Hero’s Journey Challenge!



The Hero’s Journey is a popular formula used by many writers to show a character’s story from their ordinary life, through a quest or challenge, to their victorious (or maybe disastrous) ending. There are twelve steps that we will go through and wrap up with some popular fictional heroes.

This challenge will start at midnight on January 1st and end at 11:59 pm on March 31st. Winners will be announced April 1st. When signing up, please let me know how many books you think you can read per week.

This can be an estimate and is just used to make teams

Rules:
The general challenge rules can be found here.

Page Points
<50 pages = .25 points
51 - 99 pages = .5 points
^^^ these books will only count for page points
100 - 149 pages = 1 point
150 - 249 pages = 2 points
250 - 349 pages = 3 points
350 - 449 pages = 4 points
450 - 549 pages = 5 points
550 - 649 pages = 6 points
650 - 749 pages = 7 points
750 - 849 pages = 8 points
850 - 949 pages = 9 points
950+ = 10 points

*Buddy read points will double the page count.
*Reading and participating in the group book of the month will triple the page count

Books less than 100 pages can count for page points but will not count towards a category.

How to Play:

Players will be divided into teams and have 30 tasks they can complete for the week. These are non-repeatable unless all 30 are first completed, so members will need to communicate with each other as to who will read what.

Once the week is over, the previous phases will be closed. Since this is a quarterly challenge, you can bank books for future weeks if they fit a certain upcoming task.

Teams will receive a spreadsheet of tasks to help keep track.

Is this the only thread for this? I just finished my first book and was looking to post it. I have notifications turned off for this group since it’s been a while since I did a challenge and there are so many posts. I usually just turn them on for the threads I need.

For this challenge the page count is based on the top page count when you type it in the search bar and not based on the edition you actually read, right? Or is it based on the edition you read?

It's based on the top rated edition, so yes the one when you search in the search bar. I'm pretty sure that's standard across challenges within this group (at least the team monthlys and quarterlys). Switching it up depending on the challenge would get pretty confusing!
