Stranded discussion

A forest covering the south side of the island, the trees grow hundreds of feet into the air with sporadic branches al the way up.

017 walked up to the forest. it was tall, mighty, almost like redwoods. but the wood was not red. he looked around, to see if there were any animals. he saw none. weird. usually nature has tons of animals. maybe the crash was recent, and it scared them off? i don't have enough data. he put a hand on a tree, to see if it was like earth trees.

The forest seems to quake as a form emerges from the tree he places a hand upon. It turns to him, before trying multiple ways of communicating, starting with light patterns, switching to pheromones, before finally trying verbal communication. “You are the second being like yourself to come here. Why?” The form does not resemble anything even remotely animal in shape, mostly looking like a slender blob of bark and wood.

017 stumbles back in shock, then regains his footing and says, "I-I was just going to gather data on the trees, s-see if they were from earth, if we were on earth, i'm sorry gaea, druid, cultivation, whoever you are, don't kill me." he thinks it's some character from mythology, and he's hallucinating from some sort of chemical in the air.

“I will only harm you if you seek to harm me or my brethren. And you were not too far off by calling us druids, for we are the, how would you say it… ah yes, for we are the Náttúruandi.” The blob makes a gesture which can only be interpreted as a bow, but it look like it is splitting in half when doing so.

I calm a bit, then scold myself for mentioning one of the names of a nature goddess in a fantasy book. stupid, this isn't fiction. i say nervously, adjusting my glasses, "Náttúruandi. icelandic for nature spirit. i know almost every language, sorry for nerding out. wait a minute, if that's your name, the first human to come here must have been scandinavian and called you that."

“No, that is just the language that gives a close sounding word for our languages’s name for us.” It steps back, an arch having formed behind it while the two were talking. But a wild thought runs through #017’s head, that you should never walk through a natural archway in an unknown or fey forest.

I see the archway and say, "fascinating. i will try to learn as much as possible about you and your forest, while not harming you in the process. if i do end up harming you, let me know, because i do not intend it. i'm also willing to be a sort of intermediary between the forest and humans."

“The forest will accept you and accompany you.” The blob seeps back into the tree and a branch falls before you, one carrying a sigil of the forest so those who you interact with will know who you represent. It is the perfect height to be used as a staff or walking stick, though it seems to shift with every second passing to become what you need most at the current time.

I grab it and say, "cool..." then i say just generally to the forest, "thank you! it's really cool!" i then walk back towards the ship to show off my new tool and role.
