Liz | 1195 comments What We Can Know What We Can Know by Ian McEwan is a mix of genres - dystopian, mystery and literary. But it didn’t quite work for me. My three star review:

PattyMacDotComma | 922 comments I am sorry to say that Abide with Me, an earlier Elizabeth Strout novel didn't appeal to me as much as her others have. Plenty of readers love it, so I think this one's just a me-thing. Check their reviews. 😊

PattyMacDotComma | 922 comments I'm often wary of Pulitzer Prize winners, but I was absolutely swept along with Larry McMurtry's eccentric characters on their cattle drive from Lonesome Dove, Texas, to Montana. I've loved 'cowboy' stories since I was a little girl, so this was a real treat. The audio was also terrific.

Stephanie Plum is juggling the two men in her life while doing her job chasing bail jumpers with her kooky sidekick Lula..

This humorous series is still going strong. 3.5 stars

Araych | 677 comments The Dark Edge of Night The Dark Edge of Night by Mark Pryor by Mark Pryor

Henri Lefort #2.... Paris, 1940. Paris is occupied by the Germans and French policeman Lefort has no choice but to work for the hated Nazis. The book rather reminded me of Philip Kerr's Bernie Gunther series. I liked this book OK but I don't think it's as good as Kerr's work. 3 stars.

PattyMacDotComma | 922 comments Popular Aussie author Michael Robotham doesn't write Aussie mysteries (yet...) and he doesn't write cosies, either. But he does write some great English thrillers about people I've grown fond of. Close Your Eyes is the next-to-the-last in this series, and I'm not at all happy about where he's left Professor Joe O'Loughlin this time.
Close Your Eyes (Joseph O'Loughlin, #8) by Michael Robotham My review of Close Your Eyes

PattyMacDotComma | 922 comments I can just see the classroom that would have loved helping to put this together. Holes in My Underwear: Over 100 Poems That Will Knock Your Socks Off by their teacher Matthew Eicheldinger is an entertaining collection for kids that I hope might encourage others to dabble at poetry themselves.

Barbara (cinnabarb) | 9979 comments Fever Beach Fever Beach by Carl Hiaasen by Carl Hiaasen

Hiaasen's comic novels usually tackle despoilers of the Florida environment, but this time Hiaasen skewers right wing conspiracists.

The story is funny but a bit disturbing. 4 stars

James Best (jamesbest) | 299 comments Now starting THE RUSSIA HOUSE (1989) by John Le Carre', a stand alone spy thriller set just before the Soviet bloc began to crumble.

Way back in 1990 I saw the film adaptation starring Sean Connery, Michelle Pfieffer, Roy Scheider, John Mahoney, and Klaus Maria Brandauer. If I enjoy the novel I may re-watch the movie to see how closely it follows the book.
