"BALL UP!" - Val's 2025 Aussie Rules Footy Tipping *Open to Everyone*

Dons x 2 (I'm not one of those supporters who tips their own team week in week out but I'm chancing my arm that it's third time lucky. After the shellacking they've received from the pundits, the media and even the fans this week, surely they have to show some backbone)
Blues (likewise, they have to come good sometime and the Dogs still have so many of their best players out)
Dees (once again, they can't play as badly as they did last week and I'm not yet sold on the Suns)
Saints (sure thing surely)
Giants (going for the bigger bodies but it is in Tassie where the Hawks usually play well)
Lions (although Geelong have beaten them up there and rain may favour the Cats)
Crows (reluctantly - would love to see North reproduce last week's play)
Freo

Essendon Bombers (Val) v Port Adelaide Power (available)
2.5.17 (Q1) 3.5.23
3.9.27 (Q2) 4.6.30
5.14.44 (Q3) 7.8.50
9.18.72 (Q4) 8.12.60
Well sometimes it does pay off to keep the faith - not financially (that accolade goes to Suzy who wins another $8.00 for Friends With Dignity) but at least spiritually. It wasn't a pretty win and even with seven minutes to go I was wondering just how many ways we could lose. Port weren't at their best but some of that comes down to Essendon's pressure. At least my boys stood up and played out all four quarters even if they were still fumbling and missing easy passes. Kako has lovely clean hands and I've been a big fan of Xavier Dursma since Port offloaded him to us. It was a nerve-wracking evening but I'm very happy.

It's a nice feeling when it is a young team.

Tonight's result:

7.7.49 (Q3) 7.6.48
10.10.70 (Q4) 9.7.61
Didn't see the Dees/Suns game but obviously a blow out. The Tigers were competitive up until half time but after that it was another rout. The game in Tassie was very wind-affected - the Hawks didn't even manage a goal in the first quarter. However, never say die with the Hawks - yet again they were pretty awesome. The Lions too were slow starters but Geelong never got going again after half time. My tips are lousy!

Adelaide Crows (available) v North Melbourne Kangaroos (Steve)
4.1.25 (Q1) 3.3.21
8.5.53 (Q2) 5.5.35
13.8.86 (Q3) 9.5.59

7.5.47 (Q3) 12.11.83
10.8.68 (Q4) 15.16.106
Pretty much as expected but at least neither game was a drubbing.

ADELAIDE CROWS: Robbed yet again.
BRISBANE LIONS: Ashcroft for AA (All-Australian team)?
CARLTON: Same sad story.
COLLINGWOOD: (Dan) Houston hasn’t learned.
ESSENDON: Had the bye.
FREMANTLE: Finally looked right.
GEELONG: Solid, not spectacular.
GOLD COAST SUNS: Finals. It’s time.
GWS GIANTS: (Jesse) Hogan (GWS) rocked (Sandy) Brock (Eagles).
HAWTHORN: Had the bye.
MELBOURNE: Trac’s (Christian Petracca) emotion understandable.
NORTH MELBOURNE: A step backwards.
PORT ADELAIDE: Falling apart already.
RICHMOND: Plenty of positives.
ST KILDA: Take them seriously.
SYDNEY SWANS: Reminder - they’re good.
WEST COAST EAGLES: Another painful lesson.
WESTERN BULLDOGS: (Sam) Darcy scary good.

Very happy with my Giants performance. They were going to get a margin boosting easy win, I was expecting them to win by at least 10 goals, they got 13 plus change by the final whistle. But how amazing was Josh Hogan today? He alone scored nearly half of the 20 the team got, supreme performance from him today. Didn't expect Kilda to win though, that one surprised me. And Tazz shouldn't feel too bad about his Dogs..that was a very tight game, could've gone either way. Freo were down a man towards the end i think, apparently they over spent on the interchanges!

Thursday April 10
Adelaide Crows v Geelong Cats (Adelaide Oval)

Collingwood Magpies
Gold Coast Suns
Carlton Blues
Brisbane Lions
Melbourne Demons
Fremantle Dockers
GWS Giants
Hawthorn Hawks

Not much support for Swans on tipping so far and I do not blame anyone. They had 8 players out last week that would start and not improved much this week. Gulden out until after mid-season bye and Papley not far behind. Cunningham could be back but more likely a week or so away. At least the young brigade who have come in have performed well above expectations so that is a huge plus and our squad suddenly seems to have more depth. However, I do fear the Pies will be too good and given our most recent performance at the Adelaide Oval was a disaster I expect this is hanging over a lot of the players. I cannot recall many victories for the Swans at this wonderful venue in my time in Australia. Ladhams in particular is constantly reminded that his only game last season was in that match in Adelaide against Port which resulted in a 112 point loss.

Crows by 19
Swans....a miracle and to bury those memories of last season
Suns...think now they are the real deal and have some luck also
Blues....surely they must win this one
Lions...ageing a bit but still look good
Bombers...Tricky one, who has least confidence
Dockers
Giants
Hawks

My tips:
Crows x 22 (I was going to tip the Crows anyway (I'm sure they're still bitter about that wrong umpiring decisions which cost them the game last week) but with both Tom Stewart and Jack Henry missing from their backline, I can't see how they're going to stop the crows' fire power.
Swans (the kids have nothing to lose and Collingwood is old and injury-ridden)
Suns (shoe-in!)
Blues (another shoe-in)
Lions (it'll be a worry if they don't win)
Dons (with heart in mouth; I've seriously considered tipping the Dees for this one)
Freo (another shoe-in)
GWS (need to show their mettle)
Hawks (tipped to be a "feral" re-match. Port under a lot of pressure in their home town could just turn it on this week)

Adelaide Crows (available) v Geelong Cats (available)
5.3.33 (Q1) 4.4.28
11.6.72 (Q2) 9.6.60
14.10.94 (Q3) 13.8.86
15.10.100 (Q4) 17.9.119
What an exciting game! At half time you'd have been thinking how much are the Crows going to win by but the Geelong team was like an annoying mosquito - they just would not go away. They came back from 30 points down in front of a sold-out, rabid Adelaide crowd and came away with a three goal win! Unbelievable!
Once again it is Suzy taking home the cash - another $8.00 for Friends With Dignity. Well done girl!

The Cats gained nearly all centre bounces from about mid-way through the second quarter when over 30 points down and turned the game on its head fairly quickly.

I know exactly how you feel about your Dons, but I am certain they can overcome the Demons who are going backwards fast.
I have got my ticket for the Suns match in 2 weeks and whilst do not think we will win it would be great to go to another AFL venue. There are not that many these days, but I have been to the SCG (obviously), MCG, Marvel, Adelaide Oval, The Gabba, Hobart and Cazalys Stadium in Cairns which have a couple of matches a season but not sure if this counts as it was for an Elton John concert. Strangely never been to Engie Stadium (as it is now known) where the Giants reside when not playing in Canberra, although been outside both of these grounds. Also, although not used much these days for AFL, the Olympic Stadium in Sydney where the Swans had to play a requisite number of matches a season until around 2016 as part of the original Stadium deal. Horrid especially if less than 30000 fans.
Need to get to Perth one season as the stadium (Optus) looks very impressive. My wife has actually been but that was for a works conference.
Did you see Luke Beveridge on Tuesday night's Footy Classified (Channel 9)? I thought he was excellent - answered every question openly and spoke so well. I've been critical of his press conferences in the past but no more. He is obviously a good leader of young men.
