Soon, it became clear Edward was looking for a romantic relationship. Draven didn’t exactly feel attracted to Edward, but he had never really felt attracted to anyone, and he wasn’t completely against the concept of romance. Also, he had known for a while that he would prefer that with a boy than a girl, not that he had ever intended to let any of that matter. Obviously, their relationship had to be kept a secret, but Draven was willing to give it a try. However, practically as soon as they started… sort of dating, Edward began to make it clear what he wanted. Draven, at first, put his foot down. There were some things he knew he had no interest in doing, which, in fact, he felt rather disgusted by. But Edward was insistent and wouldn’t take no for an answer. Wouldn't stop questioning whether Draven was sure, or if maybe he just had never met the right person before. Draven began to question how sure he was, himself. Well, he was soon more certain than ever. Especially, since Edward seemed to think an uncertain "fine" once, meant "yes" always. And for the longest time, Draven didn't do anything, didn't say anything, regardless of what he did or didn't want. He feared that not wanting certain things meant there was something wrong with him. His abandonment issues also came into play, because he didn’t want Edward to leave. At first. After about a year, he just wanted to never have to see him again. Finally, he ended up using his magic against him, threatening to kill him if he touched him again. That was the end of that, and Draven resolved to never let such a thing happen again. Besides, he was going to have to marry some girl of his parents’ choice someday, anyway.
It was also around this time that Draven started doing potions. He had always had a tendency to dissociate as much as possible, and the potions helped. When he was high, he didn’t even have to numb his emotions - they were already numb. And it helped with the Edward situation. Not that he stopped after breaking off the relationship. Even when he did realize he had an addiction, even when he realized how it was affecting his health, he had a hard time really caring.
When Draven's father passed away, he left him as the Head of House at only eighteen. Of course, his mother is the true power in the family, and he knows it. Although perhaps he doesn't realize to what extent, due to his tendency to talk himself into believing he wants and believes all the same things as her, even when he doesn't. But lies can be hard to continue hiding, even from yourself, and Draven often feels like he's one wrong move away from destroying himself, or those he loves. Or maybe they'll all just leave him first. Which would surely be best for everyone.Evocation:

Name: Winter Sonnet Devoe
Nicknames: Snowdrop, Winnie, Wintry
Age: 18
Gender: F
Home City: Voxthain
Role: Noble
Appearance: Winter’s name is well-suited to her appearance. Her pale blonde locks of hair fall softly down to her mid-back. Even though her stick-straight hair refuses to hold a curl, she prefers to wear it down and loose whenever possible. For the rare, formal occasion she attends, she suffers her hair being arranged in more complex styles, but mostly she lets it fall freely. Her idea of doing her hair for the day-to-day is to tie it off in a low ponytail or to gather the top and side strands into a half-up style. Her eyes are soft blue-gray, though often partly veiled by strands of hair falling in front of her face, and she has long, dark eyelashes, which she often tugs on absentmindedly. She has pronounced, high cheekbones, a delicate nose, and small, pale pink lips. Her height is an unimpressive 5’5, and her build is slender and delicate, mostly due to her fragile health. She has slim shoulders, a thin waist, and narrow hips, so her curves are almost nonexistent. Her wrists and fingers are slender and elegant, but her narrow ankles and feet cause her to trip or roll her ankles frequently, potentially disastrous when paired with her unreliable sense of balance. Her alabaster skin is smooth and velvety soft, and she has a few faded, white scars across her knees and a faint, slashing scar just below her right collarbone.
Winter’s wardrobe is made of light, flowy materials, soft pastels, and warm neutral colors. She mostly wears dresses of soft, light fabrics that reach just below the knee or to her ankles because anything heavy or bulky is too difficult and uncomfortable for her to move around in. She never goes anywhere without a sweater or coat since she is almost always cold, and her preferred footwear is socks. No shoes, just fuzzy or wool socks. For the rare, formal events she attends, she likes wearing floor-length gowns just so she can discard her shoes and stroll about in her socks without anyone being the wiser. She hates wearing makeup and usually goes without, unless one of her family members badgers her into letting them do it for her. Although she is a noble, she wears very little jewelry, except for the silver snowflake pendant she wears around her neck daily. Otherwise, she only wears additional jewelry for special occasions.
Personality: Winter is a very sweet and thoughtful girl. Despite her sheltered upbringing and limited relationship skills, she is kind and empathetic, able to feel what others are feeling intensely. She has a difficult time understanding people who are cold and cruel, but she still sees them as people with their own experiences and feelings. She is often awkward around other people, especially people she doesn’t know, but given time, she can be a fascinating person to talk to, once she feels comfortable enough to open up to others. She is a loyal and devoted friend to anyone who cares to befriend her, and she’s happy to be friends with anyone, regardless of their class or upbringing, as long as they aren’t rude or spiteful to her. However, she struggles to initiate friendships due to her shy nature, and it has cost her some opportunities to get to know other people who could have been good friends.
Although she appears fragile on the outside, Winter is anything but. Her personal discipline and intense focus are rivaled by few, and she always does things to the best of her ability, even to the detriment of her own health sometimes. When she sets her mind to something, she doesn’t give up, even when faced with obstacle after obstacle. Sometimes it would be wiser to give up, but she hates quitting anything and normally has to be persuaded to. Her inability to reach her own perfectionistic standards is the greatest source of her frustration, and she allows other people more grace and forgiveness than she gives herself. She wants to believe that if she tries hard enough and has a strong enough will that she can do anything that anyone else can, and it can be devastating when she realizes that her limitations are different than most people’s and has to accept that she might not be able to do something to the degree that others can or even at all.
She used to care a lot more about what people thought of her, but after being written off immediately by most people (especially other nobles), she’s gotten used to it. There is something freeing about being invisible to the majority of people, and she simply goes about her business, not concerning herself with how she appears. Her whole life she has been an anomaly, and being ostracized, ignored, and taunted are all old hat to her. From being excluded as a child to bullied at Cogworks, she’s learned not to let those kinds of things wound so deeply. Although as a result, she tends to be more comfortable around commoners than nobles, and she would count more than one of the servants in her family’s home as her good friends.
She has a vivid imagination and an unquenchable love of books. One of her favorite activities is to create her own sketches of book scenes and slip them in between the pages once completed. Stories and poetry are how she makes up for her lack of experience out in the real world, but they can only do so much. She is rather naïve and gullible, and it has gotten her into potentially dangerous situations on several occasions. So far she hasn’t suffered any disastrous consequences or humiliated herself too severely, but it’s likely to catch up with her at some point, especially now that she’s eighteen.

Magic: Winter never learned much magic, between her fragile health and limited schooling. She has a little talent for evocation magic and can summon and manipulate basic elements.
Family:
Father: Devoe Younger Brother (uncreated)
Mother: (also uncreated)
Siblings: (if any, same as above)
Uncles: Ezekiel Delacroix
Aunts: Evelyn Delacroix, Charlotte Fitzpatrick
Cousins: Lorelai Delacroix, Athena Delacroix, Corinne Delacroix, Park Sua Devoe
History: Winter was born into the noble Devoe family. As a child, she was unusually small and plagued endlessly by illnesses and ailments. Her health was fragile throughout her childhood, and she spent more time battling sickness and recovering than anything else. Other children her age were able to run and play and go to school while she was mostly stuck indoors and at risk of falling dangerously ill if she went out in the rain or cold and caught a chill. She was always envious of her siblings and cousins and wished she was able to join them when they went outside to play or left the house to visit relatives or see the sights around Voxthain. She grew up hearing about all their adventures, living vicariously through them. It wasn’t ideal, but it was better than nothing at all. Perhaps they grew frustrated with her pestering them for stories. Maybe she asked too often or at the wrong times. Whatever the reason, she could tell she was becoming a nuisance. She counted herself fortunate that she knew how to read and could escape into her books for adventures and companionship instead.
Whatever her other shortcomings in her schooling might have been, she was at least an excellent reader. It was slow going at first because of her weak constitution and intense bouts of illness, but once she got the basics down, she devoured books any chance she got. She loved when other people would read to her too, but the independence of being able to read on her own (provided she was well enough) was something she held onto dearly. It was one of the only things she could do on her own semi-consistently. Whenever she grew tired of reading the same stories, she tried her hand at writing her own, but she always felt that she failed to capture what she imagined and usually ended up discarding her manuscripts or tucking them away somewhere she would forget about soon after. Fairytales and anything dreamlike or whimsical were her favorites both to read and write, and poetry was a close second. She was even worse at crafting poems than she was at stories, so she mostly focused on enjoying the verses in her favorite collections, which were very well-loved volumes, the pages yellowing, binding falling to pieces, lettering faded on the covers. If she wanted, she could have asked for new books. There was no reason why her family couldn’t afford it, being nobility and all, but she loved the feel of the worn pages she’d flipped through hundreds of times before and the intimate familiarity with each book, as if they were her oldest friends. In a way, they were. She knew every crease, every stain, every faded letter, every loose page. Sometimes she felt like she knew her books better than she knew herself. The ones she loved most she could nearly recite by heart. Eventually, she would probably have to if she didn’t acquire new copies before they fell apart completely.
When she was well enough, she loved to wander the gardens on her family’s estate. She grew to love sketching, and she would sit on a picnic blanket on the estate grounds and draw her favorite spots in the garden from different angles or at different times of day. The finished projects she would use to decorate her room with, so that whenever she was ill and bed-ridden, she could look at her sketches and imagine she was sitting in the gardens peacefully. During her good days, she put considerable effort into brightening up her room. Since she spent so much time confined to it, she wanted it to be as pleasant and comfortable to be stuck in as possible. It sometimes felt like a prison cell, but it didn’t have to be an uncomfortable one. There was a small veranda accessible from her bedroom, and she filled it with potted plants. That way she could have a little piece of the garden outside her window for the times she was too ill to leave the house. She tried to take care of her plants as much as possible, but when she was in the throes of illness, she had to rely on family members or the servants to remember to look after them.

History cont'd: Sometimes she pretended her fragile health was due to how much her room loved her and wanted her to stay. It seemed to let everyone else come and go. Family, servants, doctors, and nurses, they were all able to enter and exit as they pleased, and only she was the one who could not. Her bed and pillows had a special affinity for her, she reasoned. Her early years were spent being probed and examined by various doctors attempting to find the root cause for her weak constitution. Sometimes she was grateful for her family’s money and status, and other times it was more of a pain than anything else. She supposed she should be more grateful that her family had the means to pay doctors and experts to see her, and she felt guilty for not appreciating the advantages she was lucky to have more fully. However, she strongly disliked having so little privacy and having to explain her symptoms over and over again to each new physician, only for no conclusive results to be found. Several theories were posited by different physicians, though Winter herself only heard the simplified versions if she heard anything at all. The more detailed explanations were given to her parents. In each case, there were recommended treatments to lessen her pain and reduce the frequency of illness, but there were never any cures. Still, the carousel of doctors revolved on. Winter made frequent requests to her parents to let it be, but they were not as quick to give up as she was. Eventually, they conceded the point: nothing further could be achieved from getting other opinions. Winter’s health would do what it willed, and they could only do their best to manage it.
Oddly, her room felt empty once the physicians and nurses stopped visiting so frequently. They were irritating to deal with, but at least she had someone to talk to. Some of them were cold and distant and not much fun to talk with, but others were pleasant and friendly, willing to spend a few minutes of their time talking to her. Once the doctor visits decreased, she usually only saw them if she was especially sick or if some new concern had arisen. It got her into trouble occasionally, but sometimes if there was something bothering her that seemed minor, she kept it to herself instead of notifying her parents. She usually mentioned it to one of the doctors the next time they happened to see her if she was well enough to say something, just in case it turned out to be something significant, but she had long given up hope that any answers for her condition would be found.
During her better periods, she was allowed to attend parties and social functions for the city’s elite. She didn’t go to many and was normally one of the first to leave once she became too tired to stay any longer, but that was alright by her. Her social skills were lacking, and she spent most of those events feeling awkward and out of place, not knowing anyone outside her immediate family members. Sometimes she could persuade the servants at the house to help her practice conversations, but while it helped some, she found that most of the other nobles were in an entirely different league than she was. Her lack of dancing skills was another issue, and even though she tried to learn on her good days, her health prevented her from practicing consistently enough. It might not have been so bad if she didn’t push herself so hard, leaving herself vulnerable to catching sick, but she grew so frustrated sometimes with not being able to keep pace with everyone else. Music was another thing she dearly wished to learn, but like dancing, it was challenging to practice regularly and required strength, coordination, and stamina that she was not always in possession of.
The one bright spot in all of that was the assistant to her primary physician. When she was a teenager, her physician took on a student a few years older than her and hired the boy to be his assistant. Leon became one of the only friends she ever managed to make, and she could never figure out exactly how that had happened. It probably wasn’t anything of her own doing as she hadn’t had much luck befriending other people before now. She concluded that Leon must simply be a very kind-hearted and accepting person, even if he did insist on calling her Winnie when he knew it annoyed her. He was very supportive and let her talk about whatever she liked, whether it was a disastrous ball she’d attended or one of her favorite books. He quickly became her closest confidante, and she looked forward to his visits. Sometimes her physician couldn’t make her appointments due to emergencies at the hospital, so he sent Leon to check up on her instead, much to her delight. After he asked her questions about her health and made notes for her physician to follow up on, he would spend the rest of the afternoon taking her on walks if she was well enough or hanging out in her room with her. Normally one of the maids was in the room with them or nearby, so it was all very proper. She persuaded him into helping her practice dancing a few times, but since he didn’t know how to dance very well, it didn’t accomplish anything other than the two of them laughing at their own clumsiness and giving it up.
When she was sixteen, her parents enrolled her in Cogworks. She had learned to better look after her health, and except for unusual circumstances, she didn’t fall seriously ill as often. Going to school for the first time was overwhelming. Before now, she had studied on her own and had periodic lessons from tutors when her health allowed it. Even Leon helped her from time to time when she was struggling in a subject he was good at, so she at least knew more than nothing when she started attending Cogworks. However, in addition to learning to navigate the school and the social hierarchy, she had to deal with being behind in every subject, except for reading and writing. She was placed in a grade lower than her same-age peers, but she still struggled with the material. Leon tutored her when he had time to spare, but he could not prevent her from being bullied. She was shy, awkward, and vulnerable, an easy target for predators. The constant bullying made it challenging to focus on her studies, and after the first semester, her instructors recommended that she resume being homeschooled as the environment at Cogworks was not conducive to advancing her education. Her parents pulled her out of the school, much to her relief, and she continued to work on her studies on her own. She kept to a strict schedule as much as she was able, not wanting to fall further behind in her schooling now that she realized just how far ahead of her everyone else was. There wasn’t much she could do about her health, but she at least had some control over her studies.
In the midst of all that, there was the strangeness concerning her physician. When he visited her for her periodic check-ups, she could tell there was something changed. She didn’t know what it was, but she recognized that his behavior had altered. He stayed to talk with her longer, asked her questions about herself and her personal life that had nothing to do with his ability to provide care, and didn’t bring Leon with him as often. On more than one occasion, Winter was almost sure he was flirting with her, but she convinced herself she was imagining it. He had been her doctor for a few years now, and their relationship had always been strictly doctor and patient. Maybe she needed to stop reading so many romance novels for a while if she was imagining things like this. She began to dread when she was due for check-ups because it had become so uncomfortable to interact with her physician, but she never said a word, believing that it was all in her head. Whenever she saw him, she did her best to be polite and respectful, the way her parents had taught her, silently wishing he would take his leave as soon as possible.
One day, while her physician was checking her pulse, he admitted his feelings for her and asked her if she would be willing to give him a chance, if she would consider a romantic relationship. No one had ever asked her anything of the kind before. All her manners failed her, and she simply sat there, speechless. When she didn’t respond, he listed off several things he admired about her and attempted to convince her to say yes. Still, she did not know what to say, and her physician said he would give her time to think about it. The next few visits, proceeded in a similar fashion. He would invent a task or an errand that would get rid of the maids just long enough for him to pester her about dating him, and she could never find a way to refuse him firmly enough. Fortunately, one of her maids returned earlier than anticipated one day because there was a clarification she needed from the physician about something he’d sent her to fetch, and the maid overheard enough of the conversation to go running in search of Winter’s parents to report the situation. Her father summoned the physician away from her room on some pretense, and that was the last Winter ever saw of him. Unbeknownst to her, Leon was the one who had truly saved her. Suspecting there was something off about his employer and the fact that he was often told not to accompany the doctor whenever he went to see Winter, he had asked the maids to keep a close eye on Winter, just in case. The maid who had returned too early had done so on purpose, at Leon’s request. Eventually, a new doctor was found. He was younger than her previous physician, but he was very professional and pleasant. At Winter’s request, he agreed to take on Leon as an assistant since he had turned in his resignation to the previous doctor and was looking for a new position.
Things proceeded normally for the next couple of years – at least what Winter considered to be normal. She remained devoted to her studies and to her favorite activities, reading, writing, and sketching. Her health was a constant challenge and the main source of her frustrations, as always, and she had an alarming bout of illness when she refused to stop pushing herself, determined to build up her physical strength and stamina. It set her back a great deal, and she was forced to be extra cautious for a long time after. Leon stayed true like the loyal friend he was, and she was always overjoyed when he had spare time to walk around the grounds with her or to tell her about everything that was happening with him.
Then the shadowfog and the murders began. Being so sheltered her whole life, it was both difficult and easy to understand the shadowfog. She had a superb imagination from reading so much, so it wasn’t difficult to picture what the shadowfog was. It was another matter entirely to understand what it was and what it meant. So many things that were normal for others were foreign to her, and in some ways the shadowfog fell into that same category, though she did come to understand the urgency in time. The murders hurt her heart to hear about. Although she did not personally know the people who had been killed, she felt so sorry for their families and loved ones. She realized how lucky she was that it was unlikely she would be a victim of whoever the murderer or murderers were with how little she left the house and even then, never on her own and rarely at night. Her safety was a privilege that many others did not have, and she sincerely hoped the criminal or criminals would be caught soon for the sake of everyone’s safety. Most of all, she worried for her best friend. She couldn’t see why anyone would want to murder him, but then, she had a hard time imagining why anyone would ever want to kill anyone else in the first place. What cold hearts some people must have. And while Winter might have been cold to the touch, she was anything but cold at heart.
Other: She adores any purple flower.

24⠀⠀⠀⠀Male⠀⠀⠀⠀Voxthain⠀⠀⠀⠀Noble⠀⠀⠀⠀Bi⠀⠀⠀⠀conjuration/enchantment
Tamrion Seavey is not a kind person. The man is arrogant, classist, and vain, brutish to his core often hidden behind a very poised exterior. He is polished on the outside, but there is always a hint of the more slobbish man he can be. He's mean, vicious, and looks down on anyone less than him by blood, while he's also quite lazy, preferring to sit around with a glass of alcohol and peruse the newspapers, offering up snide comments and manipulative ideas to make the Seavey name better, or that of their allies, the Calicos and Delacroixs.
He is skilled in manipulation, very cunning with a cruel interior. Tam highly values the core ideals of traditional Voxthain nobility, including marriage for the purpose of heirs as well as seeing the women marry out. However, this is where things got harder--Tam does care about Melody. He won't say why he loves his sister and gets protective of her--even he isn't sure why--but he does.
Tamrion is a smoker, often smoking fancy pipes and cigars when he's not supposed to, and he doesn't exactly treat his servants well. He is dismissive of them and demands perfection from his staff at all times, punishing failures harshly. He helps oversee the papers, and is fully prepared to step into that role of head of house and head of the industry when his father dies or steps down. He demands fine things, and does not like to get his hands dirty, but at the same time, he does exercise and work out.
Tamrion is angry. His fiancée disappeared without a trace, fracturing some of the goodwill between the Seaveys and Calicos; he was thrown out of the militia as well; his father did not approve of him being in said militia in the first place. Truly, while Tamrion likes to manipulate and wants to control the family business, he cracked under his father's pressure, and wound up in the militia as a form of escape. He wanted to get stronger, but his anger just got worse when he was thrown out.
He was a bully at school, often teasing and harassing anyone who was a commoner who tried to become something more than he believed they were born to be. To him, Cogworks never should have served the people, and he believes noble lines need to remain pure. He is not a book-smart person, and his skills with magic are decent, and he works more to hone them. He is skilled with manipulation in the papers and finding dirt on people.
Tamrion stands tall at about six feet, with pale skin, a heavyset, muscular build, and dark blond curls he often slicks back. He prefers fancy silks and gold brocade clothing, often wearing many rings on his fingers. He has hazel eyes with more brown than green, while he has many scars from his days in the militia. He prefers appearing put toegther on the outside, unless he feels like utilizing his size and strength. There is often a cruel or apathetic look in his eyes.
Tamrion was born the eldest son and heir of the noble Seavey family in Voxthain. As a result, he had expectations placed on him from a young age: know the family business, invest in the family business, and keep the family name upright and in positive light at all time. That family business was journalism, and Tam was a kid who did not want anything to do with it at first. The pressure of being that heir was so much, and his father was not a kind person.
But, seeing as his younger brother was a delinquent over the years, Tamrion tried so hard to be perfect. He pretended to be interested in his father's lessons and the Seavey business, and over the years, genuinely became more into the journalism that he could manipulate and twist at his will, as well as became almost as cold at his father, but Tamrion always also had a thrill of adrenaline and somewhat hurting others.
So, also to get out his frustration, he remained at Cogworks long after the school day ended if he could help it. Tamrion had gathered a lot of friends around him, nobles from some of the most wealthy houses, and he almost formed a gang. He and Alianna Calico became fast friends, a terrible duo to any poor person who crossed their paths who they did not like. Tam had learned his value was in his blood, his wealth, his family's newspaper, and that anyone who was not a noble had less worth as human beings than he was.
And, since he was smaller, Tamrion also liked the way he was a larger dude, and he wanted to bring pain to the criminals and people in Voxthain who dared to go against the laws. So when Tamrion was about twelve, he joined an after-Cogworks militia training program. He was fast in picking skills of brute strength, in punching and kicking, but he was not skilled with firearms as well as he should have been.
There also developed additional problems. Tamrion often found himself in trouble with the militia for bloodlust. Growing up, he was too harsh in criminals, and he was cruel towards commoners, biased in his actions. He was often in trouble with Commander Hayden for being a bit of a jerk, and she threatened on multiple occasions to throw him out, though he never quite took her seriously enough, as he had a bit of a sexist streak to him as well.
A lot of his acting out also had to do with the Seavey family curse, where every patriarch died at fifty. Tam, who didn't like to admit things scared him, has stayed awake at night trying to figure out what this was and why it happened. He had never been the most skilled at magic, but he was desperately searching volumes, as well as working best he could--even now-to get ahold of some of the Delacroix books on magic, wondering if something in their books speaks of a curse like this. He also tried, and still does, to gain access to the Lucke Museum's archives--maybe there's a history detail on curses, he doesn't know.
When he was only fourteen, a betrothal was agreed upon between Alianna and Tamrion. It was more unusual, given the Calicos did not marry their women off, especially as Alianna was the heir and was dating another man at the time, but he was unbothered by it. They didn't like each other that way, and so they agreed when they wed, they would have an heir for Tamrion's house, one for Alianna's, and then never see one another as husband and wife again. Alianna would live at her home and run the Calico's business, and Tamrion his. He wanted her wealth, even as they were some strange form of friends, and so the marriage would somehow be mutually beneficial. Tam supposed he could print decent things about the Calicos if he had to in the paper, and a Calico was a smart marriage match.
But when Tamrion was seventeen, he woke up the mornin after a Council election and saw Alianna had vanished. To this day, she had not been heard from again, and it enraged him. There went more of the chances he and his father had of attaining the Calico wealth, as they were top-of-the-line rich, and there went his chance of at least marrying someone he knew. Sure, she was a friend, but Tamrion was more concerned with the loss of the jewels. To this day, he wonders about what happened to her, and is furious he now has to wed some useless girl.
But fear and uncertainty--the curse, his father, and eventually his asshole cousin who hurt Melody, who he beat up severely--made him meaner than he already was from being born a Seavey, and the firstborn heir at that, and he became downright cruel. While he fully became to a foot soldier in the militia after he graduated Cogworks--and by graduated, it was more of he barely passed--Tamrion became worse off. He would ditch his squad, beat up people who stole and who were trying to survive on the streets, and made fun of anyone who he saw as beneath him.
At eighteen, Tamrion knew he needed to focus more on the papers, and he was more into the business at this point, but his father was still someone he was wary of, and Tam lived in a state of denial--away from the Seavey estate meant he could live away from the curse. Being in the militia allowed him to show he was strong to his father, unlike his soft brother Teddy and his delinquent brother Matthias. He took on smoking at Cogworks, and drinking, but he preferred a fine wine with meals and to smoke more frequently when he was stressed and as a point of rebellion. He was also angry over the homophobia in the Seavey line. He liked a noble boy at Cogworks and had to hide that, too.
At only nineteen, not even a full year after he joined the militia formally, even as he still worked at the Seavey family business, always loving to find dirt on the other nobles, he was thrown out, dishonorably discharged.
Ever since he was a young boy at galas and Cogworks, Tamrion had had it out for the now-Sergeant-and-Councillor Hayden. Not only was she common-born, walking around as if she had any right to breathe the same air as him, but she was a better fighter than him, more skilled, stronger, everything he wanted to be. He loathed her and he loathed her adoptive mother, who kept Voxthain's citizens safe. He hated them for their safety bulletin, as his father does, and because of the professional tension between the families, and he hated them because they used the militia to--horribly--keep people safe, protect the innocent.
He had always bullied the younger Hayden at school and galas, ruthlessly being cruel and playing mean pranks, alongside Alianna, and he never respected her in the militia, either, jealous and spiteful and genuinely disgusted that she was allowed to even call herself a noble or be educated alongside him. They got into so many fights at Cogworks.
And so the militia was an issue for him--he never followed her orders, he deliberately blew her investigations, did anything he could to harm her reputation, while he also never respected her mother, Commander Hayden. He had been talked to several times, given warnings for bad behavior, but Tam never took her seriously.
Until one day, he was thrown out for going too far. Already, he found out, Lady Hayden had been planning to discharge him, but when he beat a petty thief, he was arrested by Sergeant Hayden and discharged. It left him more hateful towards the Haydens in general, and he threw himself more fully into the Seavey business, his pride also taking a hit. He had failed, and he was angry. Tamrion wanted to prove he still could do something well, so he would be a great gatherer of information, overseeing the press. He committed fully, and now, uses his strength and fear, including twisted means of his magic, to manipulate an cajole journalists and workers into making his family look good, and tearing down the rest of Voxthain with as simple as a cruel smile or well-placed threat.

Father | Name Seavey | Seavey Patriarch | @user
TBD, but Tamrion is not a fan of his father for some reasons. He blames him for the family curse, and he also dislikes some of the Seavey family's homophobia. He has moments where has disagreed of his father and where the man can sometimes be on the crueler side. While Tam can as well, he has not always agreed with the man on certain things. That said, Tamrion also respects his father's classist outlook on life and vies to make him proud and ready to be the head of the Seavey family one day. He learned a lot from him, including the desire for power and manipulation tactics, as well as the family business of the newspaper and how to best use that to his advantage.
Younger Brother | Theodore Seavey | Noble | @bella
Teddy is his least favorite sibling. He is jealous of how intelligent he is, and dislikes the kindness he shows and how he doesn't voice his thoughts much. Even more, he dislikes the way Teddy disagrees with some of the family business and beliefs, and Tamrion finds that highly insulting and wrong. In his mind, Teddy is weak, and thus Tamrion is not afraid to bully him when he feels like it. He thinks he needs to toughen up a lot, and so as a child, Tam would push him around.
Younger Brother | Matthias Seavey | Noble | @isabella
Tamrion dislikes Matthias for his criminal activity, but is closer to him than Teddy given they both understand their position as nobles in Voxthain and what that should truly mean. As someone who trained for and was a part of the militia for a year or so, Tam sees Matthias as an annoying delinquent, at least partly. He understands the pressure of the family name, and he agrees nobles are okay to get away with some crime others cannot, but Matthias, in his mind, needs to start representing the family better Ironic, coming from Tamrion who bullies and beats up people on a whim. That, and he both hates Matthias' substance abuse problems while also knowing full well he's getting more addicted to smoking as the years go by. He does this in part to throw shade away from his own issues, and in part because it agitates him.
Younger Sister | Melody Seavey | Noble | @alpha
To this day, Tam doesn't know why, but Melody is the one sibling he loves truly. Maybe it's because, like him, she has a mean streak, but Melody is the one woman in his life who makes him question the family tradition of marrying the women off. He doesn't want to lose her to marriage one day, and doesn't like the idea of her marrying Draven. He's wildly protective of Melody, going so far as to beat up their cousin when he hurt her.
Ex-Fiance/Best Friend | Alianna Calico | Noble/Runalithe Leader | mine
Tamrion hit it off with Alianna as children. The same age and the same beliefs in classism and cruelty, they became a deadly duo in Cogworks and at galas, the heirs to their fortunes who were arrogant and sadistic. They walked around Cogworks like they owned it, bullying people together and pulling vile pranks on students of common blood. When they were about fourteen, their parents arranged their future marriage, and they agreed to make it unconventional, where they would live apart, to have their own lovers and run their own houses. But when Alianna ran away, Tamrion felt angry and betrayed. While they never spoke of their inner feelings, Alianna was someone Tamrion knew agreed with him, and now he has to marry some other girl he doesn't even know. At least Alianna was with him in his twisted beliefs, and at least she knew about the family curse and had agreed to help him find a solution, as he had agreed to help her eventually if she ever needed to....erase someone.
Enemies | Katarina and Caledonia Hayden | Sergeant/Councillor | mine
Tamrion has never liked nor respected Cal. He finds her tainted, a commoner adopted into nobility, and as a result, has done all he can to hurt her. He bullied her viciously at Cogworks, humiliated her at galas, and tried to essentially get her to drop out of school and maybe even disappear. His classism permitted him from respecting her even in the militia, where he did what he could to undermine her, and his sexism disliked taking orders from her and her mother. Both had always disliked him in turn, and he was always getting into vicious verbal and physical fights with Cal at school and even once or twice in the militia. He was jealous of the way she fought better than him and handled weapons and magic with more skill, but their explosive natures had them often in detention for fistfights on Cogworks, and benched from the militia before she became a Sergeant. But when he was kicked out, he no holds even more hatred towards the Hayden family as a whole. He never respected Katarina, either, seeing as values in the militia and towards Voxthain as weak, and the fact she adopted two commoners as beneath her and insulting.![]()

⠀⠀20⠀⠀⠀⠀male⠀⠀⠀ voxthain/asterath⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀nobility/athlete⠀⠀⠀ pan⠀⠀⠀⠀illusion
Antonio is a jock with a heart of gold. He lives and breathes soccer, it’s true, but what’s most important to him is his family. He has a bit of a tendency to “collect” siblings as it were. First of all, there are his actual biological sisters, and then all the Stormvale cousins, and his best friend Elliot Delacroix, with whom he shares no biological relationship, but is his brother, genetics be damned. Antonio would do anything for any one of them.
He has always preferred Asterath to Voxthain, due to its more carefree environment, however, he does really care about intercity relations. But, damn, do some of the nobles piss him off. He and Elliot were known for their pranks during their Cogworks years, and Antonio still loves to occasionally play them on his friends and family, especially with Elliot, but also on his own. In spite of all this, Antonio wasn’t a bad student, he was always intelligent, and did well enough in all his classes.
He’s also an early bird, and likes to get up early to go for a run before breakfast. And while he certainly isn't the flirtiest person in Lux, he can be pretty flirty. Especially when he's nervous. He does love attention, but doesn’t let it go to his head - for the most part at least. Sure, he has his cocky moments, but deep down he cares about helping others so much that sometimes he forgets to take care of himself. And sometimes - just sometimes - the role of eternal optimist can be a bit difficult to fill.Antonio is about average height. He has thick dark brown waves and dark brown eyes. He isn't very big, but as an athlete, he is always fit.
Antonio is often found in ether sports wear, or jeans, often still with a jersey, or a varsity jacket. He likes wearing bright colors like red and orange, and when it comes to shoes, he wears almost exclusively sneakers. He isn't big on jewelry, but he does wear his class ring from Cogworks, as well as several braided bracelets.Antonio loves being a member of the Stormvale family. There’s a sense of freedom they enjoy that most of Voxthain’s nobles don’t. Because they’re really very far from any of the other houses. They have homes in both cities, and while Antonio loves both, he's always had a bit of a preference for Asterath. While the Stormvales don’t conform to the typical noble house structure, his uncle is the one who people might consider their patriarch, However, his parents have always handled most of the inter-city relations, often moving back and forth.
Antonio grew up in a loving family. His parents were busy, yes, but they always made time for their children, and he had his younger sisters, who he often played with, as well as plenty of cousins. The cousin he has always been closest with is Xavier, as they’re the same age, and as they got older, they started going for runs together and such.
At Cogworks, Antonio met Elliot Delacroix, and the two immediately clicked. Even as a child, Antonio knew about the Delacroixs’ reputation - it was kind of hard to avoid - but he immediately knew that even if the rumors were right about the rest of the family, they were wrong about Elliot. The two boys seemed to be alike in all the right ways. All the right ways to get along extremely well, but also be a bit of a terror to others, that was. In a harmless way. They had a tendency to prank other students, they weren’t really picky about who, although as time went on, they found themselves targeting the classist noble kids more often. Which at one point turned into a full-on prank war, when said noble kids, led by Elliot’s younger brother, Draven, struck back. Antonio and Elliot absolutely reveled in that prank war.
Antonio was a striker on the Cogworks soccer team, and took the sport very seriously. It was after he made the team that he and Xavier’s runs started. While Elliot didn’t care much for playing sports, he did help Antonio train, and enjoyed watching and cheering for his friend.
Antonio had always felt protective of those he loved. He always wanted to help his little sisters and his cousins if they ever needed it, keep them safe. This was no different with Elliot, and when he realized that his parents were abusive, he was determined to help him. He let Elliot come over whenever possible - he loved having him over whenever possible - but he wanted to do more. He wanted to save him from his awful household. Elliot sometimes spoke of running away, and Antonio encouraged him to, but Elliot wouldn’t leave his brother. Did Antonio suggest just kidnapping Draven? Yes, yes he did. Would he have actually done it? Yes. Sometimes, he really thought that he would just go and try to kidnap both Delacroix brothers. Not being able to save them - especially Elliot, his best friend, his brother, just about drove him crazy. Finally, when they were eighteen, Elliot got disowned, and came to the Stormvales.
While Antonio hated all that his friend had been through, he was glad that he was finally out of that house, no matter how it had to happen, and was happy to have him at his own home. The family had no problem with Elliot remaining with them for the duration of their final year at Cogworks, and after graduation, when Elliot insisted he needed to get his own place, Antonio helped in any way he could. Which, while not as much as he would like, due to Elliot’s stubbornness and pride, was likely more than he would have allowed anyone else to.
Antonio continued to play soccer, going professional after graduation. He loves the sport as much as ever, and loves getting to play for a living. While he may remain mostly out of noble society and politics, he does his best to help strengthen inter-city relations. And if his family ever needs him, he’ll be there, no matter what it’s about.Illusion:

Face Claim: Jordan Fisher
Description: Casper has medium tanned skin, brown eyes, and short brown hair. He stands at 5'8". He dresses casually for the most part, wearing t-shirts, jeans, jackets. For shoes, he exclusively wears combat boots.
______________________
Personality: Casper is a quiet and reserved person. He usually keeps to himself and prefers to be independent and alone. Though he's more social and open once he gets to know someone more. He's intelligent and is very skilled in math and sciences, having a natural talent for them. When he's not working, Casper likes to read and cook during his free time. He is a kind and caring person, wanting to help others in any way that he can. He has empathy for those affected by the shadowfog and others who have struggled for any other reason. Casper's strongest asset though is his loyalty. He's always there to help his friends when they need and is someone that they can rely on.
_____________________
History: Casper was born to a poor family in Voxthain. His father was a traveling merchant, hoping to provide enough for his family. His mother remained home so that she could raise him and his sister. Due to this, his father wasn't around much, out traveling the continent and selling goods.
Despite this, Casper's father still remained in contact with the rest of his family. He would send letters, and Casper grew up hearing wonderful and magical stories about his travels, which made him excited. For him, it made it even better when his father would occasionally return home from his travels and tell the stories himself. Casper missed him while he was away, but the letters and stories made it more bearable.
When Casper was four years old, he and the rest of his family were sent an unexpected letter from his father. He explained that he was in Runalithe when a shadowy mist hit, known as the shadowfog. He managed to escape, but not before his arm was affected by it and beyond repair. When his father returned home, Casper was shocked to see the state of his arm. His mother immediately took his father to get a prosthetic, resulting in a new magic-filled left arm.
Casper's parents enrolled him in Cogworks at five years old, inspired to focus on transmutation magic after his father's incident in Runalithe, along with conjuration. Casper was hard-working and obedient student, always doing his best to do well in school. He didn't socialize with others much, but he did manage to make a few friends. While he did enjoy school, nothing memorable stood out to him during his years at Cogworks.
Casper graduated from Cogworks at eighteen, being able to use transmutation and conjuration magic with ease. He already knew before graduating that he wanted to become a mechanic, wanting to help others affected by the shadowfog just like his father was. Shortly after Cogworks, Casper got a job working under a mechanic at the Tinkerers' Hall. He and the mechanic worked closely together, having a mutual respect for each other. Impressed with Casper's natural talent as a mechanic, he quickly rose up in the ranks, eventually becoming a proper mechanic.
Now Casper has been a mechanic for the past five years, loving every minute of it. He gets enjoyment out of helping others and creating prosthetics for people, whether it's because of the shadowfog or for other reasons. He's worried about the shadowfog as it draws closer to Voxthain and doesn't want more people to die or be affected by it like his father was. But for now, he's just focused on his job and tries his best to carry out his duties like any other day.

Name: Llio Sigrid Grimcroft
Nicknames: Lili, Lia (she hates this one), Lilo/Loli (usually a mispronunciation/misspelling of her name), Sóley (used exclusively by family and maybe a close friend if she ever manages to make one)
Alias: Elin Solfrid
Age: 28
Gender: F
Home City: Voxthain
Role: Twilight Singer
Appearance: Llio’s magic brings the phrase “two-faced” to life, and the face she was born with and the appearance by which everyone knows her are not the same. In her natural appearance, Llio’s wavy, dirty blonde hair reaches to the bottom of her shoulder blades, but she has been dyeing her locks a light auburn color for years. Because of how easily her hair tangles and its slight frizz, she rarely leaves it down and never When she’s in a rush, her go-to styles are quick braids, a messy bun, or loose ponytail, and she uses clips, pins, and headbands to keep all her curly wispies and baby hairs out of her face when she wants to appear more presentable or for the occasions she wants to leave her hair loose. Her eyes are hazel with stunning gold flecks, and they can appear brown, green, gold, or amber depending on the lighting and what she’s wearing. Her skin is fair with pink and gold undertones, and a generous helping of freckles are scattered across her rosy cheeks and nose. Her eyebrows are darker than her hair color, but though they arch nicely over her eyes, they are too thick for her liking. Her eyelashes are short and dark, and she has soft cheeks, a small chin, a dainty nose that turns up a touch at the end, healthy, pink lips, and a large mouth, which is evident whenever she smiles. She has an elegant, long neck, slim shoulders, and a tall, lean torso, and her height is 5’9. Her long arms and strong hands make climbing trees easy, and her slender fingers were made to play the piano. Her hips are just wider than her shoulders, and she has a full bosom, giving her a decently curvy figure. Perfectly proportioned to her torso, her legs are long and graceful, and her feet have small arches. She has no notable scars, but she does have a small, light birthmark in no discernible shape on the side of her right shoulder.
The face everyone else sees is not so drastically different from her natural one, just free of all the imperfections, at least in Llio’s opinion. Her hair is wavy, thick, and silky soft, with none of its normal frizz and propensity for tangles. She keeps it the same length and auburn color as her “natural” hair, and even though she doesn’t need to, she stays vigilant about dyeing her hair. She could simply color it using her magic – and she does from time to time if she’s unable to dye it again before it starts returning to its normal color – but it’s easier to maintain her illusion if she doesn’t have to think about hair color. She loves to leave her hair down and loose, but just as often, she pins it up in sophisticated styles, weaving in a few braids here and there for fun. Her eyes remain the same color, the gold flecks a little brighter if anything, but her lashes are long and black. Her complexion is fair and flawless, not a freckle or blemish in sight, and the golden undertones are warmer and brighter, making her appear more radiant and healthier. Her nose she keeps the same, but her eyebrows are lighter, thinner, and perfectly arched. Her cheekbones are sharper, and her mouth and lips are smaller and more delicate. She keeps her build mostly the same, adding higher arches to her feet and softening her skin, and because she believes true perfection shatters illusions, the birthmark on her shoulder remains.
As Elin, she has shiny, golden blonde curls that brush the tops of her shoulders and hazel-brown eyes with deep maroon flecks. In certain lighting, it can almost look like her eyes are dark red or reddish-brown. Typically she leaves her hair down because she loves the way her curls bounce when she walks or turns her head, and she adds in gold or sparkling pins when she wants to dress up, which she usually does when she’s playing as Elin. Her complexion is light olive, warm, and healthy, and her cheeks are naturally rosy and of course, without freckles. Her eyebrows are lighter to match her hair, thin, and more rounded than her illusory appearance, and she has a straight Greek nose, delicate chin, and full, pouty lips. Her height is the same as her natural appearance, but Elin’s shoulders and hips are a touch wider, creating more severe curves. Her build is lean but more toned, and the birthmark on her shoulder is absent in this appearance. Instead, she has a beauty mark on the outside of her right hip.
Llio’s dress style is simple but elegant. Her favorite colors are red, beige, gold, pink, and violet, and she prefers dresses over pants or skirts, though she will wear either if the occasion calls for it. Strappy sandals or heels are her usual shoes, and her favorite piece of jewelry is a hair comb adorned with a golden songbird. She likes stud earrings, chokers, and rings the most for jewelry.
Elin’s sense of style is much different from Llio’s normal wardrobe. She prefers cocktail dresses, Bardot sleeves, pumps, fringed shawls and fur capelets, asymmetrical and high-low skirts, silk scarves, and anything with beads. She gravitates towards bold reds, emerald and dark greens, blacks and grays, sapphire blues, and other jewel tones and darker shades. She never goes anywhere without nail polish and lipstick, and she loves to use glitter and tiny rhinestones in her hair or makeup. Brooches are her staple jewelry piece, but she likes earrings, necklaces, and anklets too. She tends to lose rings and bracelets all too easily and usually avoids wearing them, and she normally wears rose or jasmine-scented perfumes.
Personality: Llio is confident, ambitious, and disciplined. She knows her limits and is always trying to push herself to expand them. Sitting still or staying in the same place (figuratively and literally) is not for her, and she is restless and discontent if she isn’t working towards something. However, the victory of accomplishment often feels hollow since she has so few people to share it with, and she finds herself immediately thinking about what she’s going to do next.
She never thinks she is good enough at anything. Even though she is the Twilight Singer in the Coven, she believes there is still more she can learn to increase her skills and knowledge. Just being awarded the rank of master doesn’t mean there isn’t more to learn. She never allows herself to be lazy or to let achievement make her lax, and she keeps to a strict schedule to maximize her time and efforts.
The one thing she has always been insecure about is her natural appearance. Being criticized for her looks frequently as a child made her self-conscious enough to disguise herself using magic, and even as an adult, she continues this practice. It isn’t enough for her that she has attained formidable skill with magic or risen up in the Coven, and so she has no plans to ever stop hiding behind her illusions. They are her armor, and she uses them to shield her from other people and the world.
She walls herself off from other people, not wanting to give anyone a chance to hurt her or see how vulnerable she is behind the strong, driven façade she wears everywhere. More than anything, she wants to be both beautiful and unbreakable, and she will do almost anything to stay that way, even locking everyone out. There are people she might call friends, and she does socialize within the Coven and with certain family members. However, she doesn’t let any of them truly get to know her, and her relationships with them are mostly surface-level, though she may act as if these friendships are deeper than they are to prevent other people from noticing how much of a loner she is.
She has high standards for herself and other people, and even though she can be impatient with herself, she has more patience and grace with her pupils. Life isn’t easy, and magic isn’t something to be taken for granted or used frivolously. She’s a difficult teacher when it comes to magic and certainly doesn’t give out free passes or let anyone slack off under her tutelage, but she is invested in her initiates and wants them to succeed. She can come off cold at times, but she isn’t heartless and will go out of her way to help anyone who’s struggling.
Her behavior when she’s acting as Elin is much more talkative (to give the appearance of openness), silly, and light-hearted. She smiles, even laughs, a lot more frequently and is more outgoing and relaxed around other people. Elin can tell stories, share secrets, and open up to other people in a way that Llio cannot because at her core, Elin isn’t real – even if she’s very real to Llio. It costs Elin very little to be authentic and happy and free, and she is unashamed to be herself. She craves spontaneity and excitement, and as a result, she tends not to have many close friendships because she hates to be in the same place or doing the same thing too long. It’s also a way to keep people at arms’ length for the sake of Llio’s comfort. However, Elin is very sweet when she wants to be, and though Llio would never, she can flirt and tease other people with ease.

Magic: Llio is the Twilight Singer in the Coven, a master of illusion magic. She can cast illusions of various types (visual, auditory, olfactory, tactile, etc.), change her appearance or the appearance of other people and objects, and can make herself, other people, or objects invisible. Additionally, she can manipulate other people’s dreams, can perform telekinesis for short periods, and knows a couple, minor enchantment spells. Instead of using transmutation magic to send short messages to her sister and cousins (if they're close by), she uses her illusions to create auditory hallucinations only the target(s) can hear when they are within range.
Family:
Father: Owen Blaine
Mother: Anya Grimcroft
Stepfather: Erik Vaalea
Stepmother: Danika Blaine
Sister: Leya Vaalea
Aunt: Liv Grimcroft
Cousins: Astrid and Theodora ("Sassa and Teddy") Grimcroft
History: Llio Sigrid Grimcroft (formerly Blaine) was born to Owen Blaine and Anya Grimcroft in Voxthain. Her family was by no means wealthy, but they were able to live comfortably enough. Her father worked as a concert pianist and composer, and her mother, in addition to being a daughter of the Grimcroft family and a Coven member, worked part time at the library and sometimes for beautification projects around the city.
Although she was too young to understand what was wrong, she picked up on the tense atmosphere in her home. When things were good, their lives felt marvelous to Llio, but when her father was short on work or frustrated with a composition, things were dreadful. The first couple years of her life were overall happy ones. Her father’s compositions were mostly successful, and there was little financial strain on her family. However, not long after, he lost his muse, and commissions dried up until they were almost nonexistent, only a few of his numerous works being well-received. The name Blaine became synonymous with failure. Her father had such a bright future at the beginning of his career, but now he was another washed-up composer, disgraced and turned to potions to forget his shortcomings. The stress took a heavy toll on her mother too, and she was impatient and cross with young Llio, even over minor trespasses.

History cont'd: When Llio was three years old, her parents separated, and her mother changed their names back to Grimcroft. She and her mother went to stay with her aunt and cousin in their home until they could get back on their feet again. Aunt Liv’s home was spontaneous and chaotic, but it was a welcome distraction from the strain she had been living under in her old home. She made fast friends with her cousin Astrid, whom everyone affectionately called Sassa, and the two of them were joined at the hip for the duration of her stay. It was just as well that she spent her time with Sassa, so that at least she was not around to notice her mother crumbling. However, when her mother remarried, she was forced to leave the sanctuary of Aunt Liv’s home and move into a new home with her mother and stepfather.
It hadn’t even been a year since her parents had separated, and already her mother had brought a new man into their lives. There wasn’t anything specifically awful about her stepfather besides the fact that he wasn’t her real father, but she didn’t much care for him. He was a botanist, not as glamourous a career as her father’s but at least more stable, and her mother said they had met while she was volunteering on a beautification project for the Voxthain. The truth was that they had met in a bar, but that was the story they told Llio when she was little.
Like her mother’s first marriage, things went smoothly in the beginning. When Llio was five, her mother delivered a little girl, her half-sister Leya. Even as a baby, Leya was beautiful and sweet and good, everything that Llio later came to feel she was not. Llio was unsure at first, but she grew to love her sister over time, determined to make sure that nothing hurt her. She loved watching over her sister, singing her to sleep, and helping her play with her toys. When Leya said her first word, it was “Lolo,” her best attempt at saying Llio’s name. Llio was so overjoyed she felt like she was surfing on clouds the entire week.
But just as before, cracks threatened to rock the foundation of her mother and stepfather’s relationship. Llio didn’t know what happened behind closed doors, when she wasn’t around, but she could tell when things were off. And things were very, very wrong. It started off small, her mother snapping at her for leaving a plate out or forgetting to make her bed, being punished for misunderstandings or small mishaps, and the like. Eventually, she and Leya were being sent to live with her father and stepmother for a few days at a time every other week. They were eight and three years old at the time, respectively. Llio hated staying with her father, and not because of him but because of her stepmother. Her father had sobered up, started writing again, and had gotten a job teaching piano, so she had no issues with him. Her stepmother, Danika, was another matter, and Llio thought she was cold and vain. Danika disliked both Llio and Leya, and she was only kind to them when Owen was around to see. She called Llio an ugly duckling and told her she wasn’t allowed to smile because her mouth was hideously large. She said her limbs were too long and awkward and that she was thankful she didn’t have a child as unattractive and useless as Llio. Llio cried and cried when she was alone in the guest room, and at night she waited until Leya fell asleep and then cried silently into her pillow until she fell asleep too. It was miserable being at home, and it was miserable at her father’s house.
One lucky day, Aunt Liv invited her to come stay the weekend for Sassa’s birthday. Llio agreed, desperate for any escape, but she felt guilty for leaving Leya behind. She tried her best to enjoy her time with cousins (by now Aunt Liv had another daughter named Theodora, Teddy for short), but she couldn’t help venting a few of her insecurities to Sassa. She was nervous after, wishing she had kept her thoughts to herself, but Sassa and Aunt Liv decided to plan a girls’ day. They took her shopping for clothes, and afterwards, she got her hair done at a salon that was run by Aunt Liv’s sister-in-law. She had always wanted different colored hair, so Sassa helped her find a lovely shade of auburn to dye it. After that, she never wanted to be seen with blonde hair again, and she dyed it the same light auburn color vigilantly.
That one, bright spot sustained her in the dark days that followed for a long time. Even when it was hard, even when her stepmother was being unkind to her, she held onto her memories of Sassa and Teddy and Aunt Liv. She was willing and able to bear her stepmother’s harsh words, but she wouldn’t let Leya fall victim to them too. Her stepmother spoke cruelly to Leya only once, and Llio flew into a fit of rage, shouting at her loud enough to draw the attention of her father. Her father sent her and Leya to the guest room, and whatever happened between her father and stepmother after, she barely saw her stepmother at all until her mother came to collect her and Leya. Her father privately apologized for the things her stepmother had said, but Llio didn’t want to hear it. He was her father, and of all the awful, messed up people in her family, at least he should have been the one to defend her. It was too late now. He had been blind to what was happening for too long, and she didn’t want to trust him anymore.
At home, her mother either ignored her, leaving her and Leya alone while she went out, or she helped Llio practice magic. Her mother was a Coven member and specialized in enchantment spells, and she wanted her daughters to one day be able to join the Coven too. Llio tried her hardest to follow her mother’s instructions, practicing every chance she got so that she wouldn’t disappoint her, but she didn’t like to enchant other people. It felt manipulative and cold, just like everyone around her. And once she knew how to recognize it, she could have sworn her mother tried to enchant everyone around her, including her stepfather. It further turned her off to enchantment, and she promised herself she would never do such a thing to anyone else. Instead, she focused on things that she found useful, like telekinesis and protection spells. If it came to the worst, she wanted to be able to take care of Leya, so anything she thought might help her to do that she tried to learn. She even tried to teach Leya a little when her sister was old enough, not wanting her to be defenseless.
Eventually, Leya was old enough to join Llio in their mother’s magic lessons. She didn’t have the same work ethic and ambition Llio did, but it quickly became clear that she was in possession of enormous talent for illusion magic. The sights and sounds and textures she created were impressive and detailed, and although she was untrained and unfocused, even Llio could recognize that her amount of potential was rare. She helped her sister practice when she could, not wanting Leya to be on the receiving end of their mother’s disappointment and harsh words. If Llio could help it, she didn’t want Leya to ever know how self-centered and apathetic their mother could be. Through this, she discovered that illusions came easily to her as well. Before she hadn’t bothered with them much because they didn’t seem especially useful, and even though she wasn’t as phenomenally talented as Leya, she still had a generous dose of her own talent for it. For the first time, magic was almost fun to practice. She could change her hair color, eye color, even the size of her stupid mouth, and more. Looking in the mirror, she felt beautiful and confident, comfortable in her own skin for the first time. Her illusions were like armor to her, protecting her from all the bad in her world. She could be anyone, go anywhere, do anything she wanted. Magic had finally provided the key that unlocked her cage. But Leya. She could not - would never – leave Leya behind. Someday, she promised herself, she would get her and Leya away from this place.
Leya always wanted Llio to go with her wherever she went. Llio would have done anything, including falling on her own sword, for Leya, but there were times when she was so exhausted that she just wanted to be alone for a little while. She always felt guilty for refusing her sister’s requests, but she didn’t know how else to soldier on without a little rest here and there, even if she wasn’t sure she deserved it. It was especially difficult when Leya wanted her to join an outing her stepfather was taking her on. Llio had never learned to like her stepfather, only to tolerate him for Leya’s sake. He had always been kind to her, but Llio suspected he was just trying to win her over to make her mother happy. She didn’t want to know him, didn’t want to like him. What she wanted was for her real father to love her and care about her the way her stepfather loved and cared for Leya. It wasn’t fair. She loved her sister and wanted the best for her, but it cut so deeply that Leya had a father who adored her and she didn’t. She tried so hard to follow the rules and make her parents proud. She guarded Leya from everything, would wish away her own existence for the sake of her sister if it would help, so why at every turn was she denied the one thing she wanted for herself? She felt like she was being torn in two, hating the whole world and everyone in it but loving Leya with everything she had at the same time. Deep down, even she knew it was unsustainable to go on like that. But she didn’t know any other way, and she was alone.
When she was fourteen, her mother and stepfather separated. At least she wouldn’t have to suffer her stepfather’s presence in the house anymore, but the separation also meant that she saw a lot more of her mother. Her mother, refusing to acknowledge that her own manipulation and enchantments had been one of the root causes of the problems she faced in her marriages, blamed everything on Llio. It was Llio who had driven her stepfather away and destroyed their relationship, and there was nothing that could persuade her otherwise. The same cruelty that she had suffered from Danika returned in the form of her mother. It was almost comical that her mother truly hadn’t noticed she’d been dyeing her hair for the last six years, but suddenly it was an issue, along with her freckles and imperfect skin and yes, her mouth that was too large. Llio invested all her effort into perfecting her illusions. It was difficult to maintain them for hours at a time, but she forced herself to do it. Someday, when she left this place, she’d need to be able to sustain her illusions for as long as she needed, so no one would ever know what she looked like underneath. Leya didn’t understand it, but Llio didn’t expect her to. Her sister was effortlessly beautiful and had never been made to feel less than based on her looks. Even though her sister was the way she was because of how fiercely and vigilantly Llio had always protected her growing up, it was becoming increasingly difficult not to be envious of her. She had wanted Leya to be this way. It had always been her goal, but sometimes she just couldn’t stand to be around her sister. Leya was a constant reminder of how much she had been made to suffer and how everything was wrong and upside down and utterly unfair.
It was a relief when Leya went to stay with Llio’s former stepfather. Sometimes her mother wouldn’t be around much, and Llio could find some peace and quiet in their absences. She kept practicing her magic, dreaming of the day she was old enough to join the Coven as an initiate. It was one of the first goals she had for herself that didn’t revolve around Leya, and she was determined to achieve it.

History cont'd: When she was finally old enough, she was allowed into the Coven as an initiate. Her aptitude for illusions was recognized quickly, and she trained under the then-Twilight Singer until she was a full-fledged Coven member. It wasn’t easy, but she was disciplined and organized and strived to do the very best she could. By the time she first entered the Coven, she had perfected her illusory appearance, and so she felt comfortable around the other members, able to maintain her façade flawlessly. She made the acquaintances of several of the other initiates, and while she called them her friends, she never truly let her guard down around them. She was used to disappointment, and she didn’t have the heart to give anyone else a chance to hurt her.
Of course, a few years after she joined the Coven, her half-sister Leya was initiated in, specializing in illusion magic just like she did. By this time, Llio’s illusory appearance caused the two of them to look very different, and Leya was also going by her former stepfather’s name, having never adopted the Grimcroft name. So it was unsurprising that not everyone connected them as sisters. Llio suspected most of the older members and leaders were aware, especially if they had known her mother, but her same-age peers and the girls younger than her often made the mistake of assuming they weren’t as closely related as they were.
Loneliness increasingly pervaded Llio’s life. Even though she had achieved her goal of becoming part of the Coven, she still felt empty. She wasn’t sure what possessed her to do it, but she remembered something she used to do when she was younger and decided to try it out again. She created a new face for herself and went for a night out in the city. The freedom of being no one, of being anyone she felt like, was just as intoxicating as she remembered. There were no expectations and no limits, and she could do whatever she felt like. She found herself spending more and more evenings this way, trying out different faces and personalities. One such evening, she was perched on a barstool when a stranger managed to coax her into conversation. Usually she didn’t entertain conversations long enough to give away much personal information, but the man who’d approached her piqued her interest. When he asked for her name, she gave him the first one she thought of: Elin. She never saw the man again and never felt like looking for him, but that face – the persona she’d named Elin – became the one she wore the most when she was in need of an escape.
It was Elin that first met her ex-husband. Sure, she flirted, and sometimes she entertained a fling here and there for a week or so. But there had never been anyone that truly captured her interest before. It took months of teasing and almost but not quite committing for her to decide on giving him a real chance. She was older, things were different now, so why not? They dated sporadically to accommodate her busy Coven life, but after a year of dancing in circles around each other, things became more serious. Until then, she had never thought about revealing Llio to him. She had always been Elin around him because Elin was the one that everyone liked. Debating between telling him the truth and keeping up the ruse tormented her, but when he proposed, she decided she was going to have to tell him. He took it better than she expected, but understandably, he was still hurt that she had been masquerading under another appearance for as long as he’d known her. They spent some time apart after that, but in the end, he forgave her and proposed a second time. She accepted, and they were married when she was twenty-three.
Although she had admitted to using her illusion magic to alter her appearance, she never showed her true face to her ex-husband, only Elin’s and the one she wore around everyone else. Sometimes she even made up other faces just to casually run into him on the street or outside his workplace. To her it was like a fun game, getting to interact with him (however briefly) as different people, seeing glimpses into different sides of him. But one morning she slipped up and gave herself away. He figured out it was she who had “accidentally” spilled coffee on him on the sidewalk, and that marked the beginning of the end. She was emotionally closed off, didn’t like to communicate, and sometimes did or said things that were a little manipulative, and sooner rather than later, all of that contributed to her divorce. She knew things were reaching the end, and one day, she realized she had instinctively begun to enchant him. Just like her mother had done in all of her relationships. Just like Llio had always promised herself she would never do. It hadn’t mattered when Elin had enchanted random strangers she met, but this time meant something. Horrified, she fled their home and spent the night with Leya at her place. The sisters were no longer as close as they had been growing up, but Llio didn’t know where else to go. At least Leya wouldn’t ask her a million questions or judge her for running away. The next day, she left Leya’s without saying a word and returned to her home. She initiated the divorce proceedings, and it was all over within a matter of months.
Not long after her divorce, she became the new Twilight Singer in the Coven at twenty-five years old. It was a great honor, and she was elated to finally be recognized for her talents with illusions. It was the icing on the cake to be chosen over her sister, who was objectively more talented but lacked ambition, not that Leya ever cared about such things anyway. Her relationship with her sister had been rocky for years, but she didn’t think there was anything to be done about it now. She had her own life and her new position as Twilight Singer, and Leya had… well, whatever it was that Leya had.
Since the shadowfog’s encroachment, Llio has been searching for something to help combat it. She’s not sure illusions are going to do much good against it, but there has to be something else that could help. So she spends her spare time scouring the texts she’s gotten her hands on and asking other magic masters questions about their fields of expertise.
Other: Llio loves wearing rings as herself, but for some reason Elin always loses them. Go figure.
tamrion, antonio, casper, and llio are all approved! i love how much character creation is going on!!

Theodore, or Teddy, as most people call him, has always been shy and quiet. While he sometimes feels lonely, and wishes for friends, he hates meeting new people. Social anxiety always strikes when he has to interact with people he doesn’t know. Due to this, he never had many friends, and in Cogworks, he mostly stuck with Melody’s friend group, when he wasn’t just by himself.
He doesn’t agree with his family on many things. After all, they’re clasist, sexist, homophobic - practically anything bad, they are. While all the Seavey siblings may not fully agree with their father on every little thing, Teddy is the only one who fully disagrees with practically everything. And this makes him feel somewhat like an outsider in his own family. He doesn’t want to be like them, because they’re clearly wrong, but at the same time, he wishes that he were - well, really he just wishes that they weren’t so bad. And that they would be more accepting of him. He doesn’t generally voice his opinions, especially not when it contradicts his father. He’s more quiet by nature, yes, but he’s also a bit scared to do so. A part of him always just wants to fit in, so he tries to pretend he doesn’t disagree, but he can’t fully hide it, because he can’t just go against his morals. He’s “too kind” for a Seavey. His father and eldest brother have made no secret of the fact that they see him as weak. And, well, maybe he is.
Teddy has been into STEM since he was little, and his interest has only grown as he’s gotten older. It took him a while to decide what he wanted to do with his life, but now he’s an apprentice in a science lab, and very happy there. He has a bit of a tendency to lose himself in his work, and just check out of everything else when he’s really focused. His room is a constant mess of papers and notebooks full of diagrams, gears, and other pieces of inventions he’s working on, and at least half the time his clothes end up in places other than away or in the laundry as well. Unless specifically granted entrance - a rare occurrence, generally reserved only for Melody, the one sibling he’s actually close to - no one is permitted to enter his room. And never touch his stuff, ever. As nice as he usually is, he can lose it if you mess up something he’s been working on.
Teddy’s never been particularly active, but sometimes he does like fencing. It started as something he did just because he felt the need to prove he wasn’t as weak as his father and brother thought, but he ended up actually enjoying it. So while it’s not his favorite thing, per se, there are times when he does like to do it, but it is the only sport he has ever, or will ever have any interest in participating in.Teddy is 5'10" with brown eyes and shoulder-length dark blond curls, which he generally leaves loose, but will sometimes pull back while working.
Teddy's overall style is mostly dark academia. He often wears khakis with a sweater vest over a button-down, and dresses in a lot of blues and browns.Teddy and his twin sister, Melody, are the youngest siblings in the infamous Seavey family. Teddy was always the shyest and quietest of the Seavey kids, which his eldest brother, Tamrion, often bullied him about. He was always saying he was soft and weak and needed to toughen up, and pushed him around a lot. His father was the same. While he often seemed to not care at all about Melody, misogynist that he was, it seemed that he often ignored Teddy as well. Or made comments similar to those Tam made. And while Melody at least had the support of their older brothers, Teddy didn’t. This led to him feeling a bit like an outsider in his own family. As time went on, it felt like all he had was Melody.
When Teddy was younger, he wanted to make his parents proud, but as he got older, and began to realize how awful his family’s morals were, he began to wonder if that was really what he wanted. After all, the Seaveys were classist, sexist, and homophobic; they used their power over the press to be cruel and manipulative. Teddy decided that he didn’t want to fit in at the cost of going against his morals, however, he didn’t make a point to tell anyone what he thought. Rather the opposite, actually. Quiet as he had always been, it didn’t make much of a difference.
Melody had always been the bubbly, outgoing twin, and when she began to act differently, Teddy was the first to pick up on it. Then, when they were twelve, he began to see signs of physical bullying. When he realized what their cousin was doing he wanted to do something about it, but wasn’t sure how to help, other than telling their parents. He was thankful to learn that Tamrion and Matthias had also picked up on it. Their father wouldn't listen to them, however, their mother was able to intervene, and get him to act. Which he did by disowning the cousin, regardless of his young age.
The following year, Tamrion got kicked out of the militia. Angry over this, he became more of a jerk than ever, and per usual, of his siblings, it was Teddy he took it out on most. Teddy had mostly accepted that this was his lot in life. It was what came of being… well, him. He was different from the rest of his family, and the older he got, the more he realized he disagreed with them. Besides, he was always getting caught up in science - inventions and chemistry were so much easier than people. Numbers were so much simpler than words. He didn’t know how to make friends, he always felt so awkward when he had to interact with strangers, and that wasn't even to mention the anxiety. At Cogworks, he was usually either alone, or with Melody and her friends, as he was generally too nervous to make any friends of his own. He simply didn’t know how to, and even if he got lonely sometimes, he didn’t exactly want to. So, it really wasn’t just his family he was different from - it seemed to be everyone.
When he was fifteen, Teddy started fencing. It was mostly because he wanted to prove to his family - and maybe himself, as well - that he wasn’t as weak as they thought. Maybe fencing wasn’t the best way to do that, but it seemed like a good enough option, and something he could handle. While he disagreed with his family that being kind made him too soft, he did feel like he was the weakest member in his family in a lot of ways. Not only was he not as physically strong as his brothers, but he also felt like his shyness and social anxiety were a problem. Fencing only really addressed the first, but it was something. Much to his surprise, he ended up actually enjoying fencing. It wasn’t his favorite thing - it was certainly never going to beat math and science - but he truly did like it, and wasn’t too bad at it either. Granted, he wasn’t very good at first, but he put in the practice, and was soon rather skilled. Not the greatest, no, but he came to the point where he won at least about the same amount that he lost.
It wasn’t until he was in his late teens that Teddy started having a bit of a sexuality crisis, and found himself struggling with some internalized arophobia and acephobia. He had never met another aroace person, at least that he knew of, wasn’t even aware that it was a thing. He felt like it was just him being weird and different again. At first, he thought maybe it was just that he didn’t really know anyone. Maybe he just hadn’t met the right one yet. But recently, he began to really think about it and realized that he really had no interest in romance. Well, it wasn’t like he was ever going to let his family find out. Surely, his not dating didn’t seem too weird, maybe they would just think it was his shyness. He knew he would be expected to marry one day, although, thankfully, there was less pressure on him in that respect than on Tamrion, as the heir, or Melody, due to the family’s tradition of marrying off their women - one of the many things Teddy disagreed with. Still, one day he would be expected to, and he supposed he would just have to deal with it. Maybe, with an arranged marriage, there wouldn’t be as much pressure for an actual romantic relationship. He didn’t know, and he didn’t know why he was this way. It was just one more thing to make him feel like he didn’t fit in.
Teddy spent much of his teen yearsstressing overtrying to decide what he wanted to do after graduation. He wasn’t really interested in joining the family business, working on the newspaper. Nor did being a Councilor appeal to him. But he was always messing around with inventions in his spare time, and he came to the conclusion that a career in science was the one thing he could actually enjoy. He managed to land an apprenticeship, which he was ecstatic about. Maybe some people thought he was weird, but he had learned to ignore that as much as he could, and this was what he wanted.Transmutation:

Face Claim: Jennifer Connelly
Description: Charlotte has fair skin, gray eyes, and long, wavy black hair. She is slightly above average height, standing at 5'7". Her clothing style is a mixture of casual and formal. One day, she will wear a t-shirt and jeans, the next she will wear a dress or skirt, depending on her mood.
_______________
Personality: Charlotte is a kind and patient person, always willing to help those who need it. She is intelligent and charismatic, having a sharp memory as well. She has a love for animals and enjoys being outside and exploring nature. Charlotte cares for her students and wants what's best for them. She is determined and headstrong, which can lead to stubbornness. She will do what she believes is right, even if clouds her judgement at times. One of Charlotte's strengths is her empathy. She is very understanding of other people's struggles and will show sympathy for them, even if others won't.
_______________
History: Charlotte was born into the Devoe family, one of Voxthain's older noble families. Her parents had high expectations for her and her siblings, placing emphasis on marrying into other noble families. Much like her siblings, she was determined to make her parents proud meeting this expectation.
Charlotte was enrolled in Cogworks, realizing that she had a natural affinity for enchantment magic, which became her main focus. She worked closely with her enchantment and astronomy, making sure that was practicing and perfecting her enchantment magic. Though she knew that her parents wanted her to marry after she graduated Cogworks, Charlotte wasn't too concerned about that at the moment. She was focused on her studies and doing well in school.
That was, until she met a boy named Matthew when she was twelve years old. They became fast friends, which slowly blossomed into a romance over the course of three years. Knowing that her parents wouldn't approve of Matthew due to his commoner blood, they kept the relationship a secret for a year. Charlotte had her parents fooled, At least, that was what she thought.
When she came home from school one day when she was sixteen, she was confronted about Matthew, somehow figuring out their relationship. Charlotte got into a heated argument with her parents, expressing frustration that they didn't want her to be happy with him. They threatened to disown her if she didn't break up with Matt. To her parents' shock she refused, saying that she would rather be happy with Matt, not caring that she would be cut off from the rest of the family. They told her that once she turned eighteen, she was officially disowned since she didn't agree to break up with Matt.
The day Charlotte graduated from Cogworks was when she was disowned. She packed her things, said farewell to her family, and left the Devoe estate, never turning back. While she was somewhat regretful for her decision, she was glad that her and Matt were still together. After this, Charlotte and Matt moved into an apartment together, living happily.
Charlotte and Matthew married when they were twenty-two in a private ceremony with just Matt's family. None of Charlotte's family attended, which saddened her, but her new husband and his family were her family now, so she didn't dwell on it too much.
There was one family member that supported Charlotte through everything; her sister Evelyn, who Charlotte found out married into the Delacroix family. Evelyn is the only person in her family who she frequently still has contact with to this day, though to an extent some of her other family members as well. She found out that her sister was almost disowned when she dated a commoner as well, but Evelyn broke off the relationship. They bonded over this and shared their anger at their parents for cutting off Charlotte.
When she was twenty-five, Charlotte applied to be the new enchantment and astronomy teacher and got the job. She's been a teacher at Cogworks for twenty years and has loved every single minute of it. She enjoys working with and helping the students and her teacher's assistant Megan. She wishes that she could talk to the rest of her family, but she tries not to dwell on it too much.
