Julia | 9 comments I prefer fantasy or any subgenre of fiction where the mc (female or male, especially male but I like both) is like ACTUALLY traumatized, not just "oh no this bad thing happened to me that's going to make me depressed for a few chapters," I'm talking actual trauma, either that happened pre-story or during, that has an effect on their personality and relationships. I CRAVE trauma recovery and found family type stories. any recs?

Wil | 29 comments I would 100% recommend the Night Angel Trilogy by Brent Weeks!!!

The main character, his love interest, his mentor, pretty much everyone in this series to be honest has got some pretty heavy duty trauma (but seriously the MC has definitely been through some pretty heavy duty stuff)

It's difficult to give a synopsis without some spoilers so I'm just gonna copy the synopsis of the first book (the Way of Shadows) from Goodreads (idk how to leave a link to it sorry :(

"For Durzo Blint, assassination is an art-and he is the city's most accomplished artist.

For Azoth, survival is precarious. Something you never take for granted. As a guild rat, he's grown up in the slums, and learned to judge people quickly - and to take risks. Risks like apprenticing himself to Durzo Blint.

But to be accepted, Azoth must turn his back on his old life and embrace a new identity and name. As Kylar Stern, he must learn to navigate the assassins' world of dangerous politics and strange magics - and cultivate a flair for death."

It is technically classified as an epic fantasy, but I wouldn't go as far as to say it's as in depth/context driven as high fantasies like Tolkien and Sanderson :)

I really hope you read it!! it's been one of my favorites for ages and nobody talks about it enough!!
