what are some sad book recs that will break my heart in the best way possible?

if he had been with me is a great one! one of my favourite books. another would be the bot series! i really recommend even though i’m not finished the series 😭

i bawled in 7 summers by paige toon. it was so good

for me the one that made me cry the most lately was Tomorrow, and Tomorrow, and Tomorrow by Gabrielle Zevin!! and all time favorite sad book is The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo and honestly everything by TJR but this one is just the saddest

the song of achilles is sad too but it‘s also really beautifully written <3 i cry at the ending every time

Heartless by Merissa Meyer is sad

Also Doctor Strange: Nightmare is sad

Sunrise on the Reaping had me in tears for DAYS! It's so sad....BUT you have to read The Hunger Games first for it to make sense. Those are kinda sad but not as bad as Sunrise on the Reaping.

do yall know any book recs that dont have any romance in them? its so hard to find a sad book without romance in it. i know everyone loves romance but its hard to read. especially when you going through a breakup. so is there any sad book recs with no romance in them?

Sunrise on the reaping has the tiniest bit of romance but the characters barely have any time together, it’s mainly just memories of them together and one scene when they see eachother (but there’s no happy ending) and it’s literally the saddest thing ever 😭 and it doesn’t revolve around romance at all

thank you! i am just getting into the hunger games series but i sadly got the first one spoiled because its "general knowledge" that she won. it made me so sad that i got the ending spoiled but thanks for your rec!
