Partially a case of "it's not you, it's me.' Never thought a book with such a cover would be so disturbing.

Carolyn | 9840 comments A Shooting at Chateau Rock: The Dordogne Mysteries 13 by Martin Walker was another exciting addition to this series set in the Dordogne, this time featuring an aging rock star, a Russian oligarch and a dodgy insurance company.

The author is very talented, but this isn't her best work, IMHO.

She soon discovers the high profile family is not only isolated but damaged by their fame and tight management.

PattyMacDotComma | 3299 comments Michael Robotham wrote When You Are Mine as a standalone, I believe, about young Philomena McCarthy, who loves her London police career, but she also loves her gangster father and uncles. What's a girl to do? She's a great character, and I'm delighted to say book #2 is out now, too!

I'd been looking forward to reading the translation of this Tamil writer's work, but it turned out too meandering for my taste.

PattyMacDotComma | 3299 comments I just finished Empire Falls and loved it, but I must admit to being partial to Richard Russo already. I have read and enjoyed the "Fool" series and a couple of others.

While I think the complicated webs woven in 'community' stories are universal, he captures a tone that feels particular to a small-town America that's been disappearing.
