The novel explores the tension between personal identity and religious doctrine. How does Riley navigate her bisexuality within the context of a conservative church environment? What commentary does the book offer on inclusivity within religious institutions?

Adamari Alvarado (adamari2001) | 2 comments Honestly, as a Catholic (who goes to church every Sunday), I thought it was going to be another of those preachy "Church bad! Christians are literally the devil!" kind of story. I rolled my eyes on the synopsis. But it was quiet fun.

Riley does go through the normal teenage process of self discovery. Is definitely a rough time for kids their age, I had depression 🫥. But yeah, her being part of a Baptist church didn't make it better. Between you and I, Baptist are the least forgiven and most extremist. So I definitely understand. Also, questioning yourself and what you've grown with is all a part of growing and shows good critical thinking. I am happy her parents support her. I just hope this experience doesn't tarnish her faith forever, God will always lover her anyways no matter what! He made her that way for a reason and in His eyes, she is perfect!

I liked the commentary, gathering strength and criticized those in power. When you see an authority figure doing something wrong, say something. I don't have pastors, Catholics do priests. We have to remember they are NOT God, they are HUMAN, and humans make mistakes, we are not perfect. A priest, or in this case a pastor's job is preaching the word. He should never publicly condemn someone from the congregation, what he did is considered wrong among Catholics and I hope other denominations as well. When you see a religious leader abusing their power that way, report them. THEY CAN'T DO THAT. They are literally not allowed to do that. Sadly, it happens...

Overall, I am sorry to anyone who may have a had a bad relationship with the church. I just hope you remember, no matter what you are going through, the Lord loves you. You are PERFECT in His eyes. ❤️

(Sorry, I wrote so much. Just finished the book!)

This is suspenseful YA Christian fiction, involving a modern-day treasure hunt in Scotland, with a bit of supernatural thrown in. Blending historical fact and Scottish legend within an action-packed adventure, Treasures of the Lochs is a powerful story of faith, friendship, and redemption. The target audience is teenage and above (some parts would be too intense for younger readers). This book is a 2024 NIEA Finalist in Religion Fiction. It also hit Amazon#1 New Release for Christian Fantasy. I hope you’ll check it out.
