Janice (jamasc) | 59964 comments You're neck in neck with a couple others. :)

message 104: by Alexandra (new)

Alexandra (alex2911) | 676 comments It’s like a little toppler then :).

Janice (jamasc) | 59964 comments It's a race to the finish line for second place. Lanelle got her badge yesterday.

message 106: by Alexandra (new)

Alexandra (alex2911) | 676 comments I’ll put on my running shoes then ;-)
Are you also close to the next badge? I remember we both finished badge 3 at about the same time…

message 107: by Janice, Moderator (new)

Janice (jamasc) | 59964 comments I should finish books 23 & 24 today. I'll start book 25 tomorrow and if I'm lucky, I'll have it done by the end of August.

message 108: by Alexandra (last edited Aug 29, 2025 08:19AM) (new)

Alexandra (alex2911) | 676 comments I‘m keeping my fingers crossed that you’ll finish your book in August! I will also start with book 25 today but I don’t know yet if it will be a fast read…

message 109: by Janice, Moderator (new)

Janice (jamasc) | 59964 comments I started it today and it's not a long book.

I really appreciate that you’re not putting any pressure on me ;)…

message 111: by Janice, Moderator (new)

Janice (jamasc) | 59964 comments It's Margo's fault. She's putting the pressure on. She intends to finish her final book tonight. LOL!

message 112: by Alexandra (new)

Alexandra (alex2911) | 676 comments LOL!
I’m halfway through my book but don’t think I’ll finish it today. Still I might sneak to Margo‘s page and see if I can distract her…

Janice (jamasc) | 59964 comments Congrats on finishing badge 3. :) You got a spurt of energy and blasted past the finish line ahead of me.🏃‍♀️

message 115: by Alexandra (new)

Alexandra (alex2911) | 676 comments Thank you but my book was easy to read and so enjoyable that I could read it in two days.

message 116: by Alexandra (new)

Alexandra (alex2911) | 676 comments … and thank you for this beautiful badge!

message 117: by Margo (new)

Margo | 11655 comments Congrats Alexandra!

I flew through my final 2 books as well and loved them. They'd both been sitting on my shelf for years and I wasn't inclined to pick them up till this challenge prompted me. Can't believe what I almost missed out on as they were both close to 5 star listens.

message 118: by Janice, Moderator (new)

Janice (jamasc) | 59964 comments I'm going to see how far I get with Badge 4. Are either one of you going to attempt it?

Thank you, Margo!
Same here - this challenge really gets me to reading books I would have missed otherwise. I have the nasty habit of buying too many books and if I don’t read them right away they stay on my shelves forever…

I am, it seems I have a run now, even if I would not have dreamt about finishing more than one badge…

Well, you're in good company Alexandra!!!

I will start badge 4, but I don't expect to finish it. I've decided I'll do male authors. I've started The Crimson Petal and the White which is 42 hours long. I have few other longish books by men that I'll try to slot in so I'm in no rush ;-)

message 122: by Alexandra (new)

Alexandra (alex2911) | 676 comments This sounds very good, it goes straight to my TBR (talking about too many books). Please let me know if you liked it.

I am going for list number 7 - specific word in the title.

I’m keeping my fingers crossed that we all will complete badge number 4 before Christmas (over here they are already selling ginger bread in the supermarkets so it’s not that far away)!

message 123: by Margo (new)

Margo | 11655 comments Arrg, christmas merch seems to hit the shelves earlier every year, but at this time of year it is ridiculous!

I was planning on doing the Title Words list but I've had a last minute change of heart. I really don't think I'll finish the badge as I'm only planning on reading books that appeal to me till the end of the year. I have a lot of reading planned where the books are too short to fit the challenge and I'm hoping not to read any more 2 star ( 🤞) just because they fit. I'll be reading by whim for the rest of the year 😊

I'll be keeping eye on the rest of you though and cheering you on.

A Perilous Undertaking
338 pages

message 127: by Janice, Moderator (new)

Janice (jamasc) | 59964 comments I'l really sorry to be the bearer of bad news. A Perilous Undertaking doesn't fit the task. The task is for the word "Under".

"10. Compound words/Imbedded words/Plurals: When a task requires a specific word in the title, it must match the required word as close as possible unless specifically stated in the individual task. It may not be included as a compound word or imbedded in another word. "

Oh no, I thought as long as the word was in it, I could go with it. I understand, though. I guess the handmaid‘s tale for „hand“ is also off the list, too bad…
BUT: I can indulge in my favorite hobby and gopher a little bit more….

message 129: by Janice, Moderator (new)

Janice (jamasc) | 59964 comments Unfortunately, Handmaid's Tale wouldn't work for Hand either. I hope that you at least enjoyed A Perilous Undertaking. I enjoyed the entire series. Love a sassy strong female protagonist. :)

message 130: by Alexandra (last edited Sep 05, 2025 11:00AM) (new)

Alexandra (alex2911) | 676 comments I quite enjoyed it. I think I’ll read the whole series as well. I feel the same way about strong female protagonists - especially if the setting takes place in the Victorian age. Makes one feel quite progressive.

Task number 7 (specific word in the title) - Murder
The Marlow Murder Club
340 pages

message 139: by Janice, Moderator (new)

Janice (jamasc) | 59964 comments How was it? I've had this book for a long time and keep slotting it into challenge tasks and somehow manage to never get around to reading it.

message 140: by Alexandra (new)

Alexandra (alex2911) | 676 comments I liked it a lot - it‘s cozy but not too simple. I listened to the audio book and in my opinion it’s even better than the paper version. I just finished the other books from the series, they keep getting even better (from my opinion). So I’d highly recommend it…

message 141: by Janice, Moderator (new)

Janice (jamasc) | 59964 comments Great! I have the audiobook edition. :)

message 142: by Margo (new)

Margo | 11655 comments Pete (hubby) just just listened to it and thought it was good. Similar to the The Thursday Murder Club series which he's addicted to. Did you watch the netflix film of The Thursday Murder Club? I enjoyed it.

message 143: by Janice, Moderator (new)

Janice (jamasc) | 59964 comments Yes, I watched it. I thought it kept to the book pretty closely. I'm eager to read book 2 in the series now. :)

message 144: by Alexandra (last edited Sep 16, 2025 01:38PM) (new)

Alexandra (alex2911) | 676 comments I did not watch the film but I’m a huge fan of The Thursday Murder Club. The Marlow murder series also reminded me of it (probably because both have very clever and strong female main characters in their 70s) but that didn’t matter, it didn’t feel like a copy.
The film of the Thursday murder Club will go straight to my to-watch-list…

message 145: by Margo (new)

Margo | 11655 comments I agree Janice, very enjoyable.

Hope you like it whenever you get to it Alexandra - my netflix list is nearly as long as my TBR!
