Emily Weedon | 4 comments Remember that thing, are you team pirate or team ninja? I'm fascinated by who gets drawn to various horror subgenres. Its always been a toss up between certain ghosts and vampires for me, while others will always choose werewolves or zombies. People have discussed elsewhere on this group why zombies proliferate in film and less in books. I've always been a bit turned off by shambling zombies and prefer the sophistication of vampires. But I get a little tired of some of the romanticization of vampires and lean slick over velvety or frilly. And within vampire subgenres, I prefer one that still looks like people as opposed to, say, the original Nosferatu.

I suspect that the horror one leans to says a lot about worldview and even self perception. As a bookish kid, I think I liked vampires because they seemed cultured. They used their words as often as they used their powers.

So are you team vampire? Or zombie? Or ghost? Or fill-in-the-blank? And what do you figure it might say about you?

Justin (justinbienvenue) | 3047 comments I like all of the ones you mentioned but I'd perhaps lean toward pirates and zombies... for now.

Good questions.
Don't know if I have a favorite horror critter, mostly I want a good story with something unexpected thrown in.
Vampires? At least you're safe during the daylight hours with a chance to kill it.
Werewolves? You're safe as long as it's not a full moon.
Zombies? They don't care what time of day it is or what phase of the moon, so you're never safe. Same with ghosts.

Marie | 4029 comments I don't really have favorites on creatures as I will read anything horror that includes them as I have read them all. lol I am like Wendy - as long as the story is good then it doesn't matter to me what creatures exist in the story. :)
