I really like this book by Robert Fulghum. It's a non-fiction collection of stories with a funny and hopeful tone. I've read it several times over the years, and it doesn't get old :)

If you're looking for short, standalone literary fiction with great writing, I highly recommend:
Red at the Bone by Jacqueline Woodson (196p) – A beautifully layered, multigenerational story told with lyrical precision.
Swimming in the Dark by Tomasz Jedrowski (191p) – A tender, moving coming-of-age and love story set in Communist Poland — gorgeously written.
Also worth mentioning:
The Eight Mountains by Paolo Cognetti (225p) – It's more descriptive, but in a stunning way — the mountain scenery comes alive, and the story is quiet but deeply touching.
For something short and quirky:
Convenience Store Woman by Sayaka Murata – A unique voice, darkly funny, and unlike anything else.
Prefer short stories?
Evidence of the Affair by Taylor Jenkins Reid – A compelling epistolary story.
Mr Salary by Sally Rooney – Brief, sharp, and emotionally resonant.
If you're okay with creeping just past 200 pages (to around 300), and want something fun and fast-paced:
Try a romcom like anything by Emily Henry or You Deserve Each Other by Sarah Hogle – both are great choices for escapist, feel-good reads.
If you're up for a slightly longer read and enjoy psychological drama, A Ladder to the Sky by John Boyne is a gripping choice. At around 358 pages, it’s a sharp, addictive novel about an ambitious writer who’ll do anything — and betray anyone — to succeed. A dark, twisty look at the literary world.
