Heather | 165 comments Has anyone had a chance to start Zo? I'm at about 30%. Nonfiction is sooooo not my genre and I'm discovering that I need to take quite a few breaks and read fiction in between.

It's well researched and well written, and I really enjoyed the chase scene on the train, but the rest feels a bit like a textbook. However I know that's just me...

Teddie (teddieg) | 1043 comments I've started but haven't had a chance to listen more - I'm planning to get some done tonight. I say we can take as much time as we want and spread it over the next weekish - so take breaks!

I'll post more in the morning :)

Heather | 165 comments I apologize but I'm going to give up at 44%. It feels like such a slog to read it. And I know it's a me problem - I'm not a fan of nonfiction or novels about war so it's a bad combination. Even though it's a relatively short book, the audio version is almost 14 hours. I have over 7 hours ahead of me, and just don't want to continue. Sorry! 🤷‍♀️

Teddie (teddieg) | 1043 comments No worries Heather - thanks for trying :)

I would NEVER want you to read something you're not enjoying.

Heather | 165 comments I appreciate that! <3

And I suspect my current string of migraines is another contributing factor...

Teddie (teddieg) | 1043 comments Watching everything happening in my country right now (US), I wonder how I should fight back against the insidious surge of fascism. I live in a blue state, so sometimes protesting feels a bit like preaching to the choir. It isn't tanks or an invasive force that is shutting things down - it is the inexorable weight of greed and small people scared of what they think of as "other." My personality takes a more chaotic good approach to disrupting things, but I think I battle against the feeling "Does it really matter?" as much as anything. Learning about Elzbieta Zawacka and seeing her choices and bravery - it does help me scrape up a little grit to not give up, and to resist and not submit. It is so easy these days to just curl up and hope the storm passes without doing much damage. But again, if everyone does that, the storm will rip everything up. Even small actions matter.

Heather | 165 comments I've been thinking about lot about the WWII resistance lately in regards to our current situation. I can probably only manage small actions but I NEED to do whatever I can. And be as brave as possible.

Teddie (teddieg) | 1043 comments I feel the same :)

something > nothing.

bamaace83 | 1455 comments I made it through but oof. I gave it a 2 star because I finished it but I almost chucked it. I'm just not a fan of non-fiction and this one was hard to read for me. It also made me think of current state of affairs. I'm in a similar situation as Teddie and it just makes me feel for today's world. It's like what little things can I do to try to make it through the situations we are in. It might be just advocating for vaccines and health insurance or being as simple as being nice to someone who has different views than I do. I just hope we don't end up in a WWIII situation.
