Hey all! Hopefully none of the moderators have a problem with us doing buddy reads for the Orphan X series over on N&D.
Terry and I kept running into spoilers from the last group that we were participating in and it was getting ridiculous.

If anyone would like to join this buddy read or upcoming buddy reads for this series, please do.

Thanks for setting this up Ginger! I got started but didn’t get far before falling asleep both of the last two nights 😂. Hoping for better tonight.

I loved that part! I was so (view spoiler)[happy to see him thriving in this book and then be able to socially read that Max needed help. I loved that.
I’ve also grown attached to Max too. Poor guy! He needs a do-over in life. (hide spoiler)]

And glad this buddy read spot ended up working! It made sense to put it under thrillers. 🤷🏼‍♀️😂

I’m only up to ch 15 so far (about 100pgs), and this one is a little slower to hit the super action than the others it feels - not in a bad way though.

These books are so easy to read, even more so than the P&C books.

Yeah, this one took some time to get into the plot which is okay. Like you said, they are super easy to read! I love these books.

I’m up to Chapter 26. The action starts happening and it’s getting good.
Chapter 20 - (view spoiler)[Finding him in a dog fight was crazy intense and then he rescues the bait dog?!!
I use to have a mixed Rhodesian Ridgeback and I was livid when this part happened!! I’m glad he killed all the dudes that own this dog fighting ring. 🤷🏼‍♀️😂🤣 (hide spoiler)]

Good to hear! In ch 15 (view spoiler)[ Evan dislocating the bad guys elbow in just such a specific way that he’s able to trace the guy later through the medical system is such a clever idea. I am impressed with that - of course, I may be easily impressed…🤷🏻‍♂️ (hide spoiler)]

Boy does the action pick up! Love it. And the part in ch20 (view spoiler)[ where he saves the dog is awesome and made me so happy, and I knew he was going to do it. And, it was the dog that led the bad guys to him, just luck (or really extra planning on his part with the modification to the car panels I guess) that he survived. So good! (hide spoiler)]

I’m up to ch 28 now. (view spoiler)[ I really like the formula we have in these books of seeing Evan finding out his next mission, learning it’s bigger than he thinks at first, seeing him visit Tommy for new weapons, and then re-engaging with renewed purpose, all while another more personal side story is going on. For some reason, they have become comforting reads, which is great! (hide spoiler)]

Yes! I feel the same. I think it has to do (view spoiler)[with caring about all of the reoccurring characters. Even the HOA condo owners are becoming a staple in this series.
I love how Tommy, Joey and others are becoming so important in this series. I love when these characters show up! (hide spoiler)]

I knew that he was going to end up taking (view spoiler)[that dog too! I’m waiting for Joey to fall in love with Dog and I feel like it’s going to happen eventually. She’s got a hard exterior and a dog will be the perfect antidote of non-conditional love that she needs. (hide spoiler)]

I’m up to Chapter 33 and I’m so nervous. (view spoiler)[There’s got to be more bad players in this book and Evan should have trusted that grin from Petro. I wonder if the cops are involved and if so, Max is in danger!! (hide spoiler)]. 🤬

So, he used the term un-assed again in ch 30, 😂. That’s great!

Man, one of the most powerful scenes for me is at the end of ch33 (view spoiler)[ when Evan is just left standing there after his argument with Mia about Ida, and he’s left staring at his shadow on the wall while it is staring back at him. Terrific imagery for who and what he is. Loved it! (hide spoiler)]

I loved that too. The imagery of (view spoiler)[of his lone shadow on the wall after that conversation with Mia was a great chapter and moment! (hide spoiler)]

I got to the beginning of chapter 41 last night. (view spoiler)[I just knew those cops were involved and how Evan got Max out was epic!! There was too much still in the book for it just to be over with Petro.
This book has gotten WILD and I just don't know how he's going to get into Twin Tower and get to Bedrosov! (hide spoiler)]

Each book is just as good as the last. The action and plot are so great. It's really hard to put these books down. LMAO

I got to the same point this morning. I thought the same thing about having half the book still to go. Not sure where it might go from here.

I made it to ch49 this morning. Holy hell! (view spoiler)[ I love it that Evan is a badass! I just wanted the whole prison scenario to work out, and it did flawlessly- and he had it all planned (well improvised weapon and distraction, but overall and the escape was planned.) These books are so good!
And now, a pardon from the president?? We knew he’d get dragged back in, and I’m super curious where it goes now.
And oh yeah, another terrific character in these stories - Vera II! I loved how Evan was interacting with the plant when he was skeptical of the call. (hide spoiler)]

Yes! This is how I felt after the (view spoiler)[Twin Tower and how it ended up all working out. Evan taking on Teardrop's identity, start a prison riot and then get to Bedrosov to kill him. Perfect!

Everything in these prison chapters had me so tense and worried.
As to his concussion. I'm worried about his head! I feel for football players now after reading all of this. LOL (hide spoiler)]

I meant to get back to you yesterday but work had to work. Man, I'm glad it's Friday. I'm so burnt I'm crispy at this point. hahaha

I'm hoping to finish this tonight or in the morning. I got to Chapter 58 last night and I'm almost done. This book has been awesome!

Sorry about the work, Ginger! I had to take some days off or I lose them at year end, so I’m off today and next week. Of course, work is still going on and I had stuff I had to answer, but at least I’m home, lol. I hope you have a good relaxing weekend!

I agree about the (view spoiler)[ concussion stuff. That is not to be messed with. A few weeks ago, my youngest son got hit in the face with a rubber ball at school during his history class (he said they were doing a reenactment, which is kinda cool). He was having concussion symptoms so we had to go get him and bring him home. He wasn’t allowed to even participate in a band concert until we got him cleared by a doctor in the concussion unit at a medical facility in Lawrence Ks (associated with KU). They took it seriously, which was good. (hide spoiler)]

I ended up finishing today. Loved it! I’ll wait for you to finish before I say anything.

I ended up getting one myself earlier this year at the dog park when my dog and another one ran straight into me from behind (couldn’t see them) and completely took me off my feet. I not only bruised my tailbone but got a mild concussion.

The next day I was dizzy, nauseous and ended up puking! It’s not a fun feeling so I really got (view spoiler)[this whole plot theme in the book with Evan! (hide spoiler)] 😂🤣

What an ending!! (view spoiler)[The fact that Max and Violet got back together made me so happy.
And Mia now really sees Evan. When she said that to him, I thought that was super powerful.
I was shocked at the plot twist when her and Peter ended up being part of Plan B. That was wild and crazy at the end.
Evan is just killing guys while she’s running towards the van?! Felt like I was in a badass movie when that was going down. 😂

It seems weird that he’s retired though and then getting a call from his Mom?! Do you think Jack found his Mom before he died and gave her the number? (hide spoiler)]

So excited to read the next book after that cliff hanger!

I agree about that ending! (view spoiler)[ I had tears in my eyes at a couple of the points there. The way everything resolved just all felt right and exactly the way I was hoping it would go. The part with him taking out the bad guys as Mia was running to get Peter - chef’s kiss!! And her reaction made me so happy.

I really enjoyed this one. And you’re right about the cliffhanger! His mom?! Where will that go?! I’m excited for the next one too. Do you want to wait for Jan to start, or just jump in now? Or should we squeeze something else in? (hide spoiler)]

It's totally up to you but I'm game!! I can start the next book in about a week or we can wait until the timeline works you?

I just finished up 5.5 in the series with Joey called The List. I liked this one too and love what Hurwitz does with the relationship with Evan and Joey.

What do you want to do? I'll have to read one other book while I'm reading Prodigal Son but it works for me.
I'm finally going to have time off from work starting on Friday (THANK GOD...sorry that I'm screaming...LOL!) so I'll definitely be able to get in multiple books to read before the end of the year.

Just now seeing this but you never have to worry about any of that over here in this group. You are always welcome to run whatever kind of buddy read you want. :)

We the mods don't get the notifications like we once did for stuff going on in the group that is why I am just now seeing this post.

Cool that you and Terry had a good time with this series. I will need to check it out at some point. I am not reading anything on this thread either with spoilers. :)

Thanks Marie! I’m glad we can use this site for buddy reads for this type of genre. Usually when it’s horror or fantasy, there’s tons of options.

The notifications on Goodreads is terrible. I don’t understand why they keep “fixing” things. I think they just make it worse. 🤷🏼‍♀️😂🤣

I think you should check out this series. I love it and it’s got so much action, with great plots and characters. I’m so happy that I finally started it last year!
