April 2025 Goals & Quarter 2 Setup

1. Finish rereading "Catching Fire" and "Mockingjay" – this would conclude my Hunger Games reread and I'll finally be able to get to "Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes" and "Sunrise at the Reaping", although whether I get to those two in April or later I won't be too strict about (though hopefully April or May).
2. Try to read at least six books this month. I managed this in February, so I don't see why I shouldn't manage it in April, too. I'll count my rereads towards this number if I lose the 'effective reading mood' I currently feel I'm in, but I'd prefer to read six new books in addition to those two.
3. Get back on BookTube. I was planning on doing this in March, but with my struggle with getting any reading done I lost motivation in that area, too. But it would be nice to get back into the motions of making videos.
4. I'll be moving this summer – exact date not decided – and April is really the only month where I'll have time to go through my bookshelves and get rid of books I don't want to bring with me. This might affect my physical TBR, but we'll see. The idea is to:
-first, get rid of the read books that I genuinely don't see myself ever rereading, or that I just don't feel represent me as a reader anymore (i.e. books I have no attachment to, that I've grown away from as a reader; books that I might have thought were OK at the time, but that I know if I reread them today I wouldn't enjoy).
-second, to get rid of unread books I know I will never get too. I have unread books from more than a decade ago that I no longer have any interest in reading, and they're taking up precious space. It's time to give them to someone else who will hopefully love them.
I'm the kind of reader who only wants the books I like on my shelves; I don't want books on my shelves that I don't genuinely love (or 100% think I'm going to love). I don't think we're talking about an enormous amount of books being picked away, but I'm excited to look at my shelves and only see books I love or am so so excited to get to!
I have one particularly intense work week this month, where I don't know how much reading I'll be able to get done, but other than that I don't really have too much going on, so I'm hopeful I'll be able to manage everything on my list.
Good luck with your goals this month, everyone!

1. Read more than two books this month -- I've realized that I'm a much slower reader than I once was, so depending on the length of the book it takes me a smooth minute to finish one.
2. Continue to read the physical books I have -- I've currently boxed up a lot of my books to ship back to California, so the ones I chose to keep with me in NYC are ones I need to read and decide if I want to keep them or not.
3. Read Beloved by Toni Morrison -- I have been saying I would read one of her books for the longest time and I just need to push myself to finally do it.
4. Resist the urge to buy any new books... I do not need anything new. I have too many to read and I don't need to add more to my pile of books to ship out. But this will be the hardest goal to keep, lol.
Good luck everyone with your goals this month!

For TBR books, I plan to continue reading at least 1 book per week, which I've done pretty consistently so far this year.

3 days into the month and I already failed goal #4 ... I bought two books off of PangoBooks :D all because I want to reread The Atlas Six and annotate while I do so and I already know I'll be annotating the rest of the series.. I will hopefully won't be buying any more books this month, lol.

Ngl, I agree only reading books off my physical TBR can be a bit draining for me too. I'm a mood reader and sometimes nothing on my shelf looks appealing when I'm deciding my next read.

Fantastic goals Josephine!! I hope you're enjoying your Hunger Games reread and that your move is going okay!

Awesome Laura! I think starting with achievable goals for where you're at in your life is the best thing.

I feel that draining feeling! Definitely encourage you to take breaks and read some library books in the inbetween to spice things up a bit

Awwh that's okay Laura! I think having a goal to buy "intentionally" is a good way to go about it. I make exceptions for my birthday and Christmas but I think I'm going to give myself a 5-book limit for each until I get this tbr under control haha.

Mood readers unite!! Hahaha honestly I would have been able to read double the amount from TBR last year if I ONLY read from my shelves, but sometimes the mood really isn't there.
I've been watching lots of people making it exciting for themselves by doing TBR jars or random number generators which I might try in future. But I'm first focusing on trying to finish series I'm in the middle of or especially ones where I just have ONE book left to finish lol, that way it narrows down the choices a bit more (I find when I have too many options I don't know what to read)
Also reading a variety of genres at once helps me from getting bored lol.

I thought this month we can share our TBR Zero goals and update here how we're doing with them :D
My April goals include:
1. Organising my bookshelves and sharing a video about it
2. Finishing some series I'm in the middle of
3. Organising my reading spreadsheet!!
4. Getting up to date with TBR Zero sharing on Socials
The last half of April I'll have school holidays (I'm a teacher) so hopefully I'll some time to get organised hehe. I think I do better when I am organised and have a monthly routine and set TBRs every month and update my spreadsheets, so I need to get back into that routine after moving houses.
