I will check to see what I have that we can use, but it will probably be a day or two; wrapping up (I hope) some craziness at work.

message 104: by RachelG. (last edited Mar 09, 2025 09:18AM) (new)

RachelG. | 318 comments Well, it's another freaky Friday and after spending time at the local tavern in A Town Called Treachery we need to get ourselves straightened out.

Fi, our Druid, has disappeared. What is that voice I hear? It looks like it is coming from some beans on the table. Cat, in Angie's form, grabs the beans and puts them in her pouch. Before trying to sort out Fi, our adventurers need to fix themselves.

Looking for The Clue in the Diary given to Cat by the Assistant to the Villain it appears that we need to find a fairy to help us out. We find one through Emily Wilde's Encyclopaedia of Faeries who is from the Guardians of the West. This fairy is able to say the spell which put us back into our normal bodies. Who knew that a nursery rhyme (One, Two, Buckle My Shoe) was a powerful spell.

Next we can turn to Fi and the beans. We decide to plant the magic beans under The Frangipani Tree which will help protect them giving shade and oxygen. Luckily this tree is near the Ripples and Waves of Mirror Lake with magical healing waters. The area is known to be On the Savage Side and Cold as Hell in the Dead of Winter so we are happy it's spring. Rachel's dog is guarding the beans while they grow and so our group can find The Unlikely Heir who is in The Knitting Club at Wagtail Ridge. The club is going to knit a new body for Fi so she can be able To Slip the Bonds of Earth and be Free as a Bird.

The club is able to complete a new body for Fi in One Day and so our group goes back to the Frangipani tree to find the dog now guarding a green skeleton. The Skeleton Takes a Bow and after Two Steps Onward the group reaches Fi the skeleton with her new skin. Fi slips on the new skin and although we will never know the Enchanters' End Game at least we are all back to normal.

Not sure, but I can add it. It all has to go in one cell.

Thanks! I might play around with it on one of my own google sheets to see how to do it for the future. I am not very good with spreadsheets.

Angie ☯ | 3500 comments Mod
It was something with the formatting on that sheet. I couldn't get it to work, so I copied the story from the prior quest and pasted it in the current quest sheet - then copied yours over it. That worked! We still have to make the titles bold individually. I can't find a way to keep that formatting in tact.

message 113: by Angie ☯ (new)

Angie ☯ | 3500 comments Mod
I had formatted the cell to wrap the text that was entered, but it wasn't working for some reason. Sometimes you just have to trick it!

message 114: by RachelG. (new)

RachelG. | 318 comments I tried to simply copy and paste and it moved into a lower section and just didn't look right. I will have to remember for the future. Thanks again!

We are in the same boat! I meant to do it when I added the story to the SS and forgot! Then forgot to say I checked us in when I finally did it!!

Quest 2A
You really shouldn’t trust fairies and now the three of you that she “helped” have wings. The skeleton is not actually Fi. It is a thrall. You planted the beans under the frangipani tree and her body did get absorbed but not into the skeleton. It absorbed into a worm that came out from under the tree. So now Fi really is a turned worm! Do you try to find the Seelie Summer court? Do you try to find Kyuss?

Seelie Summer Court
Read a book with a fey character
Read a book set in summer
Read a book with a fairy on the cover
Read a book with all the letters of SEELIE in the title

Find Kyuss
Read a book with the word WORM in the text
Read a book with a wicked character
Read a book where someone is exiled
Read a book with a powerful, magical item

message 118: by Catsalive (new)

Catsalive | 1475 comments Seelie Court or Kyuss? Decisions, decisions.

message 119: by RachelG. (last edited Mar 14, 2025 07:01PM) (new)

RachelG. | 318 comments I looked up Kyuss. Also knows as The Worm that Walks, it was a 30 feet (9.1 meters) tall giant composed of a shifting mass of maggots and worms filled with the psychic imprint of a former demigod named Kyuss.

I think I am going to vote for Kyuss, but I'm happy to go with the majority.

message 120: by Catsalive (new)

Catsalive | 1475 comments I do think we should rescue Fi, so I suppose we should head to Kyuss & recue her.

message 129: by RachelG. (new)

RachelG. | 318 comments If it's okay with you all I would like to read for magical item as that's the first book that arrived from the library.

@Cat- If you are reading The Folklore of Discworld for Oregon Trail I know it has "worm" in the text.

Catsalive - do you have a preference on the last two tasks?

Going by the definition of wicked (intended to or capable of harming someone or something.), the bad guy in Kindred in Death would work for a wicked character.

If you were going to do the "worm" task, no worries! I was just checking to see which task I should do.

message 132: by Angie ☯ (new)

Angie ☯ | 3500 comments Mod
Oh yay! The book I just finished works for both tasks! Lol

message 133: by Angie ☯ (new)

Angie ☯ | 3500 comments Mod
Pretty sure we don't need a story for this quest; it isn't asked for in the Quest description and isn't on the SS. (plus I stalked a few others ss to check.....lol)

I will list my book for worm and move Cat's to wicked - BUT, we can move these around if you'd rather!

message 134: by Catsalive (last edited Mar 22, 2025 12:46PM) (new)

Catsalive | 1475 comments No, I hadn't chosen any tasks, so that sounds good to me. The killer in Kindred is very wicked.

I did wonder why there wasn't the story option under the tasks 😃

Quest 2B
You found Kyuss, but he has sent you on a quest to find the Apostolic Scrolls of Kyuss. You may choose to search for the scrolls or go to the Seelie Summer Court to see if you fare better there.

Find the Apostolic Scrolls of Kyuss:

Scroll 1: The Scroll of Fertile Rot (Animates all corpses in a 300 ft radius as Wormspawn)
Read a book with all the letters of FERTILE in the title
Read a book tagged zombies
Read a book with the word ROT in the text
Read a book with a minimum of 300 pages

Scroll 2: The Scroll of Endless Murmurs (Hear the thoughts of the dead – whether they speak or not)
Read a book with a dead character
Read a book with a character who has a special ability (your interpretation)
Read a book with ENDLESS intact in the title/subtitle/series
Read a book with the word murmurs in the text

Scroll 3: The Scroll of the Blooming Maw (Vines and flora grow rapidly – but are sentient and carnivorous)
Read a book with vines on the cover
Read a book with a carnivorous creature
Read a book with something sentient that is not typically sentient
Read a book with something blooming on the cover

Scroll 4: The Scroll of Shattered Suns (Radiance becomes decay. Healing magic within 100ft becomes necrotic)
Read a book with something that is decaying (your interpretation)
Read a book of around 100 pages (but no more than 150 pages)
Read a book with all of the letters of NECROTIC in the title/series

Read a book with a prophet
Read a book with a pale character
Read a book set in the past

Read a book with a celestial eclipse or celestial object (may be on cover or in story)
Read a book with the word FINAL intact in the title

Go to the Seelie Summer Court
Read a book with a fey character
Read a book set in summer

message 140: by Catsalive (new)

Catsalive | 1475 comments Are we still trying to save Fi? Are we going to look for those scrolls? I daresay heading to the Seelie Court will garner us a bunch of tasks too. I'm good either way but heading to Seelie might be false economy.

message 141: by Fi (new)

Fi | 77 comments LOL if it takes that many tasks to save me maybe just let me go. Goodbye cruel world I guess 😂😭

No, but Catsalive has a great point. There's nothing to say we won't do the Seelie tasks, get to the seelie court and get hit with enough tasks to last us until christmas. Those fae are tricky. lol

ButI'm very ok with either :)

message 142: by RachelG. (last edited Apr 07, 2025 09:45AM) (new)

RachelG. | 318 comments I'm fine either way. I agree that both paths could be long but it would be nice to get Fi in one piece.

message 143: by RachelG. (new)

RachelG. | 318 comments As I gather books for a carnival spell-out I figured I might want to loop back here and see if we have decided which path to take.

It appears that if we want to go the scrolls route we need 7 books a piece, unless I'm reading it wrong. I would think that if we go the fey route we may get tasks after that as well.

message 144: by Angie ☯ (new)

Angie ☯ | 3500 comments Mod
I agree; I think both will have a path. I'm good with staying with Kyuss, if everyone else is.

RachelG. | 318 comments This is more of a note to myself than anything, but I finished The Nightingale Before Christmas and it fits: Fertile in title, Choir in book and something shattered on cover.
