Hello everyone and welcome to a new yearly challenge!

The goal of this challenge is to get you out of your comfort zone and encourage you to read books outside your normal range. It is also designed to be as laid back as possible helping you to read at least one book per month, totaling to 12 books throughout the year.

This challenge will run from January 1st-December 31st 2025.

Here is how this will work: every month, we will feature a genre along with 4 different prompts. You must read for one prompt (but can read for all 4 if you’d like) and the book you choose must fall under the genre of the month. Towards the end of the month, mods will come back and update the next month’s genre in the main post.

If you do not like a certain month’s genre or would not like to participate that month, you can choose to skip it—however, you have 2 “skips” for the year so choose wisely!

Other than that, that’s it! No page minimums required unless prompts specify otherwise. Mods will keep track by “awarding” emojis corresponding to that month.

Interested in participating? Simply reserve a spot in the comments and update that comment throughout the year as you read your books—similar to Tackle That TBR, our other yearly challenge.

If you started reading it for a January prompt you can go ahead and still put it down for January! The main goal is to get y’all to read a different genre each month so we’d still like for you to rotate through your TBR if possible!

Hi everyone! Apologies for the incredibly late update this month, I’ve been really sick for what feels like forever now and haven’t had the energy to do much of anything recently. Thank you all for being so patient and for checking in on me, grateful to be surrounded by awesome people.

If anything like this happens again, I’m giving the go ahead to copy from Brianna Raquel’s post since she is also part of the mod team. In case you don’t get your books in this month due to the late posting, enjoy a free pass on me! Anyway, without further ado August has been updated.

1. Read a book with “Classics” as a main genre
2. Read a banned book
3. Takes place in the 1900’s
4. Read a book from this modern day classics list
