PattyMacDotComma | 922 comments Ah, Harry! Not a cold case this time, but a complex current one for Bosch. In The Overlook, by veteran best-selling author Michael Connelly, what looks like a 'standard' murder, turns out to have deadly, and potentially very widespread, ramifications.

On the weird book side, I'm currently about to finish Ancient Sorceries and Other Weird Stories by Algernon Blackwood, which was just fantastic (for the most part), and I have also finished reading The Incubations by Ramsey Campbell.

On the crime side, tonight I'll be starting this group's current read, The God of the Woods by Liz Moore. I also finished an audiobook, There Is No Ethan: How Three Women Caught America's Biggest Catfish, which I didn't love.

Barbara (cinnabarb) | 9979 comments Tourist Season Tourist Season by Carl Hiaasen by Carl Hiaasen

In this comic novel, a Miami journalist fashions himself into El Fuego, Comandante of a terrorist group striving to drive tourists and snowbirds out of Florida.

Humorist/author Carl Hiaasen has a decades-long mission to save Florida's ecosystem (in real life). We all know how that's going.

3..5 stars for this book.

Jesse Redpath is great in The Wiregrass, and my only complaint is that Hyland doesn't write faster.

Constable Twitten #4, series probably best read in order. Another hilarious tale of the idiots and fools committing and (not) preventing crime in Brighton England in 1957. Very funny series satirizing cops and robbers stories. I like the series a lot, 4 stars.

Adrian Hyland is an Aussie author who really should be more widely read, I think. I don't know how available his books are, but I hope he keeps writing them.

Hollywood 1915. Really not a mystery but a semi-serious novel about the beginnings of the dirty movie business. Large cast of characters none of whom you'll want to nominate for sainthood. Parts are cute, parts are funny, parts are ugly, parts are sweet. I did like it -- 3 stars.
