Julia | 34 comments preferably fantasy or any subgenre of fiction where the mc (female or male, especially male but idc) is like ACTUALLY traumatized, not just "oh no this bad thing happened to me that's going to make me depressed for a few chapters," I'm talking actual trauma that has an effect on their personality and relationships. I CRAVE trauma recovery and found family type stories. any recs?

Keziah | 10 comments Ninth House by Leigh Bardugo could be good for what you're after. Dark academia fantasy, easy 5 stars for me - the audiobook is fantastic!
The fmc has a pretty messed up background that definitely impacts her personality and how she approaches situations. There's a found family vibe with her and the supporting fc, with more found family elements by the second book in the series.
I'd definitely look up the content warnings though as there are A LOT of them.

Emma | 6 comments its not fantasy, but I feel like every single character in the legacy of gods series is seriously traumatized. like next level. overall book three and four, cause their entire lives have been altered by these events.

also, bloodguard by cecy Robson, its a great book and a lot happens throughout it, which definitely traumatized me. :)

Mary Dee | 5 comments Bones by KL Speer, poor Bones (her nick name and you don't find out her name until book 2) is completely so traumatized and continues to have to endure some horribly tragic stuff. Poor baby girl. I cried SO hard at that book. I love it though. Entirely found family and personal growth. Ahhh I gotta reread again.
