Jason Oliver | 3048 comments If the members of PBT wrote a book together, what genre would it be? Where would it take place? Would the protagonist be male or female? What would be the voice (first person, third person, omnipresent)?

Give any other relevant details you think would be important to mention.

It was a dark and stormy night ...

After all, this is April , the month of fun and of pranks

Karin | 9233 comments I love this question. The answer is, "I don't know" because our tastes vary so widely. I would think we'd end up with something full of shorter pieces that would include various genres and/or crossovers, nonfiction. We'd have a sampling of first, third and omnipresent voices.

message 4: by Theresa (new)

Theresa | 15568 comments Not sure we could do one, or even a series because there would not be an agreement on genre to start with.

However, I can promise that if someone started off an idea, I'd contribute to it, no problem.

Which just gave me an idea - it might have to be one of those 'own adventure' books, where depending on decision you the reader make during reading it, you follow a different denouement to an ending than someone else might. I read one that was a hoot - it had classic ending representing different genres: bodice ripper romance, murder mystery, gothic horror, etc. I found it a lot of fun and quite amusing - others who read and reviewed it did not.

Holly R W | 3122 comments The book would be a memoir, (ongoing, of course). It would include a history of P.B.T., starting with an explanation of its title and the unique concept behind it. In the book could be:

*Mini-profiles of Anita, our founder, and other admins through the years. What P.B.T. has meant to them.

*Similarly, profiles of actively involved members and their thoughts.

*Our diversity of: tastes in books, geography, backgrounds, etc. (We seem top-heavy with women and age)

*Friendships formed through books - both virtual and in-person. Theresa's Kaffeeklatch column.

*Our COVID years and the decision to Zoom.

*Favorite books and Polarizing books with members' comments about them.

*P.B.T. Humor.

Joanne (joabroda1) | 12589 comments It would be a Mash-up of all the genres!

I must contemplate a name for this new genre of ours.

Sounds interesting. Do you remember the name of the book?

Amy | 12932 comments I know exactly what this book would be. First there would be dragons, then a train, then a racecourse.... Haven't we been writing this one already with various characters that continue? Gnarly, CGI Tom, and the Cabana Boys? Joy's Magic Hermione Trunk? The mounts? You think there is a PBT being written and Sparkle isn't in it? Harrumph, she would be so annoyed! I mean Ennoaj's Barn has been legendary!!! And the relationships between, us, them, us and our mounts! Didn't a few mounts quit on their riders? I mean the thing writes (I mean wrote) itself! However, the book is still being written. Jason, you are back and your entry has to have narrative character development. And new people are joining us. This quirky novel has to have development to include the new.. Tessa and Theresa's Road Trip? Yeah, this book has been half written already...

Not really. The genre is called 'interactive'. I saw a reference to that genre recently but of course did not read the article.

The Hate vs. Love debate on Wolf Hall would need its own chapter.

Amy! you are right.

message 14: by Jgrace (new)

Jgrace | 3945 comments What a wonderful question, Jason! I love all of these ideas.

But I like Holly's memoir proposal best. I'd be happy to contribute to a chapter called ' How it all began: the Shelfari years." The book would also need an extensive index of every title on the PBT bookshelf. That would probably spawn another book called,
PBT Titles to Read Before You Die.

Agreed! I loathed that book so much I couldn't finish it even while others love it.

message 17: by Robin P (new)

Robin P | 5762 comments I loved and loathed Wolf Hall. I appreciated the way she didn't overexplain, but it was a slog and she kept saying "he" referring to different characters without making clear who "he" was that time.

Bring Up the Bodies was much better. It took place over a short time, was mostly straightforward and her editor apparently made her change her style, because she wrote, "he, Thomas" or whatever.

I bought the 3rd volume several years ago and haven't steeled myself to read it yet.

message 18: by Joy D (new)

Joy D | 10114 comments I loved all three of the Wolf Hall Series, as you all know, so I won't revisit the argument discussion. :-)

I can say that if you enjoy audiobooks, that is the way to go with this series. Ben Miles does a fabulous job!

I've read a few "choose your own adventure" books. Mostly apocalypse based......see if reading all the other ones means I can now make choices which don't get me killed. Some are really good fun, some are insane and some you die with every possible option, so they seem a bit pointless. I happen to have Can You Survive the Zombie Apocalypse? on my physical TBR pile so perhaps this is the month to read it?
