Karen ⊰✿ | 3767 comments Oh and I picked up a new book with a blue cover and just had a character called Etty turn up so I can use it for the WD4 😊

Sophie (drsophie) | 717 comments Atlas The Story of Pa Salt (The Seven Sisters, #8) by Lucinda Riley

Just finished this which works for a lot of the blue cover options.

How did you like the ending? Had you guessed the truth about Atlas before the final book ? Enjoyable series.

It was so moving the Lucinda Riley's son was able to finish the series after her very sad passing.

message 154: by Sammy (new)

Sammy (sammystarbuck) | 1019 comments I actually enjoyed that one more than most of the previous books in the series! A very suitable and satisfying end to the series, I thought.

message 155: by Sophie (new)

Sophie (drsophie) | 717 comments I wasn't hugely surprised - she'd left a lot of hints along the way. Was good to have the whole series wrapped up though.

I'm really glad she'd left enough notes and that her son felt able to finish it. Still annoyed that Sue Grafton's alphabet series will never have a Z.

Lauri (otwlauri) | 935 comments Yaaaayyyy! Finally on the board! I have 2 more that I should finish in the next couple of days. We’ve had relatives visiting last week & I wasn’t getting too much book time in. I should be on track at least for a while now!

message 159: by Kelly (Maybedog) (new)

Kelly (Maybedog) (maybedog) | 154 comments Sorry, I made a mistake. The book I finished yesterday, The Nightmare Before Kissmas, is actually first in a series not standalone. I fixed it on the spreadsheet. I wanted to let you know, though, in case you had already planned where to put it.

Karen ⊰✿ | 3767 comments Quick update

- we have completed 2 full hands and have books covering other cards also.
- all coloured covers we have claimed and are being read
- only one more reverse card left

It will only be a few more days until the mini is announced, so for the moment just keep on reading. We are doing really well!

message 163: by Sammy (last edited Feb 10, 2025 12:42PM) (new)

Sammy (sammystarbuck) | 1019 comments What is the ruling on articles in names for Spell-outs? Are they to be used, or can they be ignored?

(Dutch names are particularly pesky for them. If they were counted, most of the country could start with a D or V 😆)

message 164: by Kelly (Maybedog) (new)

Kelly (Maybedog) (maybedog) | 154 comments Are we supposed to be doing completion posts?

message 165: by Sophie (new)

Sophie (drsophie) | 717 comments We can do completion posts if we want or if using the SS is tricky for whatever reason. Sometimes they prompt questions about the books or conversation which can be good.

Captains: I've just finished reading a book (Quinn the Jade Treasure Dragon) to my son which was 11000 words. It'll be on my read shelf but won't count for this.

Sammy (sammystarbuck) | 1019 comments EEP! I spy with my little eye: something yellow from a galaxy far, far away...

*Impatiently waits for caps to come announce stuff before I go all giddy*

What I will say though is...

MURDERBOT!!! 😆

message 172: by Kelly (Maybedog) (new)

Kelly (Maybedog) (maybedog) | 154 comments I went through the list of books read so far and I haven't read any of the ones others have read. If we're still looking for a Reverse card, that's a good way of figuring out if someone read a book you have. Then you could tell them and they can put it in as a Reverse. Maybe you all already thought of that.

message 173: by Sammy (last edited Feb 12, 2025 03:51AM) (new)

Sammy (sammystarbuck) | 1019 comments yeah, I tend to check whenever I add a book. But we should be fine for reverses this round. We only need 1 and there are several on the sheet right now.
I suspect we'll be needing plenty more in round 2 though!

message 174: by Kelly (Maybedog) (last edited Feb 12, 2025 10:29AM) (new)

Kelly (Maybedog) (maybedog) | 154 comments Oh, I thought she said one more. Oops. Well next month I'll have more time to read books that fit because I'll be down to one other challenge halfway through the month where I can also read whatever I want.

message 175: by Sammy (new)

Sammy (sammystarbuck) | 1019 comments Yes, she said one more, but several then got added to the sheet, so we don't need to go out of our way to find any until next month now 😁

Karen ⊰✿ | 3767 comments February Mini Challenge

Has everyone had a look? ;) https://www.goodreads.com/topic/show/...

We need to choose 6 characters that we want to read the tasks for. One needs to be a hero and one a villain and the rest our choice.

Remember, this is only for books finished after the start of this mini challenge on 14 February, 9am

Shout out your choice for characters if you have any preferences!

Edit- our preferences below-

1. R2D2 & C3PO
2.Jabba the Hutt
3.Darth Vader
4.
5.
6.

message 177: by Sammy (new)

Sammy (sammystarbuck) | 1019 comments Yes, but why no Boba Fett!? He's my 💗

I would definitely suggest 3PO, as Murderbot is all over the Artificial Intelligence list, in case anyone would like to read or re-read. (I would myself, but I only just did!)

Not that I'm trying to push those books on people or anything.

(but seriously, go read!)

Seriously though, I can read for pretty much anything there.

message 179: by Lisa - (Aussie Girl) (last edited Feb 12, 2025 02:12PM) (new)

Lisa - (Aussie Girl) | 1505 comments I can also read pretty much anything but who doesn't love Jabba the Hutt (Or Pizza the Hut, as my kids used to call him, LOL)

message 180: by Kelly (Maybedog) (new)

Kelly (Maybedog) (maybedog) | 154 comments I can find something in most of these but since I mostly read romance, I vote for Darth Vader and request that I get task 34. :)

All good Karen. Captain's pick.

message 191: by Sammy (last edited Feb 14, 2025 03:23AM) (new)

Sammy (sammystarbuck) | 1019 comments If it helps, you don't need to worry about chosing tricky ones like MPG war or horror because I can definitely cover those. And I even have a book on the 'boss' shelf (will surprise no-one as much as it does me! 😆)

message 192: by Karen ⊰✿, Avaricious Reader (new)

Karen ⊰✿ | 3767 comments Ok, let's go with:

1. R2D2 & C3PO
2.Jabba the Hutt
3.Darth Vader
4. Princess Leia
5. Hans Solo
6. Luke Skywalker

If we get stuck, we will just get Sammy to find an obscure book haha

message 193: by Sammy (last edited Feb 15, 2025 03:19AM) (new)

Sammy (sammystarbuck) | 1019 comments If I include re-reads, I literally have stuff to cover every single mini task 😆

message 194: by Sammy (last edited Feb 15, 2025 03:33AM) (new)

Sammy (sammystarbuck) | 1019 comments I've dropped the books I have already planned to read into the mini where they fit, but I'll hang fire grabbing any more until I get an idea of what will need specific searching for 😉

If there are any tasks people have a definite "heck no" reaction to, just holler and I'll concentrate on those.

message 195: by Kelly (Maybedog) (new)

Kelly (Maybedog) (maybedog) | 154 comments I’m out of town and the hotel’s internet died so I only have my phone working. I may not be able to get into the spreadsheet until Tuesday but I’ve signed up for two mini game topics so far, one of which I’ve already completed. I’ll look for more when I get back Tuesday.
