"BALL UP!" - Val's 2025 Aussie Rules Footy Tipping *Open to Everyone*

ADELAIDE CROWS: Breathe. (Irishman Mark) Keane as.
BRISBANE LIONS: What on earth?
CARLTON: Happy for Harry (McKay).
COLLINGWOOD: They’re the favourites.
ESSENDON: Beating teams below.
FREMANTLE: Positives... more negatives.
GEELONG: Giants own GMHBA (their home ground).
GOLD COAST SUNS: Kings of humidity (playing in the Darwin heat).
GWS GIANTS: (Jesse) Hogan squash, brother.
HAWTHORN: Hoodoo finally over.
MELBOURNE: Great for three.
NORTH MELBOURNE: Wins will come.
PORT ADELAIDE: That fourth quarter...
RICHMOND: Spoon avoided already.
ST KILDA: Expected slightly more.
SYDNEY SWANS: Brainfades, blunders. Bad.
WEST COAST EAGLES: Painful... Gross talented.
WESTERN BULLDOGS: Acceptable. JOD (James O'Donnell) emerging.

There were a few poor decisions but no excuses. How could we give (I think it was 5) 50m penalties away is beyond me although a couple were highly questionable? Still well below what is required at this standard and a big improvement for Dean Cox is necessary.
And for Sussex a good week especially getting the margin so close and the Eagles just agonisingly missing out.
GWS fought magnificently and that was a well-deserved win.

Suns by 26
Swans although little confidence
Pies
Port..tough one
Giants
Bulldogs
North Melbourne
Lions
Saints...just

Suns - 9 pts (Humid conditions suit the Suns, but not discounting Hawks pulling an upset here)
Blues (got no faith in the poorly Swans, but Carlton haven't won at Sydney in a long time, maybe it's long over due?)
Magpies - Crows could win this one, but hard not to tip against the pesky pies!
Cats (Port might pull a surprise win here, but their form ain't great)
GWS (time to climb the ladder again boys! :)
Bulldogs (both love playing at Marvel, Dogs just in better shape)
Tigers - just can't trust the Roos, last week's game was more on the Lions' poor 2nd half performance than anything North did, i think Richmond can do this.
Lions (would be just typical if Brisbane drops this one wouldn't it?! But it's at the Gabba.)
Saints (one of West Coast's best chances for a win, but sticking with the favs.)
Still in the Gauntlet, so...er....Saints.

Sydney Swans
Collingwood Magpies
Geelong Cats
GWS Giants
Western Bulldogs
North Melbourne Kangaroos
Brisbane Lions
St Kilda Saints

You are of course right! Thanks for keeping me on my toes. Here's the revised ladder (I've still given Sussex $14 to the Save The Bilby Fund because it just seemed mean to retract it).
Our tipsters' ladder is as follows:
ROUND NINE (first number is correct number of wins - you want this to be high; number in brackets is the cumulative margin which is used to separate punters on the same amount of points - you want this to be low)
Sj Brooke (Steve) on 7 (13)
SussexWelsh on 6 (0)
Jed on 6 (2)
Val on 6 (17)
Duke on 5 (23)
Philip on 5 (33)
Tim on 4 (22)
Anita on 4 (33)
Suzy on 3 (7)
Tazz on 2 (33)
Charity donations are:
Suzy (Friends With Dignity) - A$8.00 - Highest score (Suns - 106)
SussexWelsh (Save The Bilby Fund) - A$8.00 (closest margin)
SussexWelsh (Save The Bilby Fund) & Steve (Backpack Bed For Homeless) - A$14.00 (weekly winner)
CUMULATIVE LADDER:
Jed on 54 (241)
Sj Brooke (Steve) on 54 (252)
Tim on 52 (261)
SussexWelsh on 52 (275)
Val on 50 (235)
Duke on 46 (313)
Philip on 46 (321)
Anita on 44 (354)
Tazz on 32 (408)
Suzy on 24 (176)

Gold Coast Suns (Suzy) v Hawthorn Hawks (available)
5.2.32 (Q1) 2.0.12
9.4.58 (Q2) 7.2.44
11.6.72 (Q3) 12.3.75
16.8.104 (Q4) 15.6.96
I haven't really watched the Suns this season but I sat glued to all four quarters. A very tight and exciting game and if I can believe Google, the temperature was 26 degrees with 60% humidity. Both teams gave it their all. In the first quarter you would have thought the Suns by how much. But the genius that is (coach) Sam Mitchell moved a few positions and suddenly the Hawks were right in it. Three tipsters picked the Suns by 9 points so $8.00 goes to each of Backpack Bed For Homeless (Steve), Save The Bilby Fund (Sussex) and Centre For Eye Research Australia (Duke). Great work you three!

You are of course right! Thanks for keeping me on my toes. Here's the revised ladder (I've still given Sussex $14 to the Save The Bilby Fund because it just seemed mean to retract it)"
Aww, thank you so much, Val. That is extra generous!! :-)

4.10.34 (Q3) 8.15.63
8.13.61 (Q4) 13.17.95
I watched a bit of last night's game and was quite underwhelmed. Carlton started much better but couldn't seem to show that on the scoreboard. Neither team coped with the slippery ground and ball and many of the "stars" on both teams seemed very out of touch. I gave up in the third quarter.
And I only caught a bit of the Cats/Port game. Eerie quiet from the outer as Port let the Cats walk all over them. Some costly injuries to both sides though.
Some of these results are making Essendon look good! At least four teams below them on the ladder are better than the Dons (IMO).

Just heard that former West Coast player Adam Selwood passed away at the age 41 today, just 3 months after his twin brother Troy of Brisbane Lions died. I don't know what the cause of death is, but i do know that Troy committed suicide. How tragically sad and awful for the family.

Western Bulldogs (Tazz) v Essendon Bombers (Val)
7.3.45 (Q1) 0.3.3
10.8.68 (Q2) 1.3.9
15.13.103 (Q3) 4.4.28
18.16.124 (Q4) 5.4.34
The Bombers were well and truly put back in their place tonight. A superb showing by the Bulldogs. Injuries and umpiring are no excuses - all teams face the same problems. Essendon will struggle to beat any of the teams above them on the ladder. Horrible to watch.

Today's results:
Richmond Tigers (Philip) v North Melbourne Kangaroos (Steve)
2.1.13 (Q1) 6.0.36
6.2.38 (Q2) 7.1.43

ADELAIDE CROWS: Pies hoodoo lives.
BRISBANE LIONS: Percentage doesn’t lie.
CARLTON: Attack looked woeful.
COLLINGWOOD: (Jeremy) Howe bloody good?
ESSENDON: Not this again...
FREMANTLE: Shai (Bolton) worth it.
GEELONG: Rest up, Danger (Dangerfield).
GOLD COAST SUNS: Suuuuurely playing finals.
GWS GIANTS: Midfield real problem.
HAWTHORN: Lost no fans.
MELBOURNE: Fourth quarter spectacular.
NORTH MELBOURNE: Bottom two escapable!
PORT ADELAIDE: Thumping trend critical.
RICHMOND: Pecking order restored.
ST KILDA: Still hate travelling.
SYDNEY SWANS: (Joel) Amartey’s act stupid.
WEST COAST EAGLES: Brilliant. Needed that.
WESTERN BULLDOGS: They’re genuine contenders.

Essendon Bombers
GWS Giants
Hawthorn Hawks
Collingwood Pies
Freo Dockers
Adelaide Crows
Melbourne Demons
Gold Coast Suns

Tough one to start as Dogs on hot run at moment and Cats not been so great but at the Cattery???
Cats by 11
Bombers
Giants
Hawks
Pies
Dockers
Crows
Swans.... stretched by stupid suspensions and as yet (apart from Mills perhaps) no injury returns
Suns

Dogs x 7 (although I'll probably be barracking for the Cats)
Dons (mainly because Balta and Lynch are missing from the Tigers; hopefully they won't be as woeful as last week)
Blues
Hawks
Pies
Freo
Crows
Dees
Suns

Geelong Cats (available) v Western Bulldogs (Tazz)
5.1.31 (Q1) 5.4.34
11.4.70 (Q2) 6.9.45
16.5.101 (Q3) 13.13.91
20.7.127 (Q4) 16.17.113
Great game down at Kardinia Park tonight. At one stage the Cats led by 5 goals. At another stage, the Dogs were in the lead. But the Cats had the answer to most of the Dogs' moves and kicking straight always helps.
Congrats to Tim for getting the closest margin. $8.00 going to the Koala Hospital at Port Macquarie.

Dogs will be rueing the behinds especially the 3 or 4 posters they managed to hit. The final count of 33 scoring shots for the Dogs against 27 for the Cats was much closer than it had been at many stages.

Essendon Bombers (Val) v Richmond Tigers (Philip)
2.1.13 (Q1) 1.2.8
6.4.40 (Q2) 4.7.31
9.8.62 (Q3) 7.8.50
11.15.81 (Q4) 8.10.58
Tonight Essendon are in the eight. Such a travesty as no way do they deserve a place there. The rest of the weekend's games, plus their trip to Brisbane next week, should put them back where they belong. And their cause won't be helped by injuries to Kyle Langford and Zach Reid. Just hope they can pick up a couple of match-ready players in next week's mid-season draft.
