The best character is... Uncle Tully! A savant being hunted for his remarkable inventions.
I just found Katharine annoying truly. Granted she's out of her depths but really she had 18 months but she's just not prepared for what came for them. And then to find that she's almost always wrong in her judgment of other people - oh, I guess that made he laugh a bit but boy, frustrating too! And while I liked her growth at the end; that 'romance' ending was just too corny for me.
