Isn't fairy on the cover a task for the seelie court path that we're not doing?

Adding the announcement from Donna here:

You may use any tool at your disposal to help you with the story task. I know some of you are struggling with these. Because of that, I am limiting the story tasks to the opening of each quest. After that you will be assigned tasks until the start of the next quest. So 2A, 2B, 2C, 2D, etc will have specific tasks assigned.

Some teams are using chatgpt to assist with their stories. I am allowing this. This is not supposed to be stressful. Enjoy the adventure. I am starting to level some people up so you will see that soon as well. This will give you some new abilities to use as well.

I enjoyed coming up with the stories! Lol - I guess I'm weird...well I know that I am!! 🤣

Let's see what we can do to level up!

I read for the "FINAL" in title task earlier but forgot to add it to the spreadsheet. That is there now.

I took out last task and will have it completed by Wednesday, because I need it for another April challenge. BUT, if anyone has something and finishes first - take the task!!

Can't wait to see what becomes of our adventure next!!>

Your stories have been top notch. Some others teams have been struggling and needed some help. I saw one team using chatgpt and decided not to stop them. I decided that the struggling teams needed the assist and instead offered it to them. LOL!

Quest 2C
Well, you got the scrolls, but now you have a choice to make. There are 3 paths that you could take. Each one could be potentially dangerous. You will need to consider your options carefully. Good luck!

Path 1. Stop the Scrolls from Being Activated
Task 1: Find a hidden relic or artifact that can absorb magical energy to prevent the scrolls from being activated.

Read a book about an artifact that absorbs magic.

Read a book where magic is sealed or contained.

Read a book with a character who hunts magical objects.

Read a book about an ancient curse that requires breaking.

Task 2: Track down an order of magical scholars who know how to destroy the scrolls.

Read a book about a scholarly organization.

Read a book with a character studying forbidden knowledge.

Read a book about an ancient, secretive order.

Read a book with a traitor or betrayal within a group.

Task 3: Perform a ritual to undo the magic in the scrolls (may involve sacrificing something or someone).

Read a book with a ritual of magic or sacrifice.

Read a book with the word “undo” in the text.

Read a book where a sacrifice is made for the greater good.

Read a book about a powerful being who can reverse or banish magic.

Path 2. Use the Scrolls for Their Own Purposes (Dark Power, Unintended Consequences)
Task 1: Unlock the full power of the Scroll of Fertile Rot, creating an army of Wormspawn.

Read a book where a character raises or controls undead.

Read a book with the word “decay” or “rotting” in the text.

Read a book with a dark, necrotic power as the central theme.

Read a book about a character who seeks forbidden power.

Task 2: Use the Scroll of the Blooming Maw to summon sentient, carnivorous vines to aid in battle or take control.

Read a book with sentient plants or creatures.

Read a book where the antagonist manipulates nature or the environment.

Read a book about controlling or summoning dangerous creatures.

Read a book with a central theme of nature vs. mankind.

Task 3: Unlock the Scroll of the Pale Prophet to glimpse the future or prevent their inevitable doom.

Read a book with a character who can foresee the future.

Read a book where someone has a vision of their own demise.

Read a book with a “prophet” or “seer” in the title.

Read a book where fate or destiny plays a central role.

Path 3. Face Kyuss as He Begins to Rise
Task 1: Confront the followers of Kyuss, who are gathering to unleash his full power.

Read a book with a cult that worships a dark deity.

Read a book with a battle against overwhelming odds.

Read a book with the word “apocalypse” or “end of the world” in the title.

Read a book where a faction plans to awaken or summon a powerful evil entity.

Task 2: Track down Kyuss himself, gathering information on his weaknesses or sealed vulnerabilities.

Read a book with a fallen deity or dark power.

Read a book with a character searching for a dangerous foe.

Read a book where a deity is exiled or imprisoned.

Read a book with a prophecy about the downfall of a great power.

Task 3: Use the Apostolic Scrolls to prepare for the final confrontation against Kyuss.

Read a book about an ancient text that has the power to shape reality.

Read a book with a character who tries to prepare for an inevitable battle.

Read a book about a chosen hero who must stop a dark god.

Read a book where an evil god tries to rise again and is opposed by mortals.

Okay, team, what do you think?

I'm leaning toward Path 3 - Face Kyuss as He Begins to Rise.

message 166: by RachelG. (new)

RachelG. | 318 comments I vote Path 1 or 3. I think 2 is going to give us the unintended consequences we don't want.

message 167: by Catsalive (new)

Catsalive | 1475 comments I think Path 3 is the best option but it looks like the tasks are the most difficult. However, I don't want the path of possibly sacrificing someone nor the one of unintended consequences.

RachelG. | 318 comments I think path 3 is going to be the best path to take so we don't have to sacrifice someone but it will also be the hardest and slowest.

RachelG. | 318 comments We have one left to go!

- Read a book where an evil god tries to rise again and is opposed by mortals.

I keep feeling like I should be able to find this story line but haven't so far. I have been surprised by how many litrpg stories have deities in them.

Quest 2D: The Worm God Ascends

Kyuss has partially risen. His body was disrupted in the battle, but his essence lives on as a divine Wormspawn entity, fragmented across dimensions. The Apostolic Scrolls have scattered, mutating other planes with necrotic worm-magic. The veil between realities is thinning, and you must act before more fragments of Kyuss ascend.

You have three options to respond to this new cosmic threat:

Path 1: Hunt the Fragments Across the Planes
You seek out the divine fragments of Kyuss before they can manifest into full godhood.

Step 1: Enter the Realm of Rot (Plane of Decay)
📚 Read a book with a decaying world or setting
📚 Read a book where the dead walk again
📚 Read a book with a map or planar travel

Step 2: Confront a Wormbound Avatar in Another Dimension
📚 Read a book with a body horror element
📚 Read a book where the villain is only partially human
📚 Read a book with “fragment” or “shard” in the text

Step 3: Seal or Purge the Fragment’s Power
📚 Read a book with a sealing ritual or magical prison
📚 Read a book about memory or identity loss
📚 Read a book that ends in a permanent exile or banishment

Path 2: Cleanse the Apostolic Scrolls Before Others Find Them
You travel across realities to retrieve and purify the corrupted scrolls before they fall into mortal or monstrous hands.

Step 1: Find the Scrolls in Alien Planes
📚 Read a book with a setting outside Earth or reality as we know it
📚 Read a book with a celestial or cosmic being
📚 Read a book with a worm or parasite on the cover or in the story

Step 2: Cleanse Each Scroll in a Sacred Place
📚 Read a book where a cursed item is purified
📚 Read a book with a temple, sanctuary, or magical altar
📚 Read a book with a natural phenomenon (eclipse, aurora, etc.)

Step 3: Re-write the Scrolls Using Living Ink
📚 Read a book with a scribe, chronicler, or magical writing
📚 Read a book with a self-aware object or book
📚 Read a book with the word “rewrite” or “rewrite” in the text

Path 3: Embrace the New Order—Become Wormtouched
You accept Kyuss’s rise and harness his power to protect reality from even greater cosmic threats, risking your own corruption.

Step 1: Bond With a Worm God Fragment
📚 Read a book where someone makes a pact with a dark force
📚 Read a book with transformation or mutation themes
📚 Read a book with the word “hunger” or “whisper” in the text

Step 2: Use Worm Magic to Reshape Reality
📚 Read a book where magic changes the fabric of the world
📚 Read a book where nature fights back
📚 Read a book with a character creating a new world or system

Step 3: Face the Consequences of Corruption
📚 Read a book with a morally gray or corrupted protagonist
📚 Read a book that ends in bittersweet or tragic victory
📚 Read a book where a god or cosmic force loses control

You're right. We don't want Kyuss to manifest, nor do we want those scrolls in the wrong hands. I'm in a quandary.

I'm going to ask in the Q&A. I am currently reading Dungeon Crawler Carl and it should work for at least one of the prompts.

NTS- Dungeon Crawler Carl works for body horror element, dead walk again, parasite in the story,

I googled it - not sure if this is what Donna had in mind, but I suspect it is.

A body horror element, within the context of horror fiction and film, refers to imagery or plot points that involve the grotesque or unnatural transformation of the human body. This often includes graphic and disturbing scenes of mutilation, mutation, or disease, and can be used to explore themes of the body's fragility, its corruption, or the limits of what defines us as human.

Thanks. I was just curious what I should look for if we decide to do that path. Mutation or corruption of the body shouldn't be too hard.

ETA- I just finished a chapter where this exact thing happened. A person was taken from her home and turned into a 15 foot tall monster living in a garbage heap and called The Hoarder.

Lexi | 781 comments I saw Angie go by on my thread (waves) and had to drop by and say that Kingfisher writes some good body horror - The Hollow Places being my favorite and a really good audio. Also, outside of the body horror, quite funny and no sexual violence. What Moves the Dead also works and is much shorter and combines my favorite horror and fungi themes.

RachelG. | 318 comments I vote we do Task 2 if we want to only complete one and if we want to complete two then we do Tasks 1 and 2. I am fine with either option but figured I should find out which so I can focus on what books to read.

Does anyone have the power to astral project?? I suspect we have a Kobayashi Maru here! And would need a way to "cheat" the game in spectacular fashion to be able to complete 2 paths! LOL

message 199: by Catsalive (new)

Catsalive | 1475 comments I have trouble working out what my rogue can do, but astral projection doesn't seem to be it. I am a cheater, can tell convincing lies & discern intentions, threaten someone into doing what I want, can notice something that's easy to miss, deduce how something works, graciously convince someone of something, use sleight of hand, acrobatics & stealth.
