I'm often wary of Pulitzer Prize winners, but I was absolutely swept along with Larry McMurtry's eccentric characters on their cattle drive from Lonesome Dove, Texas, to Montana. I've loved 'cowboy' stories since I was a little girl, so this was a real treat. The audio was also terrific.

The second book in Chronicles of a Lizard Nobody series by Patrick Ness, The Hat of Great Importance has a quirky cast and a crazy plot. White Bird: A Wonder Story by R.J. Palacio
Anyone who feels that graphic novels are just comical entertainment for kids should get their hands on this. A brilliant part of the 'Wonder' book family, but can be read as a standalone/

Popular Aussie author Michael Robotham doesn't write Aussie mysteries (yet...) and he doesn't write cosies, either. But he does write some great English thrillers about people I've grown fond of. Close Your Eyes is the next-to-the-last in this series, and I'm not at all happy about where he's left Professor Joe O'Loughlin this time.

I can just see the classroom that would have loved helping to put this together. Holes in My Underwear: Over 100 Poems That Will Knock Your Socks Off by their teacher Matthew Eicheldinger is an entertaining collection for kids that I hope might encourage others to dabble at poetry themselves.
