What's the Name of That Book??? discussion

I read this book 5-7 years ago and I only read 2/3 chapters but I really want to find it. This book had a red plastic cover and was about a man who had lost his wife for 1/2 days and was getting worried. He called the police and a female and a tall male police officer visited his home. The police entered his living room and the book described the living room there was a chess board in the room and it had an ongoing game between the man and his lost wife who was better at chess than him. One of the police talked about the chess board and what the next moves should be. Then they question the man about when he last saw his wife and when she went missing and in his story I remember him mentioning that they went shopping together in a car. This is all I remember I know it's not much but I've recently had the urge to find out what happened please help me
