2nd: Jed who was consistent all season and gave Steve a run for his money. He earns $30.00 for the Great Barrier Reef Foundation.
3rd: Tim fills third position and earns another $20.00 for the Koala Hospital at Port Macquarie.
and the wooden spoon prize of $15.00 is safe in the hands of Suzy and Friends With Dignity.
Well done everyonet!!
We now get a week's rest before the finals. Punters whose teams are still alive are Duke, Suzy and Jed. But remember, all punters are still in the competition (if you wish to carry on) to pick winners and earn some cash for their charities. There are no prizes for closest margin or highest score, just $20.00 for the tipster who predicts the most wins with the lowest cumulative margins.

Eventually, the season will conclude with the Grand Final on Saturday, September 27.
Duke, Suzy and Jed still have teams to cheer on but all punters are still in the competition to pick winners and earn some cash for their charities. There are no prizes for closest margin or highest score, just $20.00 for the tipster who predicts the most wins with the lowest cumulative margins.
Qualifying and Elimination Finals:
(Qualifying: loser gets a second chance)
(Elimination: loser is out of the Finals)
This time I'd like you to choose the winning team AND the margin for ALL FOUR GAMES. Scoring will be one point for every winner picked and a sliding table based on the margins predicted for each game. There will (hopefully) be one winning punter after all games have been played. $20.00 to your charity is up for grabs.

Lions by 8. Again, but as I live here now should support them
Giants by 9
Dockers by 15
I am away for the following week so will try to do on my phone as will not be taking laptop. If need be, can I send my tips to Sussex to enter for me in case do not manage to reach this site on my phone. I am still not receiving any notifications.

Adelaide x 14
Brisbane x 12
GWS x 8
Fremantle x 18

FW1:
Crows - 8 points
Lions - 12 points
Giants - 5 points
Dockers - 15 points

Pies x 3
(Crows are everyone's favourites and on paper, they should account for the Pies, but I just can't write off Collingwood yet. My hero, Matthew Lloyd, (former star Bomber) has tipped the Crows, but always says prior experience in Finals is a must if you want to move up. I hope the latter is true this time. Jeremy Howe and Bobby Hill are big outs, but Mason Cox is a big (literally) in. The Crows will miss Izak Rankine's flair. Tipping the Pies to reverse the score of their last meeting.)
Lions x 9
(I'd love to see the Cats win but they've had a soft lead in to the Finals and Rhys Stanley is a question mark starter. Lachie Neale and Jarrod Berry are back for the Lions and they've shown they can win away, and at the G, this season.)
Hawks x 12
(Yes the Giants are at home but without Jack Buckley, Brent Daniels and Jesse Hogan. Hawks regain Josh Weddle and on their day can beat anyone.)
Freo x 13
(Again, I'd love to see the Suns win if only for David Swallow who has been such a loyal servant, retiring after 15 seasons and 247 games at the club - good on Damien Hardwick for recalling him - but I worry they may have celebrated to early after just getting into the Finals. Got to be Freo at home.)

Meanwhile in Adelaide....Pies are doing the Pie thing at the moment!

Adelaide Crows (available) v Collingwood Magpies (available)
2.1.13 (Q1) 2.3.15
5.1.31 (Q2) 5.7.37
8.4.52 (Q3) 10.11.71
8.7.55 (Q4) 11.13.79
Those pesky Pies - never discount them! It was a fiercely fought game and both teams will be feeling plenty aches and pains. Collingwood have a two weeks to recover from them.

There's been so much speculation about Hogan's foot - I wonder if they're throwing everything at this chance to advance further in the competition. I do hope he's 100% fit.

Geelong Cats (available) v Brisbane Lions (Jed)
4.6.30 (Q1) 3.0.18
8.11.59 (Q2) 7.2.44
13.12.90 (Q3) 9.5.59
16.16.112 (Q4) 11.8.74
The Cats dominated the game; every time you thought the Lions would turn things around, the Cats scored another goal. I tipped the Lions and would have been happy if they had won but some ridiculous umpiring which gifted Cam Raynor (Lions) two consecutive goals had me swearing at the TV and barracking non-stop for the Cats. Lachie Neale (Lions) went off with what looks like a calf injury and it's doubtful he'd be right for next week. Shaun Mannagh (Cats), who drew much amusement during the week when named the AFL Coaches' Association's Best Young Player - at the age of 28!! - played a blinder. He also limped off near the end but seemed happy enough after the final siren and hopefully the week off will have him back to peak fitness.

GWS Giants (Duke) v Hawthorn Hawks (available)
3.2.20 (Q1) 7.2.44
6.5.41 (Q2) 11.3.69
12.7.79 (Q3) 13.7.85
13.10.88 (Q4) 16.11.107
Another very exciting game. At half time you'd have thought the Hawks have got this but the Giants scored seven unanswered goals before Hawthorn settled and scored another three goals to cement the win. To add insult to injury, the Giants lost young Darcy Jones to a possible ACL injury.

Fremantle Dockers (available) v Gold Coast Suns (Suzy)
1.2.8 (Q1) 1.6.12
5.2.32 (Q2) 8.9.57
8.4.52 (Q3) 9.13.67
12.7.79 (Q4) 11.14.80
Well this game had everything. First quarter - almost no scoring. Second quarter - Suns take off. Third quarter - Freo come back strong, three goals to the Suns' one. Final quarter - Freo takes the lead, Suns equalise, is it going to be a draw?? Then the fairy tale - with 9 seconds left on the clock, substitute player David Swallow who has already announced his retirement (15 seasons and 247 games at this club and never played in a Final) takes a mark, lines up for goal (pretty far out), kicks accurately through the big sticks but a goal review is called for. Turns out the ball was touched on the way through so it's just the one point, but the Suns hang on and win by a point. Whew!
EDIT: From Wiki : "Swallow is the first and, as of 2024, only player to play premiership matches at 22 different VFL/AFL venues."
