Rosh ~catching up slowly~ (roshreviews) | 712 comments Two middle-grade books. One a hit, the other more mixed.

1. The Appletree Animal Agency by Katya Balen
The Appletree Animal Agency (Appletree Animal Agency, #1) by Katya Balen
This author rarely disappoints me! This is a fabulous option for animal-loving kiddos. First of a series.

2. A Song for You and I by K. O'Neill
A Song for You and I by K. O'Neill
A middle-grade graphic novel that means wells but leaves many things unsaid. Mine is an outlier review for this.

Sarah | 1543 comments Here's my review of You Are Here by David Nicholls, a "bushwalking romance" that I was absolutely loving up until about the 80% point, but that ultimately I felt fell a bit flat (unlike the landscape that the characters were traversing!).

Sarah | 1543 comments Here's my review of The Memory of Animals by Costa Award-winning author Claire Fuller. It's a dystopian read, following the experiences of a woman who volunteers to be a vaccine test subject during a pandemic. Remarkably, Fuller had already completed a third of the book prior to 2020 when, as she puts it "reality caught up with fiction...".

Carolyn | 9840 comments I overdosed on WW2 novels recently, but am really glad I read Natasha Lester's The Mademoiselle Alliance by Natasha Lester The Mademoiselle Alliance, a brilliant account of Marie Madeleine Fourcade, an amazing woman, who was the leader of the Alliance intelligence network in France during WW2. I can't believe I've never heard of her before.

One of the most complex and cleverest suspense stories I have read recently, with multiple characters and subplots. despite a few writing issues, I quite enjoyed this indie novel.

In this episode Bruno, Chief of Police is approached by a wealthy Jewish woman who wants to make a bequest to honour those who sheltered Jewish children during WW2. At the same time he has to deal with Jihadis looking for a defector they intend to kill.

PattyMacDotComma | 3299 comments Irish author Jess Kidd's new novel, Murder at Gulls Nest, is the first of what I bet will be a popular new cosy mystery series. Former nun Nora Breen is exasperatingly 'helpful' to a local detective. 😊

PattyMacDotComma | 3299 comments The Third Man is the classic Graham Greene post WW2 mystery set in occupied Vienna. It has been produced in many formats, text, script, film, and this fully dramatised version I refer to as a radio play. So good!
