WHEEL OF FEELS
Duration: January 1 - December 31, 2025



Take a ride on an Emotional Rollercoaster this year as we explore Robert Plutchik’s wheel of emotions. The flower-like illustration above shows eight core emotions at the center with three more levels of intensity as the colors range from dark to light along each petal. An additional eight combined emotions lie between the petals, e.g., Joy + Trust = Love.

Read fiction or nonfiction, using one or more of the options below – Spelling, Titles, Experiences, and Colors. Please note that while a book may fit nicely for all the options, it may only be used for one. I.e., The Particular Sadness of Lemon Cake could fit as a P for spelling, Sadness in the title, an emotion experienced by you or a character, or for its blue cover; however, you must choose only one place to apply it.

You will advance along the Rollercoaster Thrill Scale as you read, from a Tame coaster after 8 books up to Extreme for 40 or more. Please hold on… and enjoy the ride!

🔠 Emotional Spelling - Choose an emotion from the wheel, and spell it out using the first main word of your book titles (omitting articles such as a, an, or the). Spell as many emotions as you wish.
Example:
J - The Japanese Lover
O - One Perfect Couple
Y - Year of Yes

🔎 Emotional Titles - Find up to 32 named emotions from the wheel in the titles of your books. Variations and synonyms are allowed, e.g., amazing or awe can count for amazement. Angry or mad could work for Anger.

😮 Emotional Experiences - Make up to 32 matches with the named emotions based on how your books make you feel, or an emotion experienced within the book. E.g., you may feel Anticipation with a cliffhanger, or someone in a horror book might experience Terror.

🌈 Emotional Colors - Read books whose cover colors match the emotions on the wheel. Combined emotions should include the two colors on either side from which that emotion is derived. There are 24 named emotions, 8 unnamed shades, and 8 combinations, for a total of 40 possibilities.
Examples:
Vigilance (orange) - James
Admiration (green) - Everything Inside
Remorse (pink and purple) - The List

How to Participate:

1. Post here telling the challenge leader how many books you plan to read.
You may choose your books at the beginning, or add them as you go. You may join any time during the year, and may change your goal whenever needed.

2. When you finish books for the challenge, edit your original post or member’s corner thread to add them.
Instructions are in the how-to link below.

3. To have your progress updated, post a new comment here to let the challenge leader know.
Every time you post an update, be sure to include your original (sign-up) message number, the number of books you have completed, and your goal. We use your original message number to identify you, since multiple members may have the same profile name.
