So, who is going to read it this month? Which time is this for you?

Please, put any spoiler in the spoiler brackets.

sabagrey | 381 comments Always a pleasure to re-read Black Sheep.

Emmy B. | 151 comments I’m reading! Not sure about the amount of times I re-read, re-listened or re-skimmed but it’s a favourite for sure!

Barb in Maryland | 817 comments One of my all-time GH favorites. I'm hoping to get to it later this week. I have no idea how many times I've read it. But the first time was way back in 1968 (June 27, to be exact. Yes, I have book logs stretching back that far). It was from the library.
Here's the cover of my first paperback copy (that I re-read to the point it fell apart):
Black Sheep by Georgette Heyer

sabagrey | 381 comments This time round I happen to be a little disappointed in Abby. (view spoiler)

Susan in NC (susanncreader) | 4144 comments I’ve read it several times, have started with the audiobook while knitting, and have a car trip next week, I’ll bring along my paperback Black Sheep by Georgette Heyer . It’s long been a favorite!

I agree, Sabagrey, but at least Abby was smart enough to minimize her reaction! I think she was surprised at the vehemence of the young Juliet’s swoony declaration of luuuurrrve, had to think fast, was a bit flummoxed, as she didn’t realize her niece was already so far gone…I just read the scene last night where Abby is in her room, just home, and sees her niece for the first time, can gauge her feelings.

Misti (mistify) | 52 comments I totally forgot it was the book for this month and just last week re-read all my favorite parts. So I doubt I'll be re-reading the whole thing, but we'll see. Looking forward to reading everyone's thoughts. It's one of my favorites for sure!

Nick Imrie (nickimrie) | 479 comments I love Black Sheep - I think my favourite kind of Heyer couple is the intelligent outsiders who find they can laugh together.

Teri-K | 159 comments I like this one a lot, I know I've read it several times. I'll probably start it in the next week or so. It's a quick read, the characters are so fun!

Hear, hear!

Teresa | 2188 comments I started it yesterday and I'm nearly finished. This is a huge favourite of mine. I love Miles! I think he's a fantastic character and he's so funny with the things he comes out with.

I think Abbey did all she could with Fanny to make her see the light. It needed someone else to step in.

QNPoohBear | 1639 comments This is one of my favorites! Last reread had it bumped up ahead of Frederica for tied favorite. Black Sheep is so very Austenesque with the Bath setting and some phrases misquoted from Austen. The meet cute is hysterically funny and Abby is a sensible heroine. I quite like Miles and I think he's more of a rogue than a black sheep.

I should reread this. My oldest niece is now Fanny's age and in love for the first time.

Jackie | 1730 comments I have decided not to re-read now, but am following along with your comments. (I have read the romances that I like too many times in the past 4 years and I need a break.)

But I really LOVE the meet-cute and more than anything the scene (view spoiler)

Yes that's a great scene! There's another scene I love too, I wanted to include it here but can't remember how to do spoilers!! If anyone can help I'd be grateful!

Barb in Maryland | 817 comments Teresa --right above the comment box are two links--one says 'add book/author' and the other says '(some html is okay)'. Click the link about html and then scroll down until you find the word 'spoiler'. It's near the bottom of the list. Follow the directions.

Hope that helps.

I agree. I was thinking that he's self-centered and manipulative enough that he assumes other people behave like him - at least other men in his position, which he thinks his Uncle is.

As to Abby's needing help with Fanny - I don't know what else she could have done. She knows she can't afford to alienate her, and Fanny is (view spoiler)

On another front - I'm not sure what constitutes spoilers for this conversation, please let me know if I trespass the groups norms here.

Barb you're a star!! Thanks so much. I've got it now.

I love her books that make me laugh out loud! I find the meeting at the beginning between Abbey and Miles, hilarious!!!

Good question.

I followed the instruction in post #1 to use spoiler tags - but should this be the norm for group read threads as of now? Commenting and replying is only half the fun if you constantly have to be careful of spoilers.

The most recent method was to have two threads - one for the first half of the book, and one for the book as a whole - where the corresponding spoilers were admissible. That worked ok, did it not?

Teresa | 2188 comments It did work well and I agree it's annoying having to put spoilers in all the time. But if it wasn't for Mela we wouldn't even have this thread. I gather the header can't be changed either.

Susan in NC (susanncreader) | 4144 comments I assume a moderator sets these things up? Jenny, if you see this, could you set up a spoiler thread?

Big Fan has added such a thread.

Susan in NC (susanncreader) | 4144 comments Oh, are they a new member ? Sorry, not good with keeping up with introductions thread. Hi, Big Fan, and welcome! Thanks for setting up:the thread, I’m afraid our mod is missing in action, Mela has kindly stepped into the breach. I hope Jenny is ok!
