Joy D | 10106 comments Time of the Child by Niall Williams - 5* - My Review

Beautifully written novel about love set during the days leading up to Christmas 1962 in a rural community in Ireland. Doctor Jack Troy lives with his twenty-nine-year-old eldest daughter, Ronnie. When a baby is left at the fair, a young man brings it to the doctor, and events are set in motion. The town and its residents are skillfully drawn. Themes include parent-child relationships, compassion, regret, aging, and death. It is a perfect read for the holiday season. It is truly a wonderful story with wide appeal. It will make my short list of favorites of the year.

Holly R W | 3120 comments I'm eagerly awaiting this one from the library. So glad you enjoyed it, Joy! It sounds perfect for the season.

Joy D | 10106 comments I think you will enjoy it, Holly. It's just a gorgeous book which is positive overall without being saccharine. I did not want to give away anything in my review, but there are several people in the town experiencing crises, so it's not all about the child, but the child (and the child's impact on others) is the main focus.

NancyJ (nancyjjj) | 11080 comments Oh this sounds great! I have several of his books on my TBR for next year. I haven’t read his other book(s) set in Faha yet. Could I read this first?

Two of my favorites last December were A Highland Christmas and A Redbird Christmas. I was hoping to find more like these.

I haven't read This Is Happiness yet, either, which is the first Faha book, so I'm going to say yes, I didn't have any trouble following the story or relating to the characters. I think you'll enjoy this one.

Great. I put in a purchase suggestion and I’ve been checking every 20 minutes since. Lol

Maybe tomorrow. I hate when I suggest something, and 3 other people put a hold on it before I see that it’s online.
