I was always just interested in the history side and the volcanos. We have beautiful beaches (and Sydney is also very expensive so I underatand! ) so it wasn't really about that side for me.

Enjoy your weekend!

Kelly (Maybedog) (maybedog) | 154 comments I'm impressed with your language skills, Lauri! I do want to go to Hawaii someday. I want to visit my sister in Melbourne and that's a common stopover. Last time my sister came, she stopped there for three days. Good thing, too, because her gallbladder necrotized? Died? Stopped? and she ended up in the hospital with emergency surgery! Good thing she had both trip insurance and travel health insurance!

I'm not good in the sun. I'll bring a large hat and lots of sunscreen.

Lauri (otwlauri) | 935 comments Me neither! After a lifetime spent in the sun with nothing but baby oil on, I have had skin cancer 3 times! Each time, they chopped parts off. It had to always be front and center, too. My chest, nose and hairline! They actually had to shave about 3 inches of my hair, too. I’ve had countless biopsies. My husband - - a surfer can’t understand why I don’t want to go to the beach anymore.
Why can’t it ever be on my back or arm or leg?

I use SPF 100 now. I’m a believer! I still have to go in for screening every 6 months. I just went in last week & I’m cleared til October now. *sigh*. Pasty white is the new normal…

It sounds like it hasn't metastasized or if it has, they got it right away. I hope that never happens for you and that you don't get it anymore!

Kelly (Maybedog) (maybedog) | 154 comments Namita,

Do you ever add stuff to your shelves that you've read but forgot to switch from to-read to read? The reason I ask is that you have a lot of the Mrs. Pollifax series on your shelves and you've read some but out of order. So I'm wondering if you've read the earlier ones and just not marked them as read. I want to use #3 as a reverse if so.

Lisa - (Aussie Girl) | 1505 comments Signed up too.

Having an absolutely lovely time in the Italian Lakes, although it’s rained every day but one. That’s Spring here and the gardens are gorgeous.

Sorry my reading has slowed but will definitely have my current book finished and maybe one more by the end of the challenge.

Happy reading everyone.

Karen ⊰✿ | 3767 comments We are in the Hunter Valley this weekend which is a wine area only about 2 hours from Sydney.
Beautiful autumn weather but unusually warm with tops of 28c which is working for the kids who are enjoying the pool at the resort!

Kelly (Maybedog) (maybedog) | 154 comments Lisa and Karen, I'm jealous. It sounds lovely. It's been forever since I've taken a vacation. But then, my life isn't as hectic as those of you all.

Kelly (Maybedog) (maybedog) | 154 comments If I'm reading the lists correctly, we need one more Overload card, it can be pink, gray or purple, and doesn't need to match any particular number. If so, I can do gray:

The Mysterious Affair at Styles (Hercule Poirot, #1) by Agatha Christie

It can also be a reverse.

Let me know if it's needed so I can prioritize it.

message 570: by Sammy (last edited Apr 19, 2025 07:01AM) (new)

Sammy (sammystarbuck) | 1019 comments I've already read a pink 😉

but reverses might still be needed!

I'll read it next.

Sammy (sammystarbuck) | 1019 comments Yep, I've read it, and I'm certain there will be a couple of others too. I'm pretty sure it was a NBRC BOM last year 😁

Kelly (Maybedog) (maybedog) | 154 comments Is there anything we still need other than for the minis? I just wanted to see if we needed more reverses or maybe we haven't had enough Ks or whatever. I could choose a book based on what we need in that also matches the minis that are left.

Sophie (drsophie) | 717 comments Come Tumbling Down which I'm about to finish will work for 9, 31, 34, 38 or 39 whichever you think is most difficult to fill.

It's also a reverse with Karen.

Kelly (Maybedog) (maybedog) | 154 comments Lisa, I love me some space smut! I took number 12, but you can take it over if you want. it sounds like an even better fit. I haven't read my book yet and it might work for language.

message 586: by Kelly (Maybedog) (new)

Kelly (Maybedog) (maybedog) | 154 comments Sophie, of those, only 31 and 38 are left. Thirty one would be hardest from my perspective.

Lisa - (Aussie Girl) | 1505 comments I finished Mated to the warriors by Grace Goodwin on 24 April.

Book 2

CFN. Hannah
CFN. Zane
CFN. Nial

For the mini fits 12 or 8 .

Set on spaceship travelling through space, characters Zane and Dare are pilots, warriors and adventurers.

The bad guys are a mechanical species called The Hive who capture Dare and Nial and make mechanical/robot enhancements to them before they are rescued.

Please add to spreadsheet where it fits. 😀

Kelly (Maybedog) (maybedog) | 154 comments Tina, you put Sophie's book for #30 instead of #31. Was that intentional? If someone else doesn't grab it, I can probably do #30. I'm not as likely to find something for #31.

However, the end of the month is busy for me so if someone else can grab it, awesome.

Yes I finished just a few hours before you I think!! It actually took me a while to mark the book as read or even talk about the ending.
Now I need to gird my loins to buy book 5

I just started The Real Doctor Will See You Shortly: A Physician's First Year for my cleaning out the closet challenge - Sophie did you recommend this to me? It is fascinating. And as I am rewatching Scrubs with the kids, I am seeing Scrubs in a new light as having a (tiny) basis in how an intern's days work! 🤣

I suspect it won't be next month for me, as I have a lot lined up to read and I suspect reading time will be severely limited. But I'll get to it sooner or later. 😁

Kelly (Maybedog) (maybedog) | 154 comments Hmm. I don't know if he is on a journey at that moment. I know they journey from this world to the other (and it's a physical journey I believe not just a "poof") but I won't know until I read the book. If someone else can come up with something, great, otherwise, I'll read it when I'm done with the two books I have to read first. But I should have time. Thinking about this one..

I read At Bertram's Hotel this week where one of the characters goes to the airport to fly to Lucerne for a conference only to find he has been given the wrong day so he has to go back to Bertram's hotel (and then disappears). I think it would fit for the task.
I didn't really consider it at the time as I was only thinking abuot Miss Marple and how her journey wasn't interrupted, but Canon Pennyfather's was and it is a main plot point for the book.

So you can still read your book for fun, Kelly, but no pressure now to finish it for this challenge :)
