The Perks Of Being A Book Addict discussion

The April mini challenge has been posted so everyone take a look. Some of the tasks are a bit tricky.

Checking in - I'm almost done with Recursion, but I'm waiting to finish until tomorrow so it will work for the mini. Next up is A Reaper at the Gates - it works for Green 3 or 6 if anything needs to be moved around.

The last section looks interesting - I don't ever remember having to write something to get points!

We had to write those galactic recipes that one year. That one was a lot of fun. And wasn’t there some adventure stories one year too?

The April mini challenge looks like a lot of fun!! Currently rereading Hunger Games, that should definitely work for one of the mini slots.

The April challenge sounds fun! I'm almost done with the Paris Apartment, but going to wait until tonight to finish it so we can use it for the mini too.

So, one of my books is a 4.5 in the series, can that be used as a 4 in series? Or rounded up to 5?

Do we still need a 1 yellow for the colour cards?

@Dawn - we do still need one but unfortunately that cover is too orange and not enough yellow to work.

@JL - I’m going to use The Revenge for the mini as including a defensive strategy as it seems like the MC does that to prove her brother’s innocence. Let me know if that isn’t accurate for some reason.

One of the Pixie books counts as a 1 Yellow so we are now gpod on color cover cards!

Has anyone else read where the Crawdads Sing? I'm thinking it could fit in 12-"The Pilot-Read a book with a character who’s always on the move — a traveler, driver, or adventurer." Kya is always on the move exploring her marsh....What do you guys think?
I also put it for 36 because I have wanted to read it forever. If 2018 is considered ages....?

I've read Where the Crawdads Sing. Kya is definitely always on the move, but I feel like the prompt is expecting a larger geographical area so I'm not sure if it would fit for that. But 2018 is ages in my opinion!

It would also work for Debut Novel (Delia Owens has written nonfiction prior, but this was her debut novel according to goodreads).

While Lisa is correct that it fits those tasks I’m gonna move Paris Apartment to eerie and Monday Mourning to doctor cuz Crawdads has a very strong theme of not fitting in so it works for that task better. And correct me if I’m wrong Lisa but isn’t Anne of Green Gables quite the little adventurer? I’ve never read it bit I thought it was all about her adventures on the farm.

I don't know that I'd consider Anne of Green Gables as going on adventures. She has quite the imagination and takes great delight in church picnics, apple picking with her neighbor friend in their orchard, having guests to tea, etc. So kind of normal day activities that she makes more grand in her mind. She is very good at living in the moment and being mindful of the world/beauty around her.

P.S. I think it could work for humorous character which looks like it is still open

We only have a week left! I'm currently working on Anne of Green Gables and A Sky Beyond the Storm (it is last book in the series so might work for that one on the mini, but I need to look harder at what we have left to see if it will fit more).

Ideally, I would also finish Dreams of Gods & Monsters, which is on the spreadsheet, but I'm not sure if I'll make it since it is a longer book too.

How are we doing as far as finishing up Shaw? I see about 30 blanks on our official spreadsheet and only about 10 unfinished books on the tracking spreadsheet. Some maybe can be covered by UNO pixie? But how many more do we need do you think as a team? Are there any mini prompts you're worried about covering? Maybe instead of Dreams of Gods & Monsters, I could find a shorter book that would fill a hole....

We’ll need three or four more to finish cuz we have about 10 more Pixie books we can add. I’ll be adding them throughout this week depending on which ones fit the mini best. I’m a little concerned about the access, permission key to plot task as I’ve got nothing so far to fill that one.

That is a harder prompt - would The Husbands work? The protagonist has a new life/husband every time someone goes into/comes out of her attic.

I woukd say that works for the speculative elements that question reality task.

True, that probably does fit better; I was hoping the attic door could be considered an access/entry point. There’s probably some portal fantasy books I want to read that could work, though. I’ll keep thinking about it, but anyone else feel free to take the prompt if you have a good idea!

We have now completed Part Two: Select Your Crew of the mini!
So we need to complete the Captain's Log entry. As the captain I can just write one but since we are a team I wanted input from y'all. So go ahead and let me know if someone else wants to write some of the logs or if y'all just want to me to do it. Or we can also write it as a team with everyone throwing out ideas and then combining them.

I'm still working on A Sky Beyond the Storm; I suspect it will be my last book for the month....

I went ahead and completed the two logs for Part 2 and Part 3. I’ll finish Part 4 this morning.

We have now completed our April mini!

Yay! I've nearly finished The Reaper at the Gates and I may be able to squeeze one more in on flight back from holiday ✈️

Whichever way is fine- I was counting Reaper but if you finish one more that can be added as well. But if you want to enjy your holiday more and just finish Reaper then we will have enough to finish.

So ee have 5 books left for the regular UNO cards not counting the last color and Overload cards. I have two left, Beettice has 1 and Dawn is wrapping up Reaper. So someone can finish that last book but it can also be a Pixie book so there are no worries this time that we won’t have enough books to finish.

I will have my overload card done soon definitely by tomorrow.

Understandable- - relaxing at the end of the challenge is nice.

It’s all good- we have enough to finish. The only spot left en is the Overload card. But if anyone wants to finish another one i’ll make room. But it is not necessary.
