Ann (annrumsey) | 16958 comments My two five-star books were both short stories this month. The rest were four stars. I read two Annette Dashofy books this month, the group read and the first Zoe Chambers book. I will definitely continue that series.
With the sequel coming out, I finally got around to reading TJ Klune's The House in the Cerulean Sea. I enjoyed it.
James Patterson's collaboration to finish Michael Crichton's Eruption was well done and has stuck with me. I was happy to read the latest Gamache book by Louise Penny, and will keep going with the Slow Horses after reading book three by Mick Herron. While my least favorite book this month, Orbital was poetic and thought-provoking. I guess I like more action in my space novels, and perhaps more sci fi. This one was much more reality based.

Short Stories
Ushers Joe Hill
The Answer Is No Fredrik Backman
Good books
The House in the Cerulean Sea (Cerulean Chronicles, #1) T.J. Klune
Real Tigers (Slough House, #3) Mick Herron
The Raven Thief (Secret Staircase Mystery, #2) Gigi Pandian
Exposure (Rita Todacheene, #2) Ramona Emerson
Keep Your Family Close (Detective Honeywell Mystery #2) Annette Dashofy
Eruption Michael Crichton
Circle of Influence (Zoe Chambers Mysteries, #1) Annette Dashofy
The Grey Wolf (Chief Inspector Armand Gamache, #19) Louise Penny
Drift Rachel Maddow
New York State of Crime: Murder New York Style 6 D.M. Barr
Constituent Service: A Third District Story John Scalzi
Orbital Samantha Harvey

Good to hear about the Crichton collaboration. I was wondering if it would be worth checking out.

Ann (annrumsey) | 16958 comments Christina: I was a bit unsure myself - a good f2f friend had read it and recommended Eruption. The audio had an intro by Michael Crichton's widow and James Patterson talking about the process of pulling together Michael Crichton's notes and research across I think it was decades - it had been a passion project for him, and she was very happy that it was published as a tribute to that work.

Carol/Bonadie (bonadie) | 9502 comments Just finished The Grey Wolf, Ann. I'll review it in my December reads; you can tell me how you liked it then. Louise Penny came to Boston to an event at one of the larger theaters and the book came with. She is such a treat!

Ann (annrumsey) | 16958 comments Carol: Louise Penny came here a few years ago and the event came with the book. I can't off the top of my head remember which one it was it was maybe 2017 or 2018. She is a treat to see in person. I really liked The Grey Wolf. My recollection at the time I read it was that it was so dark in tone that I wished we had more Three Pines characters to lighten the seriousness of the situation.

I remember reading your comment before I started and it made me apprehensive, as Penny can get *very* dark. It wasn't as bad as I anticipated although you are right, a lack of the amusing characters of Three Pines means there are serious and dire things afoot.

Donnajo | 4354 comments Looks like a great list of books. I've been thinking of reading the the first TJ Klune's book. I've had it from library once took it back unread and I have it on wish list for audio. Should I do it?
I need to see if the library has the 2nd Dashofy book I liked the first one. Also, Louise Penny's first book in series will be on my list to push to read in 2025 maybe, LOL? (I do own the mass market pb)

Ann (annrumsey) | 16958 comments DJ definitely read the TJ Kline and the Three Pines books. Both are very good! As for the Dashify books, Kindle format be your best bet. I got the second one for $2.99 I think.
