Hello Procrastinators!

As 2024 comes to an end, we the mods would like to know what you would like to see more or less of in 2025. Any feedback is useful and we will take into consideration, but nothing is promised.

Feedback on the following would be most useful:
- Group Reads & Should we continue these?
- Quarterly Challenges
- Challenges in general
- The Discord Server
- Genres
- Improving interactions with each other

Constructive feedback is best, and please keep it to this thread and not in the direct messages of the mods.

Thank you
❤︎The Procrastinator Mods (Aless, Mina, Edith, Hafs, Sophie, Brianna Raquel & Kayla)

Would you mind elaborating on this?

We have 2 team challenges each year. We typically have at least 1 yearly challenge and now we are trying to decide on doing all 4 quarterly challenges. Sometimes we include each other on these quarterly challenges.

message 5: by Brianna (new)

Brianna C | 1248 comments The main things I participate in within this group are:
Challenges - quarterly, annual, team - I love the quarterly challenges so I hope they don't completely disappear but I complete get only having them on the off quarters from the team challenges because those do take a lot of y'alls time/energy/effort.
Buddy Reads - These have truly helped me pick up specific books I've been putting off so probably one of my favorite aspects to this group.
Group Reads - if it is a book I am interested and/or have access to - granted it hasn't been all that much this year but I think it's mainly because the main genre (if I recall) has been romantasy which I do not read a ton of.

Overall I think I am part of the discord server but I rarely use discord for literally anything so that's not a huge focus for me.

Some threads I would probably participate in a bit more (as far as more interactions/conversations with others) would be:
1. A space to discuss recommendations for specific challenge prompts - I'm guessing we can use the challenge thread for this in general but since many use that for their tracking and updates, it feels weird (to me) to interrupt that flow with other stuff even though it is still related. This could very much just be me being weird lol
2. Monthly wrap up/tbr threads - I think it could be fun to see what people are planning on reading each month (which could drive buddy reads) or what they did complete in a month as far as brief reviews/ratings.

for the 2 team challenges, maybe do them 4 times a year. that's my suggestion. i have participated twice, they are fun.

message 7: by Juliane (new)

Juliane | 346 comments I'm especially fond of the yearly challenge since my time-management somehow works best for that one with choosing between the three different tiers, however the quarterly and especially team challenges are also very enjoyable but sometimes my participation especially for the latter depends on the timing since its a kind of crunch time for reading to help the team. I do think one yearly, two team and 2(to 4 if manageable) quarterly challenges is a rather well-timed system.
Generally I can say that all the prompt-based challenges with different themes have broadened my reading scope since there has been quite a variety of prompts and what they have focused on.

I do in general like the Group Reads however I tend to be limited in participation due to issues of availability e.g. at the library (which is of course way easier with Buddy reads to just move the time-frame for reading), but also there are only so many books of the popular romance-fantasy-mix genre I tend to read plus I find myself unable to start the first part of a new series almost every month.
At the same time I am doubtful that for example splitting up genres for the Group Read would really drive up participation.

I've never really used Discord (since messaging on goodreads seems to currently work relatively bug-free) so I unfortunately cannot comment further on that.

@Brianna

Thank you! We will take that idea for the quarterly's during the off season of team challenges into consideration. I like those thread ideas and will take it to the others. We can also look into more diversity in group read genres. It's a bit tough since we leave it up to member nominations. As of right now, buddy reads aren't changing or going anywhere!

@PrinZessBookDragon

I am glad you enjoy the team games! Team challenges take a lot on our end, and doing a 4 a year wouldn't give us a chance to catch up. We alternate the seasons each year. As mentioned before, we can consider having our quarterly challenges in the off seasons.

@Juliane

I am so glad that you enjoy the yearly challenges and they have broadened your horizon! Availability for new releases or popular reads is reasonable. We will see what we can do for this.

An idea for the Group Reads may not be to have genre options per say but maybe more of splitting it up with the following:
New Release
Backlist
Series

Not that I mean there should be 3 group reads every single month but maybe have the nominations fall into those categories and depending on number votes for each would dictate how many would actually be chosen that month. Let me know if I should expand on what I mean lol

message 10: by Ilsen (new)

Ilsen | 122 comments I participate the most in the quarterly challenges and the yearly challenge. I also love the Buddy Reads too! I will say I love the quarterly challenges most because of the variety of prompts and I like having most of them but yea to space it out because I can’t do challenges all the time. I really like the laidback challenges that doesn’t have a time crunch so I hope we can see more of those type of challenges. I don’t participate in the Group Read because I don’t have the books and if I do, I don’t have the time to read multiple. But I love the group!

message 11: by Sarah-Vanessa (new)

Sarah-Vanessa | 492 comments I totally agree with all of you here…
my highlight definitely is the annual challenge and I love how diverse the different tasks are. It gets me into reading so many different books and genre.
Haven’t participated in the quarterly challenges yet, as I joined October, but will do so next year.
the only task on challenges I don’t like, is the one asking to reread a book. Just because I usually read a book once. I don’t like reading books two times.
Love the buddy reads, group reads and Readathlons, although I‘m not always able to participate because some of the books are not available to me in my Kindle Unlimited or Skoobe App. But I guess that’s fine, I don’t need to be inevery group or buddy read.
In terms of the discord server, I don’t use it.

message 12: by Catsalive (new)

Catsalive | 62 comments I haven't been here long enough to comment from experience but the mix of challenges sounds good - 1 yearly, 4 quarterlies & bi-annual team challenges. I played solo in Fright Night to see how I went - not too bad - & I've done a couple of readathons which are quite relaxing. I'm likely to sign up for the yearly & next quarterly when they show up.

I rarely participate in group reads because I often can't get them from the library or they're YA. I get tired of being asked to read children's books, no matter how well-written they may have been.

I have yet to investigate the Discord server.

Thank you for your suggestion :D
I'm definitively gonna try this, including all three categories because if we chose what category should win for the month we could have the situation of people voting for something and not participating, while maybe someone that would participate doesn't want to because the picked thing isn't something they read... which I see is a big thing why GR threads stay empty.

message 14: by Sarah-Vanessa (new)

Sarah-Vanessa | 492 comments @Mine That’s exactly what I feel happened this month with the group read… There were some accounts I don’t really see actively participating here in the threads and then they voted for the group read and now it’s empty…

Amy Hi!
Could I be removed from the group? Not sure how to do this on my own- I don’t see a leave group option? Thank you!

@Amy
You have been removed from the group as requested. To remove yourself from any group follow the steps below:

~ Go to the group's homepage
~ Under the group description, click the button Edit Membership
~ At the top of that page, it will say how long you have been a member and the amount of comments made in the group. Click the button Leave this group under that sentence
~ You will see a page making sure you want to leave the group, click Leave this group
~ The page will refresh to the groups page of GoodReads and will show you what groups you are in

I hope that was helpful!

As one of the challenge mods would a laid back monthly challenge with an overarching theme interest any of you?

Sounds good.

message 20: by Kalena (new)

Kalena | 31 comments I always love the yearly challenges, and the quarterly challenges to encourage me to read specific types of books! (even if this year was a crazy hectic year for me and I wasn't able to participate). It makes me plan out my reading year a little more as a mood reader and I would love for you to continue those! Even if the quarterly challenges maybe turn into three a year :) so it may be easier
