Laura | 4984 comments Finished streaming (on Hoopla, but it is usually on Acorn), Mrs Sidhu Investigates. It's a British Crime Series.

In episode 1, Mrs Sidhu is a caterer, her father was a renowned police officer who was killed in action. When she goes on one of her first big jobs at an athletic club, one of the trainers is stabbed to death in the massage room. All clues point to her "niece" who is the massage therapist there.

Mrs Sidhu knows her niece is totally innocent, and sets out to find the killer! She and the local detective butt heads a few times, but come to respect each other. Sidhu's lazy and hapless son is of no use, and only gets in the way.

There are three other episodes in Season one. It was a fun series, and I'd recommend.

Jan C (woeisme) | 39173 comments Started streaming on PBS Passport (probably also on Prime) Vienna Blood. Realized I started reading a book years ago in this series. Interesting. Young doctor asks to tag along/observe on a case. Woman is killed but the coroner says there is no bullet.

After finishing the book, we watched all of season 1 of Slow Horses on Apple TV yesterday. I thought my spouse would hate it but he didn't. I certainly didn't, although they did change a bit of the novel for television. I will watch the next season once I've finished book 2.

Also -- Will Trent is back -- yay!

Bruce | 3119 comments I started streaming Watson on Paramount+. It broadcasts on CBS on Sunday nights as well (for now). Part medical show, part crime drama. Part Sherlock Holmes, part House. Fun, interesting take on the Sherlock Holmes stories. Holmes dies at the beginning while fighting Moriarty at the Reichenbach Falls. Watson is badly injured while trying to save him, and is the only survivor. Watson inherits Holmes’ estate, including plans for a new medical consulting group designed by Holmes, called The Holmes Clinic, after himself (obviously). Most of the episode turns into a House like drama, complete with a young medical team working under Watson, although there are some crime show elements. On the plus side, unlike recent modernized Sherlock Holmes/Dr Watson shows, we get to see the famous death scene at the Reichenbach Falls from the books.

Laura | 4984 comments On Amazon Prime, I watched the documentary, CODE OF SILENCE. It follows Manny Waks, who as a young Orthodox boy studying at the Melbourne Yeshiva, was repeated sexually abused by a security guard and martial arts teacher.

This abuse caused Manny to act out and eventually to leave the Orthodox community, and become as now-secular son. It also caused much confusion and pain for his parents who could not understand his anger and desire to leave the community.

Eventually, after seeing an Australian ad campaign regarding child abuse. Manny comes to his parents and tells him what he experienced. His family, especially his father, support him without question, his mother suffers in her faith and the loss of her circle of support. His father, while waving a flag of love for his father, feels the loss and hostility from the Yeshiva, the most, as he is not allowed to join in prayers or services. He is verbally assaulted every time he sets foot near the Yeshiva, which is RIGHT ACCROSS FROM THEIR HOUSE!

It follows this family's struggles as they deal with child sex abuse, and what the Orthodox Code of Silence really means, and how should it be implemented.

Laura | 4984 comments On Peacock, I watched the documentary, DIDDY: The Making of a Bad Boy.

Wow! My mind is blown. Watching this young man who had so much potential, but never taught to be accountable. His friends who protected him, but left when they realized he was not who they thought he was (this was 20 years ago), and those who protected him...and still do out of fear.

What people do with power and for power...and those that do whatever they can for just a piece of that power. It's just sickening. I felt it was very well done. I worried the abuse and sexual assault aspect may trigger some emotions from me, but it was done in a way that was very well done.

Jacqueline (thereaderx1f4da) | 674 comments Dark matter was a great 9 episode series. It was as mind blowing as the novel love hate characters. This I streamed with my fiancé on Appletv, and we both enjoyed it very much. I also enjoy watching Elsbeth on Paramount which I enjoy very much her character first appeared on the Goodwife series. Her character is great and her show is an awesome standalone series with lots of great guest appearances. Happy streaming 📺!

Bruce | 3119 comments I started watching Sherlock and Daughter. One the best of the recent Sherlock related shows, so far. David Thewlis is a great and memorable Sherlock. Blu Hunt is Amelia Rojas, who travels from America to London after her mother is murdered. She believes Sherlock is her father, although he does not. He does agree to take her on as an apprentice though. They are on the search for kidnappers, who have captured multiple people, including Watson and Mrs Hudson, and murdered a servant woman working for Sherlock. Of course, in addition to the main mystery, the other mystery is whether Amelia is Sherlock’s daughter. Like some earlier adaptations, there’s a bit of a “jumble” of stories, with Silver Blaze slightly mixed into the plot, and the next episode will apparently have Moriarty, which is getting tiresome, although Dougray Scott should be a good casting of the character.

Bruce | 3119 comments I’m watching a couple animated series from the 80’s on Disney+: Droids, and Ewoks. I vaguely remember watching them when I was little, but not very well. I like Droids better so far, as it feels more like Star Wars, whereas Ewoks feels more like other kids 80’s animated series, like Gummi Bears or something.

Laura | 4984 comments On Netflix, watching the show North of North. About a modern First Nations woman who is trying to make her own way in her tiny town as far North as one can go! Enjoying it A LOT!
