If you start a book before April, you will only be able to count the pages that you read in April for this challenge. If the page amount is over 100 pages, you can still count it towards a category.
When signing up, please mention the number of books you plan on reading each month. This number will make it easier for me to make teams match up a bit more evenly. If you want to be on a team with someone, please let me know.
For example,
Alaina - 20 books
Aly - 25 books
Jamie - 10 books
Jessica - 15 books

Hey Hannah! No worries if you're a slower reader (me too!). The reason we ask for a book count is to make teams as even as possible so everyone can compete without one team winning all the time. More fun that way!

Gotcha - I'd love to give this a try then! Put me down for 4 bpm :D

Hi Susan! Just to clarify, do you mean 25 books each month or 25 total across the challenge?

I have been averaging about 3-4 books a week.

I'm going to be conservative and say 6bpm because of my absolute failure to review anything... maybe this will get my butt in gear!

Middle-earth Roadtrip!
This quarterly challenge, you are in the place of the Fellowship from Lord of the Rings. You and your team will travel through various locations in Middle-earth, meet allies, and defeat enemies to drop the One Ring in the top of Mount Doom and save the world.
The challenge will begin at midnight on April 1st and end at 11:59 on June 30th. When signing up, please let me know how many books you think you can read per week. This can be an estimate and is just used to make teams.
—----------------------------------------------------------------
How to Play:
Players will be divided into teams to read for weekly tasks. Each week will be a new location with a new set of tasks. Each team begins in one of three starting locations: The Shire, Rivendell, or Erebor. After the first week, a new location will be chosen at random for you to travel to—there are more locations than weeks, so not all teams will go to all locations. Every team will end in the same location on week 13: Mount Doom!
Each location will have 8 tasks. Any task can be repeated as many times as you like for that location. Each week you will also encounter one enemy or one ally character. Your team must read a certain number of pages per character to “complete” them. Failure to complete an enemy means mods will spin a random wheel and deduct penalty points; completing the enemy avoids this penalty. Allies are the opposite. Completing an ally will award random bonus points, while failure to complete the ally will give no bonuses. Books used towards the page count of an enemy or ally cannot count for one of the week’s tasks. Your team may decide not to read for an enemy/ally at all, but you will then either face the penalty or miss the opportunity for bonuses.
Teams will receive a spreadsheet of tasks once they’ve been assigned. The new location with its assigned tasks will be added to the spreadsheet at the start of the week. Once the week is over, the previous location(s) will be closed. Since this is a quarterly challenge, you can bank books for future weeks if they fit a certain upcoming task, or if they fit no current task and you wish to count them towards the ally/enemy page total for the next week.
