In this historical novel, the eugenics movement in the U.S. is used to disenfranchise Blue Ridge Mountain people, so the gov't can build Shenandoah National Park.

Did you even know about the American eugenics movement. They kept that one pretty quiet!!!

Good book. 4 stars

Araych | 677 comments Hitler's Peace Hitler's Peace by Philip Kerr by Philip Kerr

Spy novel set during WW II, written by one of the finest authors of all time of this genre. With a wonderful surprise twist late in the story. However, it's written in alternating chapters of 2 different viewpoints which is a method I really don't like. For this reason downgraded one star to 3 stars.

I read that book a long time ago and I remember enjoying it. But you are correct that the two separate viewpoints took some getting used to.

Kerr's series featuring Bernie Gunther are some of the best stuff in the genre. I have to say I liked them a lot more than his stand alone novels.

James Best (jamesbest) | 299 comments Now about halfway through HOTEL UKRAINE by Martin Cruz Smith. This is the 11th book in his Arkady Renko series and it was published in July just three days before Smith passed away from Parkinson's disease.

A great writer and a terrific character. Rest in peace, Mr. Smith. You and Arkady will both be missed.
