Sofia ✧⋆ | 7 comments Do you prefer first person or third person for fantasy novels? Why?

message 2: by Sarah (new)

Sarah | 19 comments honestly, I like both but the writing has to be good. First person in fantasy is great because you live the experience really deeply almost instead of the character but this can turn annoying and selfish really quickly if the writing is not worked (I run, I do this, I have this...)
Third person is less common now but I feel like it's less self-centered and more descriptive, but the risk is to not feel close to the main character.

Jabotikaba | 502 comments It doesn't matter much. But I mostly read books written in the third person, because I like stories with complex plots and many POVs.

message 5: by Arielle (new)

Arielle Miller | 212 comments I generally prefer first person. But that's not a hard and fast rule.

message 6: by Nik (new)

Nik Vesely✨ | 210 comments both and I also like second pov, too.

message 7: by ℛℰ (new)

ℛℰ | 4 comments 1st person is easier to read for me because it immediately immerses me in the mind of the MC , however I think 3rd is better if the book leans towards more complicated world building

kitkat (inked-pages) | 223 comments i prefer 1st person in general, but i’ve found that if a book is in 3rd person, the character most likely has secrets that get revealed (especially in thrillers, romantasy, fantasy) 🫶🫶

message 9: by Kay (new)

Kay | 16 comments i like both, sometimes i don’t even realize the POV until i’m halfway through the book. but first person is easier to understand

message 10: by Elsie (new)

Elsie | 964 comments I seem to enjoy 1st person more. I can connect to the narrator on a deeper level than 3rd person, but I'll go for both!

✩₊˚ෆ Lily the Lilac ෆ˚₊✩ {Hematite} (lilythelilac) | 33 comments The writing style really makes a difference for me, but I typically prefer third-person

message 12: by Kristina (new)

Kristina Kamaeva | 85 comments Third person mostly. These books usually have more complicated plots. First person books can be well-written and thrilling, but some authors feel obliged to describe their character's every thought and action, and it gets tiresome.
