PattyMacDotComma | 3299 comments Peter Carey is an interesting, award-winning (lots of awards) Aussie author who lives in New York but writes about his homeland. I'm a fan.

I have wanted to read Oscar and Lucinda for years because it sounded great - historical fiction, a pair of odd-bods, and a wild plot. Plus it won the 1988 Booker Prize and the 1989 Miles Franklin (Australia's most prestigious literary award), and I'm trying to read some awarded books. I'm happy I've done so, though this isn't my favourite Carey.

PattyMacDotComma | 3299 comments On the other hand, I read A River Runs Through It and Other Stories by Norman Maclean and completely understand why it is often referred to as an American classic despite not winning a bunch of awards. Just stunning, and the lengthy foreword by Annie Proulx for the 25th anniversary edition is excellent.

What Does It Feel Like? by Sophie Kinsella
4 stars
Deeply personal and disarmingly honest mirroring her own life

Hello Stranger by Katherine Center
Started off well, but the final quarter was OTT. Still, an entertaining novel for the most part.
