Carolyn | 9840 comments The Nanny's Handbook to Magic and Managing Difficult Dukes by Amy Rose Bennett The Nanny's Handbook to Magic and Managing Difficult Dukes by Amy Rose Bennett had too much romance and not enough magic for me (but that's just me - readers of historical romance seem to disagree!)

PattyMacDotComma | 3299 comments Turkish author Elif Shafak has interested me for a while, and I finally read her The Island of Missing Trees. I've heard her interviewed and read glowing reviews of her work, so I expected to love this. Instead, I only liked it - but I liked it enough I may read another.

Marianne (cloggiedownunder) | 9976 comments Felt very lucky to get an early read of the next book in Mick Herron's Slough House series, Clown Town, and only disappointed to reach the end. Still, I'll have Sean Barrett's audio to look forward to. 5★s

Marianne (cloggiedownunder) | 9976 comments Whether recent, or from his backlist, anything by Mick Herron stands up well to a reread, and Down Cemetery Road, the first book in his Zoe Boehm/Sarah Tucker series, is no exception. Alix Dunmore's narration is spot on. 5★s

Marianne (cloggiedownunder) | 9976 comments When Dervla McTiernan gives her fans a freebie novella, The Fireground, they get a lot, lot more than they pay for! 5★s

An urban fantasy possible better for older YA/NA readers.

Marianne (cloggiedownunder) | 9976 comments The 2nd book in Amanda Ashby's Widows Detective Club series, The Widows’ Guide to Backstabbing wasn't quite as good as the first. High hopes for #3. 3★s

Time of the Child by Niall Williams
Almost similar to its companion novel "This is Happiness", but the effect was even more meandering this time around. Still, a great option for prose lovers.

Carolyn | 9840 comments The Last Witch by C.J. Cooke The Last Witch by C. J. Cooke is a dark and chilling novel about the Innsbrook witch trials of the 1850s and an excellent read if you enjoy fiction based on real people and events.

The Whispers by Ashley Audrain
A domestic drama. Not as good as the author's debut work, but a good (dark) entertainer.
