Tim Watts (redswatts) | 551 comments I went for a few long shots and clearly picked the wrong ones. Swans abysmal and should practise kicking for goal all week. A dreadful week for me personally and will need to pick up my game this week?
There were a few poor decisions but no excuses. How could we give (I think it was 5) 50m penalties away is beyond me although a couple were highly questionable? Still well below what is required at this standard and a big improvement for Dean Cox is necessary.
And for Sussex a good week especially getting the margin so close and the Eagles just agonisingly missing out.
GWS fought magnificently and that was a well-deserved win.

theDuke | 6492 comments Round 10:

Suns - 9 pts (Humid conditions suit the Suns, but not discounting Hawks pulling an upset here)

Blues (got no faith in the poorly Swans, but Carlton haven't won at Sydney in a long time, maybe it's long over due?)

Magpies - Crows could win this one, but hard not to tip against the pesky pies!

Cats (Port might pull a surprise win here, but their form ain't great)

GWS (time to climb the ladder again boys! :)

Bulldogs (both love playing at Marvel, Dogs just in better shape)

Tigers - just can't trust the Roos, last week's game was more on the Lions' poor 2nd half performance than anything North did, i think Richmond can do this.

Lions (would be just typical if Brisbane drops this one wouldn't it?! But it's at the Gabba.)

Saints (one of West Coast's best chances for a win, but sticking with the favs.)

Still in the Gauntlet, so...er....Saints.

You are of course right! Thanks for keeping me on my toes. Here's the revised ladder (I've still given Sussex $14 to the Save The Bilby Fund because it just seemed mean to retract it).

Our tipsters' ladder is as follows:

ROUND NINE (first number is correct number of wins - you want this to be high; number in brackets is the cumulative margin which is used to separate punters on the same amount of points - you want this to be low)

Sj Brooke (Steve) on 7 (13)
SussexWelsh on 6 (0)
Jed on 6 (2)
Val on 6 (17)
Duke on 5 (23)
Philip on 5 (33)
Tim on 4 (22)
Anita on 4 (33)
Suzy on 3 (7)
Tazz on 2 (33)

Charity donations are:
Suzy (Friends With Dignity) - A$8.00 - Highest score (Suns - 106)
SussexWelsh (Save The Bilby Fund) - A$8.00 (closest margin)
SussexWelsh (Save The Bilby Fund) & Steve (Backpack Bed For Homeless) - A$14.00 (weekly winner)

CUMULATIVE LADDER:

Jed on 54 (241)
Sj Brooke (Steve) on 54 (252)
Tim on 52 (261)
SussexWelsh on 52 (275)
Val on 50 (235)
Duke on 46 (313)
Philip on 46 (321)
Anita on 44 (354)
Tazz on 32 (408)
Suzy on 24 (176)

Val H. | 22149 comments Tonight's result:

Gold Coast Suns (Suzy) v Hawthorn Hawks (available)
5.2.32 (Q1) 2.0.12
9.4.58 (Q2) 7.2.44
11.6.72 (Q3) 12.3.75
16.8.104 (Q4) 15.6.96

I haven't really watched the Suns this season but I sat glued to all four quarters. A very tight and exciting game and if I can believe Google, the temperature was 26 degrees with 60% humidity. Both teams gave it their all. In the first quarter you would have thought the Suns by how much. But the genius that is (coach) Sam Mitchell moved a few positions and suddenly the Hawks were right in it. Three tipsters picked the Suns by 9 points so $8.00 goes to each of Backpack Bed For Homeless (Steve), Save The Bilby Fund (Sussex) and Centre For Eye Research Australia (Duke). Great work you three!

theDuke | 6492 comments sighs.......terrible performance from the Giants today, what on earth has happened to them, and on their own turf! Maybe GWS should just concentrate on away games, they seem to do those well...terrible performance from them today. Dockers will be happy, they've never won at the Engie stadium, so a commentator mentioned.

Val H. | 22149 comments Last night's result:

Sydney Swans (Anita) v Carlton Blues (available)
3.2.20 (Q1) 4.2.26
5.3.33 (Q2) 6.4.40
6.7.43 (Q3) 7.6.48
11.12.78 (Q4) 9.8.62

Today's results (so far):

Collingwood Magpies (available) v Adelaide Crows (available)
4.3.27 (Q1) 3.2.20
6.7.43 (Q2) 6.2.38
9.9.63 (Q3) 7.5.47
11.12.78 (Q4) 10.8.68

Port Adelaide Power (available) v Geelong Cats (available)
2.4.16 (Q1) 3.1.19
3.6.24 (Q2) 5.3.33
4.9.33 (Q3) 10.9.69
5.9.39 (Q4) 17.13.115

GWS Giants (Duke) v Fremantle Dockers (available)
2.4.16 (Q1) 3.4.22
4.5.29 (Q2) 5.10.40
4.10.34 (Q3) 8.15.63
8.13.61 (Q4) 13.17.95

I watched a bit of last night's game and was quite underwhelmed. Carlton started much better but couldn't seem to show that on the scoreboard. Neither team coped with the slippery ground and ball and many of the "stars" on both teams seemed very out of touch. I gave up in the third quarter.

And I only caught a bit of the Cats/Port game. Eerie quiet from the outer as Port let the Cats walk all over them. Some costly injuries to both sides though.

Some of these results are making Essendon look good! At least four teams below them on the ladder are better than the Dons (IMO).

message 321: by theDuke (last edited May 17, 2025 06:08AM) (new)

theDuke | 6492 comments You won't be happy with what the Cats did to your Bombers today then Val. Both of us down in dumps with lack lustre teams performances today. GWS should've wiped the floor with Fremantle today, i just don't understand what going on with GWS atm. All that talent, yet just one win out of 5 games, pathetic.

Just heard that former West Coast player Adam Selwood passed away at the age 41 today, just 3 months after his twin brother Troy of Brisbane Lions died. I don't know what the cause of death is, but i do know that Troy committed suicide. How tragically sad and awful for the family.

15.13.103 (Q3) 4.4.28
18.16.124 (Q4) 5.4.34

The Bombers were well and truly put back in their place tonight. A superb showing by the Bulldogs. Injuries and umpiring are no excuses - all teams face the same problems. Essendon will struggle to beat any of the teams above them on the ladder. Horrible to watch.

Val H. | 22149 comments I only had half an ear open for today's games. My daughter and family were at the G to support Richmond (3 year old T's first game) - at least it was an exciting finish even if their team didn't get up. With the Lions leading all day I was confident they would win as I busied myself in the kitchen. Couldn't believe it when I heard the final result. And at last the Eagles get a win under their belt.

20.7.127 (Q4) 16.17.113

Great game down at Kardinia Park tonight. At one stage the Cats led by 5 goals. At another stage, the Dogs were in the lead. But the Cats had the answer to most of the Dogs' moves and kicking straight always helps.

Congrats to Tim for getting the closest margin. $8.00 going to the Koala Hospital at Port Macquarie.

message 339: by Tim (new)

Tim Watts (redswatts) | 551 comments My margin tipping is usually way off so nice to be closest for once. It's amazing how many times that margin can blow out in the final few minutes of matches. This one was very exciting and high quality.
Dogs will be rueing the behinds especially the 3 or 4 posters they managed to hit. The final count of 33 scoring shots for the Dogs against 27 for the Cats was much closer than it had been at many stages.

message 340: by Val (new)

Val H. | 22149 comments Gee it's hard work watching the Dreamtime game at the G tonight. Both Richmond and Essendon are demonstrating just how far back in the competition they are. I know they're both young, inexperienced sides but the skill level is abysmal. Essendon don't seem to be able to hold the ball at all. If fumbles were a statistic, they'd be top of the table!

message 341: by Val (new)

Val H. | 22149 comments Tonight's result:

Essendon Bombers (Val) v Richmond Tigers (Philip)

6.4.40 (Q2) 4.7.31
9.8.62 (Q3) 7.8.50
11.15.81 (Q4) 8.10.58

Tonight Essendon are in the eight. Such a travesty as no way do they deserve a place there. The rest of the weekend's games, plus their trip to Brisbane next week, should put them back where they belong. And their cause won't be helped by injuries to Kyle Langford and Zach Reid. Just hope they can pick up a couple of match-ready players in next week's mid-season draft.

message 342: by theDuke (last edited May 23, 2025 09:00AM) (new)

theDuke | 6492 comments Oh dear..not a fab start...although Richmond did look pretty good for 3 quarters, but had their classic forth quarter fade off. Bombers are back in the eight again! I am not feeling confident for GWS...but Captain Toby Greene will be taking midfield position against Carlton, to bolster up that midfield that's lacking Kelly, Flanagan & Coniglio for the next few weeks. Seems to be GWS's weakness atm.

BRISBANE LIONS: A champion’s response.

ESSENDON: Just enough, again.

FREMANTLE: Finally some consistency.

GEELONG: Jezza’s (Jeremy Cameron) form scary.

GOLD COAST SUNS: Marvel (stadium) curse finished.

GWS GIANTS: Toby’s (Greene) perfect party.

HAWTHORN: Time to worry?

MELBOURNE: Might be legit?

NORTH MELBOURNE: Couldn’t hang on.

PORT ADELAIDE: Sliding into irrelevancy.

RICHMOND: Kids learning lessons.

ST KILDA: Cost themselves chance.

SYDNEY SWANS: Should’ve been worse.

WEST COAST EAGLES: Back to reality.

WESTERN BULLDOGS: Another frustrating thriller.

Tim Watts (redswatts) | 551 comments Disgraceful performance by the Swans. Inept and injuries cannot be used for such a performance. Dean Cox has a lot to turnaround and quickly. I wonder what John Longmire is thinking. Apart from that match some excellent games.
