The ones I could think of on the top of my head are mostly from China:
Wish Lanterns: Young Lives in New China
Factory Girls: From Village to City in a Changing China
The Corpse Walker: Real Life Stories, China from the Bottom Up
The Shanghai Free Taxi: Journeys with the Hustlers and Rebels of the New China, this one about women in prison The Prison Teacher: Stories from Britain's Most Notorious Women's Prison and this one about former extremists Far Out: Encounters With Extremists. Crime related books would be great, travel/anthropology related ones also, but I'm really open to any topic as long as it's in a similar format.

Jade | 258 comments No, it doesn't have to be straight-up interviews, it could be a journalist relaying people's stories or people telling their own stories.

Jade | 258 comments Thank you! Will definitely try to borrow The Traveling Couch, Downeast and maybe more of those.

The Call of the Weird: Travels in American Subcultures and The Widow, The Priest and The Octopus Hunter: Discovering a Lost Way of Life on a Secluded Japanese Island probably fits this as well.
