I’ve gotten a bit into it but listening on audio, which so far is well done.

I’m enjoying the world building. Not the fastest paced but I’m liking that so far.

The opening scene was . . . Something else. Using a (view spoiler)[rib bone as a drum stick (hide spoiler)].

The duel roles her father has certainly is complicated.

I’ve gotten through the ball and the sisters are about to provide entertainment to the crowd. Curious as to what that will entail

I started listening to the audio, but got distracted. I think I may switch to print until I get a handle on the world.

Understandable. I’m hoping I end up liking this enough to continue the series. Book 2 is a nice red cover and book 3 is a nice green one, perfect for UNO😂

I am befuddled by this book so far. I am about halfway through, and every time I think I have a handle on it, or start to like a character, I get annoyed. I think it is the writing. I can't tell what the author is trying to accomplish. It seems like she(?) is drawing references from a bunch of fantasy books and not doing it very successfully. And then there are lines like this one-
"They are all so different, yet uniquely the same."
-What? Is it the lack of a good editor? Is it that I am not paying enough attention to the plot?
There are aspects of the world building that I like, and the magic has some potential, but it all seems so thrown together. Now there is a Hansel and Gretel witch's house in it?

Oh no, you are head of me. Honestly sentences like that don’t land the same when I’m listening to audio usually. Probably because I’m multi tasking?

I’m at the part where Lyric is just starting her journey to the other kingdom.

I’ve heard such great things about this series? I hope it turns around 🫣

I plan on listening to it at work today. Maybe I just need to relax and let the art flow over me, to badly quote William Hurt in The Big Chill. teehee

Ok, I have to say that the baddie is a pretty good one. The evil stepfather, and what he does to Darius is awful. Still not loving the world though. I almost finished today, but kind of lost interest. I will finish in the morning.

I’m about the middle. I’m having a hell of a time focusing on reading right now so it’s taking me longer than normal to get through anything.

I’m enjoying this to an extent but I’m not thinking too hard about any of the plot points. I can see this being a book I would rate lower if it was a BOM and I had to answer or come up with DQs.

I’m at the point where Lyric ends up having her bird take her to the city and she runs into Darius in the woods helping the old man with his wheel.

I’m curious how things develop with the step father. And the 10 years of straight rain. That seems like a complicated environmental problem 😬

I'm hoping to finish sometime tomorrow? but it may depend on if Cam is home from school due to another round of winter weather.

I finished, and I still am undecided how to feel about this book. I think I would have enjoyed it a lot more if it was either 150 pages shorter or 150 pages longer. There was sooooo much going on in this world (these worlds) that was unexplained or under explained that I just got confused. And I read complex, confusing books a lot that I have no problem following. I think it had potential, but something didn't work for me.

I think it was maybe the writing style. Or my mood. After all, I loved the Fourth Wing book, and it was very much not brilliant, but it was the perfect book for my mood at the time. Well, plus dragons, so already there was a leg up.

Anyway, I hope you are enjoying it and it is making your brain happier than it did mine.

Hmm, I was thinking of reading this book as an interesting premise but now not quite so sure. (I also hated Fourth Wing if that is a comparison).

It isn't like Fourth Wing, I was just using that as an example of a book that isn't very good, but I still liked.

I would wait for Judith's take before you decide. It just might have not been for me.

I'm enjoying it well enough but that might change by the end?

Also Jenny this book can be used for the lyric/poem task in LoTR challenge. You might as well get all the mileage you can since you read it :)

I ended up liking it well enough to continue the series. I find the world an interesting one. A little more predictable than I'd hoped but all in all it was a fun listen.

I removed it from my TBR for now.
