Chapter 14: (view spoiler)[ I am convinced at this point DI Adams needs someone who is knowledgeable about the occult that she can rely on for information. There is too much that she doesn't know about and she isn't learning quick enough. Do we know if she comes from a witch background and isn't aware of it? (hide spoiler)]

Been listening to this and enjoying it... not much to say...

I just kinda love how DI Adams has this whole secret life outside the Beaufort Scales books, and prefers dealing with supes without the TWI tramping around causing a ruckus, lol...

Finished: (view spoiler)[ This one seemed very easy to predict. I liked how Dandy was prominent throughout the story. I started thinking that this reminded me a bit of the Helen Harper series we are reading. (hide spoiler)]

She doesn't have the WI to turn to for help though. I felt bad for her because she seems a bit on her own.

Yea... that should get better in the next book... I think Manor of Life and Death happens between books, and her cop partner learns the truth...

Read this yesterday and enjoyed. I'd really like her to meet up with Gobbelino & co. Casey? Corey? Forgot the dude's name. I kept thinking that this was seriously reminding me of that series more than the Beaufort Scales one... more on his side of the supernatural scene, with (view spoiler)[magic and humanoid magic users, spellbooks and cursed objects... This especially reminded me of the first Gobbelino book, with a case to recover a missing item... that is more than it appears... just in Adams's case, she's on an official police case, and is only dabbling with the supernatural world...

Loved Dandy breathing on her partner's neck and weirding him out. LOL And it was interesting how even other people who are "in" on the supernatural world couldn't see him.

One of my favorite scenes was the auction scene, with all the supernatural creatures (especially the tentacle lady) who got all up in arms over "worker rights!" when Adams & co were trying to hide... (hide spoiler)]

I started this one. Through Ch 3 (view spoiler)[It's funny how Adams knows there is something supernatural going on and she still tries to suppress the knowledge. As if that's going to help her headache lol After the London events, dragons and an invisible dog, you'd think she'd just lean in already! (hide spoiler)]

I was wondering given the setting if Adams would run into anyone from the Gobbelino series. Sounds like not yet. Bummer.

She might've. I don't remember anyone's name except for Gobbelino. And Calum! That was his name. Not even that lady-cat... can't remember her name.

Listened to this today and I was so happy (view spoiler)[DANDY IS BACK!!!! I didn't realize how much I missed him int he last book until he showed in this one <3 And Beaufort made an appearance at the end, it makes sense to have him hide the necklace and book. I was kind of hoping the ladies in the WI would somehow make an appearance but just a few references. I really enjoyed it, (hide spoiler)]

I also don't remember who Adams's partner is in Beaufort...

Loved all those "ladies of a certain age" references though...

Through Ch 17 (view spoiler)[I am still frustrated with Adams but at least she's willing to accept the magical angle even if she still refuses to SEE. I really hope we don't go more books like this.

I thought she'd've accepted around the time she got her little furry companion... was that book 3?

Manor is book 3... Dandy is end of book 2 I think... And this is between 2 & 3...

Book 2 is the one with the goblin mail thieves...

Early on she still wanted normal life... Later she's like what are you dragging me into this time?

She still gets frustrated when the ladies of the WI do dumb shit and interfere in her investigations lol

What's really bugging the crap out of me is (view spoiler)[with the events in London, believing in dragons and other folk with the WI Institute for 3 books and living with a mythical dog, Adams still thinks she can live a "normal" life as a "normal" person. At this point being aware but refusing to see is more of a detriment, especially given her line of work, and likely to get her killed. At some point her stubbornness has got to give in and accept reality.

Obviously she pulls through somewhat given there's already 2 more books in this series and however many in Beaufort but my god I don't want to read about Adams being willfully blind for any more books at this point. She seemed accepting enough in Beaufort 4 so I have some hope for DI Adams 2. (hide spoiler)]

Me and Rachel discussed that a month ago, and I didn't want to start a chronological reread until next year when we know when the final DI Adams book is coming out...

Finished! (view spoiler)[I am really glad Adams is finally committed to her new role in protecting all aspects of society. And that even her new boss is in on the folk aspect of things. I wonder if to get to DCI you have to be in the know. It would make sense.

Nirkatze, I agree. This reminded me a lot of the first Gobbelino book with the sorcerer's stuff being stolen. While we don't meet any of the characters from that series, there is a nod at the end to the progressive troll that reminds me of Poppy. I'm glad Beaufort has a way to keep the trinkets locked up. Makes sense a dragon could do it!

I totally called it being Lindsay. For someone who has been doing such a good job at corruption for years, she sure botched this one in the end lol (hide spoiler)]

My reread enthusiasm is mostly for complex trilogies where the next/last book is out.. Beaufort Scales is... not that. I need another year at least.
