Carolyn | 2081 comments My short review for Eleven Numbers by Lee Child Eleven Numbers by Lee Child, a short but satisfying short story about a mathematician who gets into trouble while attending a conference in Russia.

PattyMacDotComma | 813 comments Not a mystery as such, but I thought it might interest some.

Invisible Boys by Aussie author Holden Sheppard has been made into a TV series just starting on STAN, an Aussie streaming service. #LGBTQI

I don't know how closely it will stick to the original storyline in Geraldton WA, but it will no doubt highlight the trials of growing up gay, especially in small communities, far from the Big Smoke. This is a bookcover for the series.

PattyMacDotComma | 813 comments I was recently tickled to discover how entertaining A Man With One of Those Faces is. It's the first book in Caimh McDonnell's Dublin Trilogy, which is now 8 books long! I'd heard it was fun, but I'd feared it was just hype.

Carolyn | 2081 comments The Girls of Good Fortune by Kristina McMorris The Girls of Good Fortune by Kristina McMorris is the tale of a mixed race Chinese American woman living in Portland, Oregon in the 1880s. It was a bit slow and predictable for me initially but picked up around the middle and I found the MC's adventures and the historical depictions of life there interesting.

Carolyn | 2081 comments A Dead Draw (Tracy Crosswhite, #11) by Robert Dugoni A Dead Draw by Robert Dugoni #11 in his Tracy Crosswhite series takes us back to the start of the series to the event that drove her to become a detective. Perhaps not the best book of the series, having a slower build up, but an important addition to Tracy's ongoing story which fans of the series will enjoy.

Carolyn | 2081 comments Wild Dark Shore by Charlotte McConaghy Wild Dark Shore by AA Charlotte McConaghy is destined to be one of my favourite books this year. Set on a ruggedly beautiful isolated island midway between Tasmania and Antarctica, it is a gripping tale of the family who have been its caretakers for the last eight years, but are now preparing to leave as climate change threatens to engulf it. A mystery woman washes up on the shore has come looking for answers to secrets that they are hiding from her.

PattyMacDotComma | 813 comments Kate Atkinson is a favourite author and I love her Jackson Brodie series. In the latest, Death at the Sign of the Rook, I was surprised the focus was mainly on the strange, gathered assemblage, with much less on Jackson and Reggie (yes, she's back!) whom I really wanted to read about.

Carolyn | 2081 comments Platform Seven by Louise Doughty Platform Seven by Louise Doughty is a different type of mystery, narrated in part by a ghost and by a woman being slowly subjected to gaslighting by her controlling partner.

PattyMacDotComma | 813 comments Regency England is often depicted as romantically glamorous, but Viscount Sebastian St Cyr's investigation of shadowy murders and his wife Hero's research into the abject poverty of the time, show a very different picture. C.S. Harris writes THE best historical mysteries. Who Speaks for the Damned is terrific.

PattyMacDotComma | 813 comments I was caught offguard by this surprising little short story, The Curfew Tolls by Stephen Vincent Benét. It's available free online, and I've included the link in my review. It's a quick read - give it a go. 😊
