I can't believe I have waited this long to read this. I am halfway done and BOY do I have some ideas, but there's a lot of cross details and points that cancel each other that I keep wondering, but I do kinda go back to the Christie Standard....the one that appears the least likely, and the most loyal...is probably the one who did it.

Toby Peters #11...... L.A. 1942. John Wayne hires Toby to keep him out of a murder charge but Toby ends up working more for Charlie Chaplin. Murder, blackmail, thievery, confidence tricksters -- this story has them all. This is one of the better entries in this light fun witty series. 4 stars.

Bergreen provides an overview of Jules Verne's life and work with LOTS of excerpts from Verne's best known novels.

Interesting and informative. 4 stars

James Best (jamesbest) | 299 comments Now starting COVER THE BONES (2023) by Chris Hammer, the third novel in his series featuring the homicide detective team of Ivan Lucic and Nell Buchanan set in modern day Australia.

I am really liking the series so far. He is giving Jane Harper a real run for the money when it comes to Australian noir.

Bruce | 3119 comments I finished The Long Walk by Richard Bachman by Richard Bachman It was very good. Stephen King’s books written under the Richard Bachman pseudonym don’t get the attention they deserve, for obvious reasons. This was his first book written after The Stand, and here, he’s still in “near future “ mode. Like the Stand, this is also a dystopian novel, rather than his usual horror novels.

The Jewish family of the author's husband is the focal point of this wide-ranging book about WWII. Amidst the horrors, Aunt Huguette was hidden from the Nazis by a doctor who later received the Righteous Among Nations award.

Eye-opening, Informative and interesting. 4 stars

Laura | 4984 comments I finished The Mysterious Affair at Styles by Agatha Christie The Mysterious Affair at Styles (Hercule Poirot, #1) by Agatha Christie

I am pretty proud of myself, I put a lot of the pieces together, but I did not guess the exact "how" of the murder. That still didn't come together in my mind until the end. There was a lot of poison flowing in that town...and a lot of tea, coffee, cocoa, and tonics/medicine, and sleeping powders.....

Well, it's either a murder mystery with a time-travel subplot or its a sci-fi time travel story with a murder mystery subplot. Slow starting but well worth the read -- I ended up enjoying it a lot. 4 stars.

Araych | 677 comments The London Blitz Murders The London Blitz Murders by Max Allan Collins by Max Allan Collins

Collins cleverly inserts Agatha Christie into the search for the Blackout Ripper who killed at least 4 women during the WW II London blackout. Yes, the Blackout Ripper was real. I love the idea but I found the book slow and not up to his usual high standards. 2 stars -- just OK.

Clint Eastwood started out his show business career as a mediocre actor who blinked alot to show emotion. Now Eastwood is one of the most lauded figures in Hollywood. Author Shawn Levy covers Clint's life and work, especially all the movies.
