PattyMacDotComma | 3299 comments I enjoy this popular series. What with his love of fine food, wines, and ladies, Martin Walker's Bruno, Chief of Police may sound like a gentle village 'flic', but he fought in Bosnia and is a match for anyone. The Crowded Grave is the fourth book.

The Keeper of Lonely Spirits by E.M. Anderson
A horror-fantasy that would have worked even better for me if it had dialled down the romantic blushes.

PattyMacDotComma | 3299 comments If you enjoy particularly well-written short stories, I recommend Island: The Complete Stories by the late Canadian author Alistair MacLeod.

I've noticed him mentioned by other authors as a master of the craft, and they're right. Cape Breton, Nova Scotia was a harsh place to grow up, but my goodness, it is wonderful to read about.

I may read them again.

Spinning Briar (The Mirror Chronicles #2) by Rachel Huffmire
The second book of the Mirror Chronicles series and almost as good. This is an amazing indie YA SciFi-Fantasy series.
